Description:

This is a swap for mainly for people who are just starting out with Deco books, although experienced Deco swappers are very welcome of course! So, if perhaps you don't hold any Decos yet, or you may only have one or two so you aren't able to join some of the swap which require you to send a lot, then this swap is a great way to get you started.

We will have one partner to whom we will send two Deco books. They can both be established, or you can send one established one and one new one, or, they can both be new.

In case anyone is unsure, the definition of a Deco Book from Wikipedia is:

Decos are similar to FBs, but are often larger in size. The cover is often decorated with interesting materials like magazine pictures, rubber stamps, decorative papers, and other embellishments. Each person who signs decorates a full page in the book. Sometimes the book has a theme, for example cats. Then, each person decorates their page following the theme. As with FBs, when these are full, they are sent home to the person for whom the book was made.

  • You can theme your book if you want, so that everyone who decorates a page needs to do it to a theme.
  • Ensure that the name and address of the person who the book is to be returned to is in the front.
  • This is an international swap
  • Although I am going to allow 'newbies', you will still need to have been rated for at least 5 swaps, either Type 2 and/or Type 3
  • You must have a full profile. I will be checking
  • Minimum rating will be 4.95

I will remove anyone from the swap who has late swaps on their dashboard, has any unresolved 1s, or recent 3s or is known to be a questionable swapper or flaker. I will be checking all profiles thoroughly.

I'm working on a Deco Book type swap with some of the Special Ed students I work with. The plan is to make a wall of the pictures we receive, for art inspirational purposes. because of this, the pages are not bound. We are using old Christmas Cards (unused) as covers. Are other swappers willing to accept these? Until I know, I am watching only.

@StarMouse - I personally don't think that will be a problem, as long as you have some way of making sure the pages stay together so none get lost as they are sent around. Perhaps a staple which you can remove when you receive it back, or punch a hole in each page and tie them together with string or a ribbon?

Also, if you only want each page decorated on one side, just make sure you specify that at the front of the books.

I think Christmas Cards as covers is a great idea though! I might use that one myself...

Cool swap, nice to be able to swap some decos in Swap-Bot too. Personally I think using plain postcards as deco covers is perhaps a bit on the dull side - decos are supposed to be actually decorated by their maker and owner after all. It would feel a bit uninspiring to make a page in a deco with a postcard on the cover; Unless you just use the postcard as a base for other decoration and art etc, of course. I often use old notecards as bases for painting and collage in decos.

I agree @Veterok - it would be good to see some creativity on the postcards or Christmas cards - perhaps a bit of collage, added embellishments, zentangle etc?

Obviously everyone has different levels of artistic skill, but it would be nice to see the covers altered or embellished in some way.

I thought about StarMouse's first message a bit and came up with one solution for the problem with the pages - you could make a deco envelope: This way you don't have to deal with folded pages and you don't have to worry about the attachment of them either, because the pages can be loose cards inside this decorated and embellished envelope. Each participant in the deco can then use one of the cards for their art.

Thanks for all the positive feedback! The kids and our helpers put the cards in envelopes, so they will travel in their envelopes. Everyone is very excited! thanks for the input, and cheers, StarMouse
