Description:

I have an atc book that I learned about Gesso in but had no gesso so I used tissue paper instead.

First Off we are making 1 atc for 1 partner The theme is senders choice. The medium will be desribed in this swap and must be followed.

For those of you who have used gesso, you know what to do. Just find your magazine image, apply gesso, trace and paint.

For the tissue paper way: Use white tissue paper. Find the image you want to use. Cut it into the ATC card size. apply stick glue (just 1 coat) apply tissue paper, becareful of too many wrinkles. Very gently smooth out. Let dry.

Now take a black fine tip pen (like a zig) and trace the lines. You can add to or change the image you are using with your pen.

Now paint. I use apple or plaid craft paints. But any will do. You can go back over your black lines if you cover any up.

this will be a new technique for some of us, and I have only done 2 cards with it and I had alot of fun. It is so easy my 8 year old did one with a cat.

You can use any image you like dont do something to complicated. with lots of lines. Have fun and be creative, make your cards sturdy.

This looks like a fun technique to try. I'll be using tissue paper.

I cut the image from the magazine the same size as my card, glue it to the card, then glue the tissue paper on top. so youve got the general idea.

the photo I used on the swap page is actually from an ad where she is drinking coffee. but the darker paint over the tissue paper covers all that up. You only have to outline what you want, then its kinda like paint by numbers

I used tissue paper too, no gesso anywear within 100 miles! do a practice first

the above is a magazine image from an underwear ad. of course I only used her face.

Candyn29 03/29/2010 #

oh yeah, on the photo with the silver hair, I actually did her hair in a different way from the original photo

Please subsitute the tissue paper if you do not have gesso, for tissue the directions are above image2

Is a glue stick the only kind of glue that will work right with the tissue paper? I have yet to find a glue stick that I like.

Candyn29 04/ 1/2010 #

Im pretty sure thats the only thing that will work. Any other glue would go on too wet and just make a mushy mess of the tissue paper.

wow where did you get that tool?

Cool, I just bought my first tub of gesso, so if I have time I'll be joining the swap so learn how to start using it! Thanksfor the instructions.

The Gesso I have is gray will it work? I thought it was meant to prime and hide the surface underneath.

Candyn29 04/ 6/2010 #

I dont think you can totally hide it, if you are going to trace it, but as you can see in my cards, you cnt see the original photo, and you wouldnt know what ad its from. My painting looks nothing like the original, of course Im not an expert painter.

@heartsablaze what tool? The book Im getting the instructions from is called artist trading card workshop, you can get it at barnesandnoble.com for $23

I think she means the ATC viewfinder tool.

This technique looks like a lot of fun to try!

working on mine in a few minutes, when the baby naps. I applied the tissue paper last night. if it works out, no idea if it will since i am not a painter, i will join

KizzyMama 04/ 9/2010 #

success!

Candyn29 04/ 9/2010 #

I made my own atc viewfinder out of plastic. but you can make one out of paper. But I dont even use the one I made,

KizzyMama 04/ 9/2010 #

I made one of cardboard to use with this swap. I think it will come in handy, so I might make a plastic one too
