Description:

The July 2016 Fandom in a Mini Bag swap is the Wizard of Oz.

Step 1: Please list in the comments your favorite characters, movies, books, songs, scenes, etc. Feel free to include Oz-related interests if you like, such as Wicked, the Wiz, etc.

Step 2: After partners are assigned, check to see what your partner likes. You can follow-up with a message if you need to know more. Then scrounge up, buy, and/or create items that fit in a bag. Your bag must contain at least 5 different types of items although more is certainly encouraged. (PLEASE try to make it look full). Different types of items means 5 ATCs, 3 pins, 2 postcards would be 10 items but only 3 different types. The swap requirement is for 5 different types in a bag.

Some ideas of themed items: stickers, ATCs, postcards, toys/action figures, comics, note cards, pins/buttons, magnets, jewelry, trading cards, legal music CDs, charms, ornaments, bookmarks, address labels, plushies/stuffies, promo stills/autograph cards, fanfic drabbles/ficlets, etc.

More specific ideas: poppy pin, There's No Place Like Home cross stitch sampler, postcard from Kansas, Emerald City brand something, Oz series book recommendations/actual books, etc.

Be sure to check your partner's profile so you don't send anything he or she might be allergic to.

Step 3: Put the items in a ziplock-type bag. Size: 1 quart (AT LEAST 8.5inches by 7 inches or 21.5cm by 18cm). You can decorate the bag or incorporate the bag into something (mount it or sew something around it). If you want to make or buy a bag instead of using a ziplock plastic one, that's fine as well, but it should be at least a quart in size. All items you gather or create should fit into the bag (if a couple are too big, that's fine).

Assemble your bags during the month of September and please send by the deadline (September 30).

Group rating rules apply. NO FLAKING ALLOWED! Flakers will be melted with a bucket of water.

My favorite of all the characters in the movie is the Scarecrow. I kind of favor him in the books, too. I also like Princess Ozma (I like her as the boy Tip, too) and Jack Pumpkinhead from the books. I had the opportunity last year to see the movie on the big screen (Turner Classic Movies put it out in select theatres – one was about 8 miles from me – with an introduction by Robert Osborn – fantastic!), and it was awesome! There were so many things I “saw” for the first time, even after years of watching it on the small screen (when I was little, it showed up like clockwork, usually every March, and it was a family affair to watch it). Needless to say, I really like it all, including the author’s own story.

Things I love:

  • I am trying to collect the whole series in paperback, published by Dover. Message me if you want to know which I have/which I'm missing.
  • Toto (my parents have a cairn terrier, so ANYTHING cairn terrier or Toto-related is always appreciated)
  • Tip/Ozma (I adored Tip when I was young, and really loved the role Ozma took in Oz)
  • The Gump (I spent my childhood pushing couches together and fastening on brooms and other things to re-create the Gump)
  • Marvelous Land of Oz was my favorite book, if you couldn't guess. I must have read it at least 50 times. Also loved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and The Magic of Oz
  • Silver slippers FTW! But my friend collects things that are Ruby slipper-related, so that would also be appreciated
  • The land of Oz in general- love fantasy worlds, and Oz is so fascinating and magical and interesting. I love the different colored grass in the different lands, the amazing Emerald City, etc. Would LOVE a map of the world (hand drawn, printed out, whatever) for my home library where I put fantasy world maps on the walls
  • The Wizard of Oz movie will always be special to me. I adore the music and the whole movie experience--actors, imagery, lines, etc. It's a masterpiece. Would love to see your love of it come through in this swap.
  • I also think the graphic novel art by Skottie Young is AMAZING and creative
