Description:

September is for Sarcophagi!

The burial traditions of ancient Egypt just capture the imagination, and especially in the (well, for the northern hemisphere) darker months of the year. Osiris and Set, Isis and Horus ... and who could forget Taweret and Anubis this time of year? (Thank you, Rick Riordan and Terry Pratchett, for rekindling my childhood interest in ancient Egypt!)

This month's challenge: create a card with a mummy on the inside and a sarcophagus on the outside. Materials are sender's choice -- whatever you enjoy creating with -- no special embalming equipment required! Put the sarcophacard in an envelope that has a large sarcophagus on it (again, how you create the sarcophagus is up to you -- it can be glued on, and the address written over it, drawn around the address, etc.) On the back of the envelope, the sender will write Round 1, and sender's swap name. Mail the sarcophelope to one partner.

The receiving partner will rate the sender on the outside envelope, and keep the sarcophelope in a secure location, undisturbed, until Round 2. Rounds 2 (and subsequent rounds, should we want to push the limits of sarcophagi) will be set up as 1:1 exchanges in this thread. When we've decided that there have been enough rounds of Sarcophasilliness or Sarcophaseriousness, then we can decide to open them or keep them undisturbed forever :)

Let me know what questions or clarifications that I need to make -- the idea is that there will be, after this round and a few 1:1 swaps, several layers of sarcophagus envelopes, and one card with a sarcophagus on the outside and a mummy on the inside. It is really more about the fun of the project than about being the most amazing mail artist in the world :)

I angel all my swaps, and check profiles before assigning partners; let me know if a concern comes up :)

I think this is a really awesome idea, but I am concerned about the three rounds. Pretty much this won't work unless every person from round 1 joins all three swaps, and no one new joins... otherwise someone is going to end up with the short end of the mummy...

on my watch list...

Hmm -- so what do you think? One round only? Or make it an RAK type thing or 1:1 swap set up in the forum for a small group of committed folks? Let me know, I am open to ideas and invested in making this one happen!

OK, here is a location to discuss naturenaerd3's concerns and how we might address them here

So, if there are not any objections, I will propose making this a 1-round swap, then signing ourselves up for 1:1 swaps via a forum thread for subsequent round -- that should hopefully resolve the issue? I will officially change the description and notify participants tomorrow AM, unless I hear another idea ...

And swap is now edited. I hope this fixes the concern. :)
