Description:

I am atheist, but to the dismay of many Christians, I am not a devil worshiper. I have high morals and I am in general a good person. I just don't believe in gods. And also for the 'religious' folk that will be intrigued to read this swap info, atheism is not a religion, it is a belief of non-belief. Please don't start sending me messages telling me you will pray for me. You have the right and freedom to believe, the same as I have the right and freedom NOT to believe. So unless you're joining my swap please don't comment or message me. To say I don't believe in 'God' would be acknowledging that are gods and thus making me not atheist...understand?

Anyway the point of this swap is to make two atc's that explain why you are an atheist, or at least question the existence of gods and religion.

You can bash, you can curse, you can scream. You do NOT have to be nice.

No one with less than a 4 and no more than one no send. If you have very few ratings and one no send I can't let you in. But for those who have like 30 ratings with one no send, I can check into. If you are new, you can sign up if you think you will have some ratings before the send out date gets here. but when i go to assign the partners and you still have no ratings, I'll have to take you out. I don't want anyone to have a bad experience.

Message me if you have any questions...sorry this was so long winded. I just get a bit riled up at this subject :)

One of my favorite bumper stickers is...

"Just another soulless atheist in search of world peace."

This is a great swap - thanks for thinking it up!

alishamitchum 04/11/2007 #

That's a great bumper sticker. I have one of those fish that religious people like to put on their cars but instead of jesus mine says n' chips....fish and chips...ha ha... I thought it was hilarious.

rhodyart 04/11/2007 #

I don't think I'll sign up for this one because I'm more a believer than not but I love the darwin fish! And Fish and Chips sounds really good right now

MerriAmelie 04/11/2007 #

well... i am more agnostic than atheist, so i don't know if i should join!! having attneded a very devout christian school that was intolerant of everyone else (for 13 years!!), my personal favorite bumper sticker is "i love jesus, its his followers that i hate." i think i will think about this one for a minute... :)

alishamitchum 04/11/2007 #

Well Merri you don't have to make your cards about atheism, they could just be about how you hate the hipocritical christians, or organized religion.

I guess I should add a note, you don't have to be atheist, but maybe just questioning how religiion works or why it works.

ElizabethObviously 04/11/2007 #

lol well if it is about questioning religion in general i would fit in there. I am Wiccan but i love reading those bumperstickers....one i rememebr says something about dragons...and people tasting good with catsup! I used to get a catalog that sold all those kinds of bumperstickers,shirts...anyone know what it is???

marnel 04/11/2007 #

On my car...

"God, an imaginary friend for grownups" You should see the nasty looks I get from the 'believers'.

alishamitchum 04/11/2007 #

I've seen that one, it is hilarious!! Right now i am out of town but when i get back home to my computer i'll share some links for buying that kind of stuff. i don't usually buy i just like reading them :)

PostMuse 04/11/2007 #

I don't buy, but I've seen this catalog at my sister's house, http://www.northernsun.com/ Site loads real slow. It has lots of "spiritual" stuff, but lots of Darwin, too.

Cnvingltlbtch 04/11/2007 #

Not sure if this is appropriate to post but it was a funny email sent to me..and it seems to fit with the subject here...

THE BEST ROAD RAGE!

An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him.

He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman hit the roof--and the horn-screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.

The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car."

Priceless

I'm in, been finding it difficult lately to be labelled pagan when I don't believe in 'the goddess' all I beleive in is the power of nature and that kind of led me to traditional witchcraft. That usually sends religious types nutty. I don't advertise the fact and like to think that people realise that just because they know my beleifs (and non beleifs) now, I'm no different a person than 5 mins ago.... here's hoping!

LuldaCasadaga55 04/11/2007 #

OK I'm In...wow, can I give you all some stories...but I will refrain at this time...trying to keep my bloold pressure down these days. I lean more toward agnostic, wiccan, nature lover, believe in a universal power, etc. Oh and don't forget the aliens!!! :D

I won't bug you about yours if your don't bug me about mine! Anyway, my head wants to explode thinking about the hereafter! And right now I need my head thank u!!!

user6682 04/11/2007 #

"God, an imaginary friend for grownups"

that's exactly what i've been saying since i was a kid and had to suffer through catholic school! my stepdad is a philosopher, so instead of fairy tales, i got philosophy and history lessons for bedtime stories. hard to be a believer after that! i am so in!

SharonP 04/11/2007 #

LOL cnvingltlbtch, I loved that story!

OK, I have to think about this one too, not because I am uncertain (I embrace uncertainty, that's why I'm an agnostic!), but because I am trying not to commit to too many swaps. But, it does have a certain appeal, and I see swappers I like a lot posting here, so that's making me lean in a little.

Will ponder my calendar a bit first.

SharonP 04/11/2007 #

Just to clarify (I had to go back and reread the description while I am thinking about it): we have three partners, but you say to make two ATCs, so that's two per partner for six total, right?

user6682 04/11/2007 #

just one question: how many atcs per partner?

Cnvingltlbtch 04/11/2007 #

it looks like 2 per partner, if i read it right

alishamitchum 04/11/2007 #

yes it is 2 cards for each partner which will be a total of 6 cards.

SharonP 04/11/2007 #

OK, I'm in.

I noticed that someone mentioned Northern Sun Merchandising for bumper stickers and stuff -- they're based in my town, Minneapolis!

Here's another site where you can print out and make your own "Charles Darwin has a posse" stickers, modeled after those Andre the Giant ones:

PostMuse 04/12/2007 #

The Darwin icons are fun on the Swarthmore site.

alishamitchum 04/27/2007 #

This is insane, I can't believe so many people have dropped from this swap!! Hopefully we even have enough by the time it's time to send.

Alisha

isis8 04/28/2007 #

I'm glad you made this swap. Now I don't feel so alone about my atheism. Thanks. I'm in!!

alishamitchum 04/29/2007 #

I'm glad I could help. And I know how you feel. Every time there is a tragedy everyone says I'll pray for you. Or it must be in 'god's' will. It's good to know I may not be the only one that laughs at them under my breath, or even out loud.

Alisha

SharonP 04/29/2007 #

Alisha, I wouldn't be too concerned about people dropping, who knows the reasons, but there are tons of swaps in May competing for attention, so maybe they are just having to make choices about which swaps to stay in.

alishamitchum 04/30/2007 #

My cards are ready to go. I'll have the partners assigned in the morning and mine will be mailed out first thing.

Alisha

SharonP 04/30/2007 #

Well, we still have 7 participants, so we're good!

SharonP 05/ 4/2007 #

I received ATCs from Alisha today -- thanks, Alisha. I can see why you started this swap, you have strong feelings about the topic!

SharonP 05/10/2007 #

I got two ATCs from Jennifer today -- very nice!

SharonP 05/10/2007 #

I've uploaded pictures of the ATCs I have received so far.

PostMuse 05/13/2007 #

Got cards from Jen L today (or sometime in the last week and a half.... I haven't been able to get to the post office). Thank you very much!

I'm still struggling with my cards. What I thought would work, isn't, so I am redesigning one card. Will get them out before the deadline, though!

PostMuse 05/14/2007 #

My cards are now in the gallery and will be going out tomorrow morning.

SharonP 05/18/2007 #

Postmuse, I got your wonderful cards today. Very nice interpretation of the them -- it's a tough one to portray visually, I think. I also appreciate the vintage fashion notecard you included and the thoughtful note. It's nice to know a little more about your thought process in creating the cards.

Thanks!
