I did a penpal swap where you had to come up with 25 questions for your partner. I spent a good deal of time on the letter I wrote, trying to think of questions that would spark conversation rather than just elicit a yes or no. The woman I sent it to never responded (she did rate though) The letter I received from person who was supposed to send to me, I answered promptly and I never heard from her again. What perplexes me about this is if you aren't looking for a penpal, why sign up for the trade? I'm afraid that turned me off to penpal trades. |

I hate when you get a letter from a penpal and the whole thing is just a monologue of her life!!! No questions!! And no reference to your letter. Just literally a monologue. Sometimes you get people who will send you a typed letter like that and it's a sure sign they have either too many penpals or or are just a penpal collector. Its one of the reason's we won't be friends anymore and it makes it so hard to write back. Grrrrrrrrrrr!! |

Im right with you Louise, ive had a penpal in the passed who typed a letter, i replyed and i got the exact same letter she sent befor, she must have written a letter and just sent it out like a news letter...i did reply asing why she did this and never heard back from....hehe I also hate it when people write a letter which is more like a diary entry, which of course makes it soooo hard to reply to. Ok, so I'm in the mood to rant today mostly because it's raining. Well, also because I was sitting down and thinking about some of the interesting experiences I've had over the years with penpals and swappers. With that in mind, I decided to see what kind of lists people can come up with for their penpal and swapping pet peeves. Also, feel free to add a story or two about some of your penpal/swapping experiences. Make a game out of it, see who has the weirdest/scariest story, the funniest, the saddest, the most heartwarming, etc. There aren't any prizes but I thought it would be fun. Here are a couple of my penpal pet peeves.
1.) Writing an awesome intro letter but not including any way for me to get in contact with you. Always, always, always include a return address either on the envelope or in the letter. Or, even add an e-mail address.
2.) Even if you don't want to be penpls, please be courteous enough to drop me a note saying you don't think it would work out. Mostly, I do this to make sure my letter at least go there in one piece and didn't get lost in the mail.
Who's next?
