Description:

Valentine's day is my favorite holiday and my birthday is in February, so I love hosting February matchbox swaps!

the simple guidelines:

For this easy, fun times, international matchbox swap we will each have just one partner. You will make your partner one love, Valentine's day, or February themed matchbox - the small 32-count size (approximately 2 x 1.5 x .5 inches). What is February themed? I guess it could be many things: President's Day, Chinese New Year, Black History Month.... you can be creative!

I use this template to make my matchboxes out of cardstock, but most swappers decorate real, empty matchboxes.

You also need to fill your matchbox with similarly themed goodies. I like filling my boxes with stickers, ribbon, brads, buttons, beads, and other little embellishments. Anything goes, but make sure you send something you would love to receive.

You aren't required to send extras for this swap, but remember to include your name, your swap-bot username, and your email address in your package.

rating requirements:

This swap is international. Everyone must have over a 4.9 rating to participate with very, very few no sends. If you don't meet these requirements, message me and we can probably work something out. New users are welcome, but I must ban anyone who looks fishy. (A filled out profile is required.) It is a harsh world out there and I want to keep my matchbox swappers safe!

let's swap:

This swap has a quick turnaround, but you can start working on your matchbox now! Remember that this swap is sender's choice and you can get a love, Valentine's Day, or February themed matchbox in this swap. If you don't like any of those things, this probably isn't the swap for you. Let's have fun!

xoxo

Just a heads up too! Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day fall on the same day this year. It's the Year of the Tiger!

solarts 01/ 2/2010 #

That's ace! thanks pursehappygal.

papercrafter23 01/ 2/2010 #

Hey, in the Chinese zodiac, I am a tiger. It's my year, I guess!

racheljohnson 01/ 4/2010 #

Yes, Chinese New Year would definitely work as a theme. Thanks for the suggestion!

homeandheart 01/ 8/2010 #

Would a "Bride" or "Wedding" theme be okay?

racheljohnson 01/11/2010 #

Sure! I am positive that there are weddings going on in February. :)

NicoleC 01/16/2010 #

What's the best way to mail these little treasures?

pursehappygal 01/17/2010 #

The absolute best way is in a small box . Next down from that would be well wrapped with bubble wrap and then some corrugated cardboard in a bubble envie. The cardboard would prevent serious squashing.

spazzysixx 01/17/2010 #

Just wanted to say that your matchboxes are gorgeous!

racheljohnson 01/18/2010 #

Thanks, @spazzysixx ! I love making them. I ship mine in a bubble envelope, wrapped in tissue. I haven't had any report of them being smooshed, but I also really fill them full of trinkets, which also helps them keep their shape.

p.s. this swap is in the top ten!! woot!

MzPatti 01/19/2010 #

Thank you for accepting me into this swap, Rachel. :) I just returned from Hobby Lobby with some gorgeous card stock and am ready to get started. What fun this will be!

postmansdaughter 01/19/2010 #

Hello I am new to Swap bot but have been a side-line groupie through friends who have been swapping for awhile. I just finished a major project in my life & have decided to give it a try. If you let me into this swap (my 1st!?) I promise not to flake. thanks! PS, I am also a Feb birthday.

racheljohnson 01/19/2010 #

yes, join, @postmansdaughter ! We are happy to have you. I like having new users in my swaps. (Plus, I angel my matchboxe swaps, just in case.)

KarinaWorninger 01/23/2010 #

I Denmark weehave Fastelavn at same date as valentines day this year, it a litle like halloween. Could i be ok to make that as a theme to? Its a very odd tradition if you not are from denmark, wee dress up (like you do at halloween) and take turns to hid at a wodden barrol that hang in the ceeling(we call it to hit the cat out of the barrol) filled with candy and other goodies.. And the one who take the barrol dowm is crowm as the CatKing.. It would be my fist macthbos swap... and i think it would be so much fun

girlwithoutaname 01/25/2010 #

I started working on this swap almost immediately after I signed for it. How do I know who to send it to? This is my first swap and I want to send it on time and make sure I adhere to the rules. Thanks!

eyeskater 01/25/2010 #

I love cats..I wouldn't mind a matchbox like Karina suggests.

racheljohnson 01/26/2010 #

@KarinaWorninger - yes, feel free to do a matchbox in the Denmark holiday theme. I just suggest explaining the custom to your partner. I am sure they will love it!

@girlwithoutaname - You will be able to access your partner's info here on the swap page after the sign up deadline. Partners are assigned after everyone has had a chance to sign up. Check back on February 5th and you will find a "See the partners you send to" link.

Briggy13 01/29/2010 #

Is anyone out there able to give me the proper dimensions in centimeters please? Thank you :-)

racheljohnson 01/29/2010 #

The boxes are 5.08 x 3.81 x 1.27 centimeters.

Briggy13 01/30/2010 #

Thank you very much racheljohnson for your answer. That's small !!!

amuhleisen 01/31/2010 #

Just an FYI to my partner: I am a first time matchbox maker!

KarinaWorninger 01/31/2010 #

Amuhleisen, youre not alone... i havent make one before either..

me2u 01/31/2010 #

I have done only one matchbox swap and thanks to Rachel for hosting it and letting newbies in. I found it really easy to make the matchbox by putting my decorated paper that I wanted for my matchbox in my printed (upside down so it printed on the other side) and used Rachel's template. It printed the template right on my paper and all I had to do was cut it out and paste it. It's a great template. See everyone in the swap.

justinandstephanie 02/ 2/2010 #

I would LOVE to be in this swap!! I even made a matchbox already to make sure I could do it!!! THanks so much!

SexyBreakfast 02/ 2/2010 #

I love this craft soooo much! I had never even heard of swap-boy before, but I signed up just so I could do this swap! I'm sure that now I will be a very active member. It's sooo great that this site exists Yay

SexyBreakfast 02/ 2/2010 #

*Swap-bot blah

Peacewytch 02/ 2/2010 #

I'd bet 'swap-boy' would be popular for very different reasons, LOL! :OD

racheljohnson 02/ 3/2010 #

Yay! This swap has so many participants. I am excited. Thanks to everyone for joining! Tomorrow is the last day to sign up and then I will get partners assigned asap.

KarinaWorninger 02/ 4/2010 #

I would love to angle this to if it is needed... ;-)

KarinaWorninger 02/ 4/2010 #

hate that europe is one day in front of usa..

racheljohnson 02/ 5/2010 #

Ok, partners have now been assigned. There are quite a few new people whom I am thrilled to have in the swap. Some found Swap-bot via the Etsy event I hosted this week.

I am still working with a few of the new users to get their profiles totally filled out, but since this is a sender's choice, it shouldn't be a huge problem. Also, anyone with recent 1 or 3 ratings has contacted me about their situation.

I DO angel my swaps, so please contact me after the send deadline if you do not receive a package.

Have fun making your matchboxes! Thanks for joining my swap!! xoxo

MzPatti 02/ 5/2010 #

Just braved an Ohio blizzard to mail my partner's box out. NOTHING will stand in the way of my swaps! :P Hope they like it! :) Patti

magsb80 02/ 5/2010 #

Thanks for organising this swap Rachel. I'm excited to participate in my first ever swap via Swap-Bot.

dkay 02/ 5/2010 #

What is the best way to mail these so they don't get squashed?

girlwithoutaname 02/ 6/2010 #

I made an altered book that holds three matchboxes inside. The theme is Valentines Day and I crafted the book to look like a box of chocolates, with the boxes holding choc pics.I am sure this is acceptable but I would like to double check before I send my package. I do not want to disappoint anyone and this is my first swap.If I need to change it I can do so before I send it on Monday. Thanks

racheljohnson 02/ 6/2010 #

@dkay - I send my matchboxes wrapped in tissue inside a bubble envelope. They are usually filled pretty tight with goodies, so it would be hard for them to get smooshed.

@girlwithoutaname - your matchbox creation sounds spectacular and I would think your partner would enjoy it, but you might contact them via the messaging system or email just to ask them to be totally sure.

KarinaWorninger 02/ 7/2010 #

I send my box in the smallest box you ca get at the postoffice.. my box is ready to get mailed tomorrow...

racheljohnson 02/ 7/2010 #

I am mailing mine tomorrow, as well... however, since this swap had such a quick turnaround, I am extending the mail deadline by one day. Hopefully, all of the matchboxes will still reach their destinations by Valentine's Day.

KarinaWorninger 02/ 8/2010 #

My box is on the way to kathchown

Sharna 02/ 8/2010 #

Dropped mine at the post office this morning... Have to tell you though our mail didn't run this weekend due to 18" of snow.... We never got our Saturday mail. So I hope this gets out ok. We are due for another 8" between now and Wed!

racheljohnson 02/ 8/2010 #

My package was just dropped in the mailbox! Happy February, everyone!

dkay 02/11/2010 #

Many thanks! My first package and I am just soooooo happy! I think I am going to love swapping!

Perrijo 02/19/2010 #

This was my first swap, so how do I know if my partner received their package? I mailed on time, so no reason they would not have, just hate to leave it a question. Thanks.
