Description:

This is a quick and easy swap to learn a new technique. For this swap you will watch the video and try the technique for yourself. You may stitch a small piece for your partner, or simply send them the practice swatch you worked on.

**Loop Method

Then write them a small note answering the following questions:

  1. Had you tried this technique before or did you learn something new?

  2. What do you think would be the benefits or negatives when using this method?

  3. Do you think you will use this method in your projects?

That's it! If you want to include any stitchy fun items for your partner it is not required but you may if you would like. Rate a 5 if your partner followed directions. Hearts are your decision. I will be hosting technique swaps like this with varying degrees of difficulty. I look forward to learning with all of you!!

Happy stitching!! Christina

NO FLAKING PLEASE. Flakers will be removed from the group.

Kinda surprised that this is even considered a "technique" as this is how I always start a new thread. I just assumed that everyone did...

There are 2 other start methods I am aware of and I will cover them too. Loop start can't be used in some occasions and is even discouraged by a lot of people... I LOVE IT. In the George Washington project I am in the loop start isn't. Allowed! I will also cover the pin stitch start so stay tuned. Will move into other techniques as well. Want to make sure we have something for all stitching levels. This also gives a chance to teach each other. I learned with the tuck method (whatever you call it).

Well, I don't buy the "weaker stitch" nonsense that people might say about it, since you are always crossing over it anyway. And the "hard to get at the back of a larger piece" to start it... well, you'd have to get at the back to untangle a thread or at the very least to finish off the thread by passing it under other threads on the back. I, personally, love the loop start method and use it unless I have an odd number of threads. But to each his own. I'd like to know how roughly one has to handle their stitching to break a thread, though. I just can't imagine. ..
