A year or two ago I picked up an old briefcase full of stuff for a paint salesman. Part of this briefcase of goodies are over 100 Cabot Stain Samples on wood with a punched hole in them. They're about 1.5"x5" in dimension and fairly flexible. I've broken some up and used them on different projects but most of them are all different shades of browns/beiges and it's not a color I use much. I've always wanted to set up some sort of swap to get them altered somehow, sort of like an ATC, but I figure it's going to be a pretty big expense sending them all out. For starters would anyone be interested in trading them decorated? Would you want to keep them? (I wouldn't mind having 20 or so back to make a wall hanging out of once finished. So if you want to do a private swap please do pm me!!) If you want to keep them, how many? Is asking for a hostess gift rude? (To cover the cost of sending, though if it's only 2-3 pieces it'll cost them about the same amount just to send to me :/) Any other suggestions? I'd also send out some if you just want them for a project too. I should mention that I got them as leftovers of a garage sale and I'm sure they'll smell musty to someone. The briefase was immediately thrown away as it was filthy and broken, but they've sat on my shelf for long enough and haven't smelled up the room or anything. Thanks for any input!

Why not make them into Christmas ornaments?

You could also tile the top of a small wooden box. I've seen projects where you stain 3x3" blocks with different colors stains, then apply to dresser tops for a custom look. This would be similar on a small scale.

I had made keychains out of samples I get from home depot,I think they are laminate samples, something like what you have maybe.

I'd use them to decorate the inside bottom of a wooden serving tray.

Thanks for the suggestions :D I don't mean to sound rude in saying I wasn't really looking for other suggestions as far as projects I could do with them, I've thought of a million things I could do with them, but brown just isn't my color and over 80% are all different shades. I was just wondering if anyone was interested in swapping them decorated or wanted them themselves for a project. (well the particular line about suggestions was asking for suggestions on the hostess gift thing.)

I guess I could make something for someone else if all else fails though, and I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind!
