About Me

Greetings - My name is Debbie and I am from Wisconsin, the "dairy" state. I am late-40s, married, but we have no children. We have a special-needs dog who is 16 years old. We live in the country, and we really enjoy the wide open spaces and fresh air. I work part-time at the post office, and I am guilty of buying way too many fun stamps.

When I am not working, I enjoy riding in the car with my husband, spending time with my immediate family (parents, siblings, their spouses, nieces, and nephews), shopping at thrift stores, and baking cookies.

My favorite hobbies are genealogy, and learning about European and American history. I do this mainly by reading books and watching documentary-type shows, but it is my heart's desire to actually visit all of the states in the US and many countries in Europe. I would especially like to visit the places in Europe where my ancestors came from and see if I can meet any long-lost relatives.

I LOVE collecting postcards. I find this hobby totally addicting, and I especially love cards of maps and state capitals. I also really enjoy historic buildings, churches, castles, etc. I ONLY collect used postcards. I would love to hear about you and your life, and in my opinion, what's the point of receiving a postcard from you if you can't write on it. I hope to get some wonderful postcards, and "meet" some wonderful people through postcards.

Favorite Music

Any Christian contemporary or pop, Celtic, Secret Garden, Ukrainian/Russian, big band and swing, Sinatra-type jazzy stuff.

Favorite Books

Genealogical resources, county histories, European histories, biographies, the bible.

Favorite Movies

Jane Austen adaptations, To Sir With Love, any movie with Audrey Hepburn, biographical or historical movies.

Favorite Television

Anything on PBS (we don't have cable), documentaries.

Hobbies

Doing Genealogy, collecting postcards. I especially like postcards of state maps, state capitals, and old buildings, such as churches, courthouses, castles, etc. I have also been learning to quilt lately.

Dislikes

Cigarette smells, anything related to witchcraft, Harry Potter, vampires, gory, horror, nudity, jokes in poor taste - you get the idea.

Comment: Thanks Debbie, I really like the Sony Wold Motel postcard and the fact that it is vintage is a delight. I'd love to see what it looks like now, after it has ceased to be in its prime. Of course, anyone could say the same of me! All the best, Cynthia

Comment: Debbie, I really like the Guerrilla Girl card....weapons no woman should know about, indeed! :-D It is funny, I just finished up a legal research project in which I was looking at lawsuits relating to "stray voltage." A great many of the cases involved dairy farms in Wisconsin, imagine that! Apparently, cows' hooves are very good conductors of electricity. Poor things, getting zapped right and left. I'd be nervous too. All the best for a great winter season, Cynthia.

Comment: Thank you for the lighthouse postcard and the wonderful note. I think all old world countries have more or less the same recipes only different names. Your holubtsi are our golumpki. Makes my mouth water. Now that the colder weather is coming, time to cook. Although my husband doesn't appreciate the smell of cabbage in the house so I have to make them on sunny days when I can leave the windows open for awhile. Shirley
Response: I am so glad you like the pc that I sent to you. Thank you for the great rating! That's too bad your husband doesn't like the smell of cooking cabbage. I love that smell because it reminds me of my grandma's house. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. :)

Comment: Hi Debbie! I have not seen that lighthouse. I have been to Split Rock which must be up in that area. If I ever get up there again I will have to look for it. What medium did you like to work best in when you were into art? I like to think of myself as a sculptor but paint more often. I have been substitute teaching which just makes me want to do my own art more. It also makes me tired and it is harder to get to your stuff. I like to hear that you are still being creative though. I really like the postcard exchange since it is seeing a slice of different cultures and what is important to them. We run to the Cities often. Is Wilson over by Baldwin? Thanks again and have a Happy Thanksgiving! -Julie
Response: I'm glad you liked the pc I sent to you. Thanks so much for the great rating! I have a degree in art with a concentration in interior design. The classes were quite different that those for art education, but I took five semesters of art metals because I loved it so much. I made a few hollow metal vessels and lots of jewelry. I also really liked ceramics. Wilson is 9 miles east of Baldwin, at exit 28 (highway 128). There is a nice Kwik Trip at our exit. I hope you have a really great Thanksgiving! :)

Response: Thanks for the great rating, and I'm so glad you like the pc I sent to you. To see all of the postcard books that the post office offers, go to usps.com, and click on "shop". They have 5 or 6 pc books, plus notecards sets, too. I hope you have a nice holiday, too. :)

Comment: Thanks so much for another great postcard. I had intended on writing but have be sick with the crud that last week. No, we don't have Mill End textiles around here. We are in the middle of nowhere and don't have too much of anything. That's the worst part of living out here. Oh well, not much you can do when you are farmers are own land. Hope we can swap again soon!!!
Response: I'm so glad you like the pc I sent to you. It's too bad you don't have a Mill End near you. One of my favorite web sites for fun fabric is connectingthreads.com. Have you ever checked this one out? Thanks so much for the great rating! I hope you are feeling better soon. :)
