Description:

Please note: This swap is for letterpress printers only. Also, ignore the number of swap partners. Read the update below.

There are so many wonderful letterpress printers these days that I thought it would fun to do a print exchange. I will give us plenty of time to create our prints and send them out.

It would be great if you could create a print specifically for this swap rather than using an existing plate. Though if you took and old design and re-worked it, that could be fun too. Let's stick to art prints rather than cards or postcards. I was thinking these would be small prints 8.5x11" or smaller but if you really want to do a large print, go for it. As far as subject matter, that is up to you. Just create something that is indicative of your studio and the work you typically do.

UPDATE I have had many requests to alter the swap to include a print from everyone. As it stands now, you will make enough prints for everyone in the swap (around 30 or so) and INSTEAD of sending them to every person individually, you will send them to me along with a few bucks for shipping. I will sort them all out into packets and ship them to each of you in a protective mailer. This will end up being cheaper for shipping and much less wasteful. (Can you imagine 30 people sending out 30 packages? ugh)

I have invited a bunch of great printers and I am hoping that everyone will photograph their submission. I would love to collect all the images and perhaps send them around to various blogs. I think people would love to see what we have done. Wouldn't it be great if this became an annual event and maybe even an exhibition?

vanessavh... letterpress is a form of relief printmaking involving a printing press that inks up a plate and presses the inked image into paper creating an impression. It is centuries old and a very beautiful art form. http://www.briarpress.org is a great site with lots of information regarding letterpress printing.

For examples of things that have been letterpress printed, feel free to look here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=50086

WOW! I've learn all kinds of interesting things from being on Swap-bot. I had no idea letter presses were used outside of businesses. Awesome. It sounds intriguing.
