About Me

ATTENTION: I have recently been having some issues with my email account - I can send but can't recieve all emails that are being sent to me. If you email me and don't hear back from me please send me a message on Swap-bot so we can work out another form of contact.

I'm a self-proclaimed literary geek or lit geek as I like to call it. I love reading and writing. I write mostly poetry now, but do enjoy writing in general. I also enjoy knitting and enjoy sharing my knitting with others. Knitting and literature are my passions and my art forms and do love sharing my passions with the people I know.

I am an only child, but I do consider myself as coming from a big family because I am really close to my aunts, uncles and cousins.

I love cats and we have three adopted cats. One's a grey tiger striped cat with white feet. One's an organge tiger striped cat with beautiful blue eyes. The last cat is a small, brown, black and orange calico. She's got a black face with white wiskers that make her look like an old man with a handlebar mustasche.

I have a Bachelor's degree from Illinois State University. My major was English Studies - which was fun because I got to read a lot books and write some interesting papers. I work at a resteraunt and even though I'm trying to do more with my knitting and writing, but I'm glad to have a steady job.

I am also interested in the World War II era and the Holocaust. I am interested in looking at peoples motives for the decisions they made whether it was to help those in need, or otherwise. It's kind of like a search for a better understanding of that time.

I also love pink. It's a good thing that most of the knitting that I do is for other people because everything I knit would pink.

I live in Illionis, but I'm a southern girl at heart. I love the south and am determined to move down there someday. Illionis isn't all that bad, but the south will always be home for me.

Favorite Music

I listen to all types of music, but my favorite is rock - specifically hard/punk rock. My favorite bands include Avenged Sevenfold and the Goo Goo Dolls. I also enjoy classic rock - I'm a huge Beatles fan - and I also love swing music (I'm kind of fascinated by the WWII era - including the music that was popular at the time). Most of the music that I do listen to is music that I can relate to and it'll oven reflect my moods.

Favorite Books

Okay, so I have a lot of favorite books and authors, because I'm a lit geek. But for a lit geek, I read more popular fiction and history books than classic literature. I'm a big Stephen King fan - especially of the Dark Tower books. I am also a pretty big fan of Peter Hedges who wrote the book and screenplay for What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I also read a lot of V.C. Andrews books because I think they're entertaining. As far as books that are classified as literature in the bookstores - I like Jane Austen and Richard Yates (he wrote Revolutionary Road - the movie with Kate Winslet and Leo Dicaprio was based off of his book). I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells has also made my list of favorite books - I think I read it in less than a week.

Favorite Movies

I watch a wide range of movies, but mostly dramas. I was only going to list my top five, but the sixth movie's amazing so I'm listing my top six.

1) Titanic (It's the one movie I always go back to because we all have times when we just need to listen to Jack Dawson).

2) Roller Coaster (This is a movie very few people have heard of, but I love it. I do have to say it can be difficult to watch because it deals with a lot of issues that teenagers have that a lot of movies don't touch).

3) Stand By Me (I love how this movie is about friendship. I love how its just a little bit of everything in one - funny, sad, dramatic, etc.).

4) Dead Poets Society (I think this movie is a must for all lit geeks because it is heavily influenced by major poets. Plus this is the movie I turn to when I need inspiration).

5) What's Eating Gilbert Grape (I really don't know why I like this movie so much. I think its the lessons that Gilbert learns during the movie that make me like it so much).

6) Home Room (It's one of those movies that you notice something new every time you watch it and I love the complex love/hate relationship that two main characters have. Plus I love how Alicia is not afraid to tell people how it is, even when it's difficult to hear.)

Favorite Television

As far as TV goes, all the shows I watch have been canceled and I either watch them on DVD or the reruns on TV. I love Gilmore Girls, Boy Meets World, Wings, and Gilligan's Island. Boy Meets World is my favorite TV show, though. Boy Meets World has finally been realised on DVD and I'm excited. I've also recently gotten into Haven on Sci-fi. It's amazing.

Favorite Crafts

I am knitter. It's really the only craft that I do. I taught myself how to knit when I was thirteen and for awhile didn't do much with it. Now - over ten years later - I am able to knit socks, mittens, sweaters and afghans. I'm always looking for new challenges when it comes to knitting and love giving my knitting away to family and friends for birthday and Christmas presents. I have trouble finishing projects for myself - mostly because I'd rather knit for the people I know. I love looking at yarns and working with different types of yarns. My favorite projects are always socks. I can usually finish a pair before I get bored with the project (that's why I've never finished anything for myself) and there's enough patterns out there that I don't have to make the same pair twice.

Likes and Dislikes

Basically my likes are books, movies and music. I also like cooking. I trying new recepies, but I don't really cook with fish or seafood because don't like eating fish or seafood. I also really like history. I like the 1940s and 1950s (the '40s because that's the area of history I like to study and the '50s for the clothes and the cars). I'm also a bit of pen geek - I spend forever picking out pens in the store because there's so many different pens to try. I am also a coffee addict - I love any kind of coffee as long as it's not decaf.

There's very few things I dislike, but I do not like dogs or seafood. I am not really the outdoorsy type - I get sunburned too easily and I'd rather be reading a good book - but I'm not totally against it either. Oh, and I don't like sports, but that's mainly because I'm too much of a klutz to enjoy them.

Comment: Got your letter today Liz! The I am Not A Serial Killer series sounds awesome! I am going to check it out tomorrow when I got to the book shop, Im not a fan of Dean Koontz either and if it makes you feel better, while I did enjoy Catcher in the Rye--I fully agree that Holden is a *Bit* whiney :)

Comment: Thank you for the beautiful socks! The pattern's arch shaping looks interesting.
Response: The arch shaping is fairly easy to do, but does keep things interesting while knitting the foot. I liked it because it kept me from getting bored while knitting.
