liseylootas 08/31/2008

I'm with bastcrystal on this one - I'm also really glad there is lots of positive encouragement here. Could we make a "Gallery" thread? I know lots of people have links to flikr but it would be nice to have a thread where we can post regularly like this (not neccessarily for criticism but to just say "look what I did today")A scrapbooking site I use to go to (pre swapbot, which has taken over my online life!) had a members gallery where you can upload pics and veryone can comment on them - I found it a great place for inspiration when having crafty blocks! I've only just started making ATCs myself so I'm in no position to critique anyones work - but personally I think all the ATCs I've seen here are lovely and say something about the person who made them. ATCs are cool (I was a trading card collector as a kid so I like the idea of having "rare" limited edition cards for myself :o)) Which reminds me I have to go buy an album to put all these new cards I'm getting!

spinjenny 08/31/2008

ladyb, you think yours are not as good, but some of us might disagree. :-)

I 'cheated' and looked at your Flickr. Some of them are in a style that doesn't really appeal to me, but as far as I can judge they seem good examples of that style. I love the last two pictures (the blue ATCs and the untitled one).

CherryBlossom 08/31/2008

Darn I should have taken pictures of all the ones I've recently sent out. although mostly all are my own creations and hand drawn. That's how i do a lot of my ATCs.

spinjenny 08/31/2008

I scan (or if they are 'chunky', I photograph) all the ATCs I send out, as well as other handmade items, as I like to have a record of what I've made.

CherylLaVon 09/3/2008

I LOVE 1, 3, 4 and 6! I couldn't really see 5 but I bet it was cute too! I LOVE Halloween!

Hazelette 09/3/2008

OK... here's my latest ATC. It was for a Black & White Hand-drawn ATC swap. The other one is in pencil, and I don't have a photo of it.

I figured out how to do clickable links finally!

salfra 09/3/2008

Very nice! Simple but elegant...

spinjenny 09/4/2008

I like it - my kind of ATC!

Hazelette 09/4/2008

thank you... I'm debating about making it again, but with white ink on black paper (moonlit wheat.)

ellie1200 09/4/2008

I like it, na. And I like the idea of making a neg. version too.

Hazelette 09/4/2008

Hum, I may try it... I have these nifty white, opaque glaze pens. The only problem is that the ink in clear when wet. It takes about 30secs to "see" what it looks like. It's ok for writing, but I'm not sure about the drawing part.

I have a really horrible ATC that sits on my desk kinda as a reminder. I thought it would look good when I thought it up, but it so doesn't. I'll have to take a pic when mom's back from her weekend getaway (just to keep me humble!)

BastCrystal 09/4/2008

@na195097 that is a beautiful ATC I'm with Salfra on this, simple and elegant. I think the white on black would be nice also.

LaceD2sugarDoll 09/7/2008

ahh...I don't know how to upload the pic still X_X it's the newest one on my flickr.

Hazelette 09/7/2008

Correcting code for @LaceD2sugarDoll ATC to show up here.

@LaceD2sugarDoll Just take the spaces out between your ! and () and [].

I'm somewhere between crafter and professional artist... I'm going to an art school, but "professional artist" makes me sound like Bob Ross or something. ;] I know I'm new to SB but I've done ATC swaps on different sites before, and while I have gotten a few disappointing ones, I remind myself that receiving is only half the point of being here. I truly love everything I make and am so proud to know that someone else will have it.

My current style is hand drawn or painted, and is sometimes very minimalist. And personally, I prefer very minimalist cards. I think that some people feel that since ATCs are so small already, they need to be packed with content to make it seem as though you've done any work... when really, sometimes less really is more. @na195097 That card is absolutely what I'm talking about... very ideal and I would love to have it as part of my collection. :]

spinjenny 10/9/2008

eastling, I like your minimalist cards - my kind of card too. I also like LaceD2sugarDoll's card. :-)

pahasiga 10/9/2008

Is it possible to get in this thread or from anyone a negative feedback, too? Or just constructive critics.

I just wonder, because it seems to me that everyone is praising, so if I really wanted to know how to do better, it would be of no use to post here, right? ;)

spinjenny 10/9/2008

Right, pahasiga - most of us are too 'polite' to say publicly what we don't like, and it isn't helpful when people genuinely want constructive criticism rather than just reassurance that at least some people like them.

However, what sort of criticism would it be? When one person said "you need to add some glitter", another would say "oh no, don't do that, I like the simple elegance and glitter would ruin it!" One person would say "Lovely stickers well used" and another "Stickers! How awful!" Would that really help? I think what is really needed is criticism from someone who likes that particular style of ATCs, but it would still just be an opinion. Perhaps we should be trying to make them the way we like best, not trying to change them based on other people's preferences?

halfwaythere 10/9/2008

@na195097 - I love the hand drawn ATC, it's beautiful. :)

@LaceD2sugarDoll - I love the woman, she seems so free. The blue and orange are a bit hard for me to digest. I've been playing with those two colors together lately, and getting frustrated, so maybe that's why. I really like how you brought so many elements together. I was just looking thru Colin Johnson's college's last night; and you combine you mediums like he does; painting, drawing, college... maybe I'm just jealous :P

eastling 10/9/2008

@pahasiga I would love to "contructively criticize" your work if you'd like, negative feedback and all. Critiques were my favorite part of my classes... we learned how to say what was wrong with a work without being biased towards our particular style or trying to change the entire idea.

However I haven't said anything here because while I know some people do want criticism like that, other people might take it the wrong way... I feel like critiques should come with a "you asked for it" disclaimer, haha. :]

ukstash 10/9/2008

I would love some contructive critiques of my work. The newest stuff is on my flickr. I have only just started taking photos and they are not great. But if you want to comment I am willing to hear what you have to say.

Amandalee 10/9/2008

uk, I don't usually comment on threads like these, but I wanted to tell you I love your work! I LOVE your collaged handmade postcards - not only are they very pretty, they recycle! Best of both worlds!

Your first dotee is also just fab, you are doing great, keep up the good work!

eastling 10/9/2008

@ukstash I left a comment on one of your ATCs. Hope it helps! :]

ukstash 10/9/2008

Thanks for the helpful comments, I am always willing to learn....
