I think that there are both good and bad things about buying the food online at Etsy. I ordered a cupcake and it was good but after shipping and everything, I ended up paying $16 for one cupcake! I would do it again if it weren't so expensive! Plus due to the fact that it is summer, they have to expedite the shipping based on the what you order, so it is even more expensive! But there are some good things out there! I guess that it is just up to you and how much you want to pay! Let me know if you do decide to order something! |

I've ordered a few sweets on etsy and have been very pleased overall. I like to read the seller's feedback to see how other people liked their food and make sure they have a good rating. :) bon apetite! |

Thank you all for posting about Etsy foods. Up to now I didn't realize food items were sold. I have now found some interesting cupcakes and oh yeah, homemade jam! So thank you again for posting this dialog. |

My SIL sends my me and DH a Mrs. Beasley's Lemon Bundt Cake every Christmas, because she knows he loves Lemon Cake. I think it's around $40-$45 with shipping, and it's kinda dried out by the time it arrives, even though it's packed in a tin. And it's a small Bundt Cake - not a mini, but not as big as a full-size Bundt. I want him to tell his sister that we really appreciate the thought, but that the cake is dried out by the time we receive it. It kills me to know that she sends these cakes to several people on her Christmas List every year, is paying that kind of $$, and they're not even fresh tasting! But he doesn't want to hurt her feelings or embarrass her. And he's waited so many years now that he can't tell her, because she'd say "Why the heck didn't you tell me this 5 years ago?" She sends them to family, friends, clients, etc. I think some people probably throw them away! :o( Yep, I just checked the price on the cake. It's called the Miss Grace Lemon Cake on www.mrsbeasley.com, and it's $29.95 for the small size, which is what she gets us, and $9.95 for Standard Shipping. 3-Day Shipping is $14.95. The flavor is good, but it's just not fresh; I wouldn't recommend it. |

Oh wow! That is crazy! I know that my mom loves Chery & Co. cookies and they come individually packaged and they are good and moist, so no complaints there and they usually have FREE shipping on most items! |

So, how come people are allowed to sell food on Etsy? Aren't they supposed to follow the same guidelines as a caterer? I can't make food in my home and sell it. I have to have commercial kitchen. Anyone know why Etsy sellers don't? |

Those Chery & Co. Cookies sound great CL1986. Might have to give them a try. As far as Mrs. Beasleys and Miss Grace Lemon Cakes. I've never had a bad one. I get them often too as I work near a walk in location. Love their stuff. Especially there chewy caramel cookies. hooboy are those tasty. Oh and their almond shortbread cookies are also fabulous. CL1986 the Yummy Cupcakes location near me has overnight shipping of their baked goods, but I've not inquired as to how much the cost. I wonder though if it's as high as the shipping you paid for 1 cupcake. Whew! that's a stiff price. I saved a couple of shops to my etsy favorites to try in the future. I'll have to check again for shipping charges. |

That is great! Chappykat-let me know when you do try some and how much you end up paying for shipping because I'd love to buy from places where the shipping isn't too steep! |

chappykat: you said you work near a walk-in Mrs.Beasley's location. Do they bake on site there, or maybe bake close to the location and drive them to your location very quickly after baking? I'm thinking my SIL probably uses the Standard Shipping Option, and by then the cake is starting to dry out. We've never gotten one that is moist and soft - freshly baked tasting. I wonder what the difference is. |

Auntielle, maybe it would be less embarrassing to tell her "sometimes the cake has been dried"? :P |

@SweetTart77 said, "So, how come people are allowed to sell food on Etsy? Aren't they supposed to follow the same guidelines as a caterer? I can't make food in my home and sell it. I have to have commercial kitchen. Anyone know why Etsy sellers don't?" That's a good question, but I'm assuming people onm etsy also don't have to have business licences... I doubt I would order homemade food anyway (for the same reasons listed on the othre thread about homemade foods in swaps) but just out of curiosity, I'd also like to know that!;) |

I was wondering (for all of the etsy sellers) what is required to open a store? |

All food sellers have to be licensed by their county/state to be able to sell food on etsy. However, etsy doesn't check to make sure they do. |

And Mel - it's very easy to open a store. You just open one. You give them a credit card to keep on file to pay your bill with, and there you have it, a store. :) |

Jennyknitstoo is right, it's super easy! I just opened my store a few days ago. All it takes is a credit card and a little bit of time to type out shop policies and listings and whatnot. |

i bought some peppermint homemade marshmallows from etsy and i had alot of problems with the seller...first thing that happend is it had been like 2 weeks and i didn't recieve them..then after i contacted the seller, she said that she forgot to ship them!! then she sent them out and she added some free chocolate covered marshmallows and when i opened the box everything was just thrown in there and a mess and the peppermint marshmallows were hard and crusty and the chocolate was smashed all over inside... i was so upset with the whole experience i just threw everything away.... i never ever tried them..as they didn't even look edible or anything of the life... it was disappointing... it was all a big hassle for nothing and a loss of money. it really put a damper on the idea of buying anything else edible from etsy, as i have wanted to try more things, but after that whole thing... im not really interested anymore. |

I was looking at some etsy sellers and they have such wonderful pictures for their cupcakes and food. but i don't know how safe or how good they really are b/c the food is rather expensive compared to local food. I'm thinking of getting it as a gift for a friend.
Question has anyone boughten food on etsy and was it up to your expectations?
