I love the new layout! Especially the watchlist on the dashboard is an great feature ! I do have a small question concerning the profile page though : apparently the bulleted lists aren't showing as they used to, i.e. with bullets. Has something changed in the mark-up language as well because when I look at the edit page, the dash is still there, it just doesn't show? Otherwise : great job ! :o) |

Looking good. I like seeing the number of people signed up for the swaps I am in on the dashboard. |

When I click through from one of my group pages to the group's forum, the forum page is just a blank white page. Argh! |

I cannot access my groups either. :( Question: Does everything look really tiny to everyone else, or is it something with my own computer? I have Mozilla Firefox and all of my messages, profile stuff... everything is SUPER tiny text and some of it is all jumbled up and hard to read. |

Formatting is missing on every page. No bullets, bold, borderlines. Text is very small and very squished. I am using Safari on Mac OS (Tiger). Same look on Firefox (I don't have the very recent upgrade on that quite yet). I think I understand what it all is supposed to look like, just not translating well to my browsers. |

Yeah... same here! Everything is tiny and squished and I am getting a MAJOR headache trying to read it. Also, on the page that lists the groups, my groups links run right into the links on the side for swap-bot, etc. |

Okay, so I dug out an old computer (still a Mac), with an old version of Internet Explorer, and I see all the lovely changes. So, the problems seem to be related to Safari and Firefox browsers on Macs. The airmail mascot is kawaii, though he doesn't seem to like Safari and Firefox. Doesn't show there. |

Has anyone else lost all of their rating responses? |

Okay, I just opened our old version of IE, and I can see everything as it is supposed to be and it looks WONDERFUL! Also, I can see my rating responses there. The problem is, our main browser is Firefox. Anyone who has Firefox, Safari, and possibly other browsers will have a really hard time navigating. I wonder why it looks different on different browsers? And also, is there a way to make it so that ALL browser types can benefit from the changes? |

Mel, is your avatar just a black square on your computer? It is on mine (PC-IE)... |

I'm on Firefox and everything seems fine, the text on the left handside is a bit small but I just increased the text size. I love the changes btw. |

Yes, our prifiles have suffered a bit in the changeover. I am sure R&T will get that worked out soon. Overall, I am very pleased with the changes - thx R&T! |

Doing more investigating and my boyfriend's Safari browser on Mac OSX (Leopard) shows the site beautiful. Seems odd that it could be related to the different versions of the same OS. Tiger (my version) is the version below Leopard. We both have the same version of Safari though. |

Terry ~ Yes, at the moment it is just a black box until I decide what to use. ;oP George ~ Hmmm... I am not sure what version our IE is... LOL! But on our Firefox, it looks hideous, and on our IE it looks awesome! Go figure! |

I love it! I think the changes are wonderful. I'm sure the little bugs will get fixed soon. The formatting on mine was messed up but I just hit the refresh button and it looks wonderful! I use firefox. You could also try clearing your cache |

This has really, really slowed down the site for me. Also, all of my profile info is stacked up rather than a nice page lay out. I was trying to delete the oversized pics in my comments, but there are just so many and it is tedious work. Oh well, great way to get me off the site and in my craft room!! |
Swap-bot looks different - what's going on?
In order to improve the speed of Swap-bot we had to switch to a better web hosting service. We made the full switch to the new server on Saturday night. This switch required some slight infrastructure changes which led to a few more changes that we think are an improvement. Following is a list of the site changes:
Faster service - Swap-bot should now load much faster and we hope to never have periods of extremely slow service like previously experienced. Sweet!
Layout changes - In order to pay for the new hosting service we have to publish more and better ads. The new layout includes a standardized center column that allows us to show display ads in the right column. The new size of the center column is smaller for the Find Swaps and Dashboard (previously My Swaps) pages, but larger for the profile pages. This change may affect your profile layout. You may have to adjust how images flow on your profile. We are sorry for that inconvenience. Also, the profile pages are loading weird in Internet Explorer if you have large graphics in your comments section. We are trying to find a solution. The other major layout change is that the large left sidebar links have been moved to the top right of all main Swap-bot pages. There are additional links to many main site pages, including the Terms of Use and FAQ, in the new footer at the bottom of all pages. Also, the yellow options box on each swap page has been moved into the right hand column. (You probably also noticed our new, cute airmail mascot in the upper left corner. Yippee!) If you are having trouble reading the site or things are running together, you probably just need to refresh the pages a few times.
Dashboard = My Swaps - We have changed the name of the My Swaps page to "Dashboard." Eventually the Dashboard section will contain more info (groups, friends, updates, etc), but for now it simply contains all of your swap lists: Current Swaps, Sent Swaps (Previous Swaps), Archived Swaps, and the new Watchlist. The swap lists also look slightly different. The number of total swappers is now located in the top left corner and the beginning of the swap description is no longer shown. Also, all group swaps and private swaps now have that designation automatically added to the title.
Watched Swaps - Due to popular demand (and because it is a great idea) you can now watch swaps. Under the sign up link for each swap there is now a link to watch the swap instead. By clicking the watch link the swap will show up under your Watchlist on your Dashboard. You will not be officially signed up for the swap, but you will be better able to keep track of those swaps you are thinking about joining. You can receive email alerts about your watched swaps (sent one week and two days before the sign up deadline) by going to "Preference" under the profile "Edit" screen and checking the last email preference box. The default is that you do NOT receive email notifications for watched swaps. Also, you will not be automatically signed up for your watched swaps. You must log in and click on the sign up link for your watched swaps in order to be officially signed up. Watched swaps are removed from your Watchlist once you sign up or once the sign up deadline passes.
Twitter - Swap-bot's Twitter works again! If you are a member of Twitter you can sign up to Follow Swap-bot here. You will then get a tweet every time a new swap is created.
These new changes - especially to the layout - will take a little getting used to, but we think it will be worth it. All of the same site content is still here, there just might be a slightly different way to get to it. We realize there is still a lot to do and we promise to keep improving everything as quickly as we can. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to answer them all in this thread. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Happy swapping,
Rachel
