Response: The stencil looking washi sized pattern is a handcarved stamp made from an awkwardly sized scrap from another project (: I'm glad it caught your eye!

Comment: Citrus! Our grocery store had a citrus tasting last fall. I had no idea there were so many varieties of oranges! I'd thought that blood orange was my favorite, but discovered I like Cara Cara more. (The Fremont Troll can't have any; she'll have to settle for an orange car) PS Sorry for the late rate, it's not enough to save ratings if one doesn't fill in the "I got my stuff..." button.

Comment: So glad you enjoyed all the sushi! Honestly, I've never tried it. All the places I've been at that offer it have seemed a little sketchy to me. Someday I'll end up in a reputable restaurant and give it a try.
Response: You know, I totally take seafood for granted since I've always lived in places with *tons* of seafood (especially Seattle!) it seems impossible to not try sushi. I think it's the texture that throws most people off, I'd say try salmon first when you get around to it, it's the nicest texture!

Comment: Well Met, I've prided myself on finally accurately reading your writing on the back of the card, and it really wasn't all that difficult once I saw a pattern to your letter formation. But nowhere did you mention anything about the space that has the blue skirt, legs and shoes of a woman, the space under the tiny envelopes, above the cupcakes, to the right of the octopus, and to the left of a bird. I love that you made your own version of a phrenology chart by painting a self portrait profile and putting your interests all over what appears to be a swimming cap with your hair escaping from under the front of it. You are a creativity inspiration to all of us!
Response: heh, I am glad you were able to see the pattern in my penmanship. The mystery square would be a detail of a painting I did a while back, I put it in because my biggest passion in art has always been human portraiture, especially women. That was my big love when I did photography as well. Over all, it just did not feel like a self portrait without at least a little of my hair sneaking in (: thank you for the kind rating

Response: I'm so glad the stamps were a hit, I had so much fun making all of them. Having pretty birds around isn't all it is cracked up to be, we also have a flock of annoying little alarm impersonators that hang out in the big tree out front and scream at one am. I might prefer crows over that nonsense...

Comment: I love the postcard! Heyha riding into battle to kill the Winter God. I'm all for killing the winter right now. Bring on the Spring! . . . My daughter, who is a pescatarian, said that your drawing of miso soup looked just like it. I guess she must have had some somewhere else because she never had any while she has been here (most all her 27 years of life!). The asemic writing looks suitably asemic. The heart of the assignment is the three wishes. Yours are well defined and basic, which doesn't mean you are easy to please or unimaginative, but means you are focused and tuned in to your self.
Response: Thank you for taking the time to type out such a nice rating. I have been trying especially hard lately to use fewer negative words (particularly when talking about myself) it's amazing how easily they sneak in. I much prefer focused and tuned into myself as descriptors. As for the card itself, I picked it very nearly at random and did not even see that was the story behind the art on the front. What a happy accident. (:

Comment: These zines are great! Love the dragon one best, for the watercolor lines and the cool creatures- they are all friendly! The spider woman is cool too, that second one is wow! I find your words ring true, specially as a mom with growing up kids, feeling out some truths. Any way, I think these were a success and now you may go back to your words! And thanks, Met.
Response: Thanks so much (: I like the friendly dragon dudes too, they have often been my go to decoration for correspondence, I don't know why I use them more often. As for the spiderwoman, I find the more I share those thoughts and words with other people the more I hear everyone saying they feel the same but didn't like to say anything. Which I suppose is what makes art and writing so important! Thanks again for the inspiration to break out a little.

Response: The planet one is gouache! Probably my favorite paint besides oil but definitely a very weird texture if you aren't used to it.

Response: Man, the shiny green envelopes are so nostalgic for me. When I first got into mail stuff I lived by this bulk stationery store that specialized in fancy invitations. I got a giant ass boxes of big shiny green, medium shiny copper and small shiny gold envelopes. I felt so cool, that was like, my calling card.

Comment: The Little Old Lady is one of several books on my coffee table right now! It was my Mom's very favorite too! The Jolly Postman was one of the very first "interactive" books for children! Thank you for sharing your childhood favorites! xo
Response: If you haven't already you should check out the book Griffin and Sabine. It is aimed at adults but is similar to the Jolly Postman in terms of having letters to pull out (and the artwork is fantastic) probably my favorite interactive book for adults I have come across.

Comment: Okay, so this had to be one of the funniest swaps that I have received! I got the card, of course, I looked at the front of it, nothing (& I mean: NOTHING AT ALL... Then I was reading it (all the while thinking: wow, I really misinterpreted this swap- I was supposed to just send what I needed to use, don't I feel like an idiot!). Only to find that you DID do something with it HA! It is still light outside, so I haven't checked to see if I do, indeed have something glowing awaiting me... You really are a trip, Met... *giggling* Whether I do or not- this was incredibly creative and certainly unique! Lotsa hearts!
Response: You can see now why I have hardly used that dumb giant bottle of glow in the dark paint! You really have to explain it every time you use it. Imagining your confusion at the seemingly blank postcard is cracking me up, I hope the glow still works when it is dark enough. Glad I could put something odd in your day.

Response: Right? This last year has been awful! It used to take 14 days tops for a letter to get anywhere in the world, now it takes up to 14 days for a postcard to go one state over. It's awful.

The Heavy Metal ATC is so cool (I should probably actually watch the movie; it's one of those faint, in-the-background memories I have from my kiddie days) and sassy tea party Mr. T is amazing, THANK YOU! I didn't realize the tape transfer one was all enclosed in tape. I make ATCs like that too! Packing tape collages. It's fun smacking layers down. Anyway, envelope numero dos was full of treasures too! The You Mad guy sticker made me cackle and that paper with all the hep ladies on it is SWEET. Grumpy's Fleabag Flea Market will likely get framed AND of course you had some vintage FL postcards (I've been to both those places countless times) and and and, guh...both envelopes were gems, flat out. Response: I had never heard of the teeth falling out one either! But that whole class was a little surreal. Comment: Thanks for the ATCs you made! I think my favorite is the essentially one but I like the watercolors of the pepper one. I agree- sometimes it really can be hard to part from some ATCs in your collection! Also, I love the beardy in your return address labels!

Comment: Oh my goodness you deserve 10,000 stars for this wonderful zine. I totally get why you wanted feedback because I can tell how much work and emotion you put into this zine. While I do not have red hair, I could relate on several levels. It also made me think about those I know with red hair..how it has come to define them in some ways when that isn't fair. I love how this zine read as poetry. I really loved the conclusion. And I thank you for trusting me with this sensitive part of your life.

Comment: I love the pages you did! Hearing about your dragon reminds me how much I used to love pet sitting Kai's teachers leopard gecko. I would love to have one of my own but I'm too nervous that he'd be a fancy, moving cat/dog treat in my house. My girls went crazy over the hair goodies- thank you! I have a hard time getting them to let me brush it most days so hopefully pretty stuff to put in it will make that easier! Love the envelopes and pennies as well- I miss when my mail box used to be full of letters in hand made envelopes! Most of my penpals disappeared after awhile.
Response: Oh I understand the fear, I'm still a little nervous about introducing her to other pets (not ours) I know full size she'll be a force to reckon with, but even though she's pretty fat now (and horrible spiky when mad) I'm super protective. Glad they loved the hair stuff, I've never met a little girl who didn't love hair stuff (: whew, better save some writing for round 3 ;)

Comment: It's quite possible we are twins separated at birth! I love the religious sticker flakes, that's exactly the kind of stuff I love! And the stationary is just fab! I'm going to have to get some. Crazy stalker duck. One of the things on the scale Dar page is vet for Gerald, love it lol. The Valentine's are so fabulously 90s! The ATC is really cool!! I just love everything so much! Thank you, thank you! We have such similar senses of humor and taste, definitely long lost sisters.

It takes a little practice (of techniques, it's the only one I have ripped pages on) but I was able to teach myself over a few days with instructions from a book. I can wrap his graduation present in it. But it's staying in his car. I'm not allowing it in to spread its insidious glitter in my house! >8-)
