telizas 09/15/2008

This is my first time hosting a swap and its slow going. I thought it was a nifty idea, not terribly expensive, small amount of postage, little time or effort required, but so far, only one taker. I've posted links in my groups and outside Swap-Bot in those communities that might be interested as well. Please take a look and see if there's anything I'm missing, left out, something that may turn people off, etc. http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/21352

Thanks in advance!

(And how the heck do I put in a link??)

Just remove ^ this space between the bracket and the parenthese.

you're welcome!

Going to check it out now...

Ok checked it out, it's not for me as I have no use for it. You might want to consider raising the rating requirements, at least to 4.0 or higher. 3.5 is pretty low, any seasoned swapper with a 3.5 would be someone I wouldn't want to swap with, and a newbie with a 3.5 seems fishy to me as well. Other than that maybe people don't know how to do iron-on transfers or don't have the proper equipment?

Thanks choke! I finally tracked down a thread about the mark-up here. :)

Checked it out... My issue is that my printer has been on the blitz for several months now.

Please don't take this wrongly, but even if I had the ability to participate, I probably wouldn't. Simply because for the cost of buying the stuff, doing the work, and sending it off, and hoping to get something we like in return; I could just buy/do it for myself and save some money on postage and headaches.

Having a toddler myself, I think it's a cute idea, but I really can't justify the cost. Especially since some babies are notorious for ruining clothes the first time they get worn.

I agree with @choke that your rating requirement is too low, and that may be deterring many swappers.

"Participants MUST have a 3.5 or better rating and NO NO-SENDS"

If they have no no-sends, then their rating must come from 3s and 5s. To get a rating as low as 3.5, they would need to be getting three 3 ratings for every 5. Do you really want people in your swap who are failing to meet requirements or sending late on three quarters of their swaps? Even the 4.0 which choke suggested would still mean that half their swaps weren't meeting requirements, and 4.5 would mean a quarter didn't. Personally, if I was going to set a rating requirement I'd want it to me more like 4.7 or 4.8.

If you allow some 1 ratings at your discretion (old ones, or explained ones), then you do need to set the rating requirement a bit lower, perhaps 4.5, or be prepared to waive it for exceptional cases.

I think it is a good idea to allow some wriggle room by saying something about reserving the right to make exceptions either way.

I don't have kids, so this wouldn't be a swap I'd join (though the idea does sound cute) but I also wouldn't join because of the 3.5 rating thing. Personally, I don't join swaps allow any ratings lower than 4.7 - it's just too risky.

szreader 09/16/2008

Ummm...I do have kids, but they're not 'kids' anymore (in their 20s!). I agree, 3.5 rating is too low for my comfort level, if I were interested in this swap. Don't be discouraged, though. Good for you for trying (I've never hosted a swap).

Thanks for the input!

I, too, am having problems getting people to join my swaps :-/ They are basic ATC swaps, so they are not expensive or anything... Within 2 hours, I had 6 people join. Then, no one. It's been almost a week and nothing at all since the 6 joined the first day... :(

LINDA50 09/30/2008

Angela your swap descriptions are well written and 6 is a good number. If you have only one it is still a swap right? Because you will only receive from one person. In the Frustrations thread I was reading recently people were complaining about the high cost of postage and some people are not doing international swaps right now because of money issues. I think this is sad as an ATC is probably the lightest thing you can send, and some of the best ATC's I have received have been international ones. Another thing is a lot of people are cutting way back on their swaps, including me. The holidays are coming up and people just sent kids back to school there are a lot of things right now impacting how many swap dollars people have to spend.

spinjenny 09/30/2008

There may be others who have put your swap on their Watch list rather than joining at once. Some people who are interested may be nervous because you are so new, giving them an extra reason for waiting till nearer the Sign-up date. By the way, you might want to add to your description of the rating criteria to make it more consistent with the official version - 3s are for not meeting the swap requirements in general, not specifically for lateness.

AngelaMariex3 09/30/2008

I'm not sure what you mean about "By the way, you might want to add to your description of the rating criteria to make it more consistent with the official version - 3s are for not meeting the swap requirements in general, not specifically for lateness.". Would you mind clarifying, please? Maybe I misunderstood what 3's were used for? Thanks.

spinjenny 09/30/2008

From the Ratings box: *"3 - I got my stuff, but it didn't meet the posted swap requirements."

Not meeting the swap requirements includes things like sending $1 items for a swap which asks for $5+ items, or sending earrings for a swap which requires you to send a necklace, or in your swap's case, sending 2 ATCs when it says 3.

AngelaMariex3 09/30/2008

Okay, thank you. I will fix those now! :)

pahasiga 09/30/2008

By the same logic, sending 4 when swap asks 3 is not meeting the requirements, either. ;)

spinjenny 10/1/2008

LOL, but you've met the swap requirements and then sent an extra, so it is an automatic heart, right?

(just joking! there should be no such thing as an automatic heart.)

I'm having trouble getting people to join my t-shirt swap. Though I know most people on here swap crafts, I love clothes and I think that t-shirts can be pretty inexpensive! I have found a good number worth $10 or less.

I had this swap once before and sent a cherry-themed shirt to my partner who loved it! I also received a black Tinkerbell t-shirt from a lady in the USA and I wear it all the time to school! I also get asked where I got it, since many friends find it so cute.

So please let me know what I could edit about my swap and do join as well! :) I plan to have these t-shirt swaps regularly because I really loved that one shirt I got last year from a swap :)

@thatshot7 - I think the swap needs a bit of tweeking. Add something in about no-sends, my personal preference for time consuming or higher end swaps is to only join those that require all participants have absolute NO no-sends, but even saying no no-sends in the past six months is a good idea. Also you won't get many people to read this here, you'll want to make your own post advertising the swap and even elsewhere on the site. (In groups, leave a comment or send a message to someone you think would enjoy it, in a few different sections of the forum page as they can get buried easily, etc.)

thatshot7 10/2/2008

@choke thanks i took your advice and added the part about the no no-sends :)

i've been trying to promote it but so far only have one person sign up. i'll continue trying to message people who i think may be interested :)
