Comment: This was the best journal I ever received in a swap...what fun!! By the way, if you are ever in WV, 30 miles from me is the Transatlantic Lunatic Asylum, the largest cut stone building in the western hemisphere, in Weston, WV..it is now a "tourist trap", reported to be haunted, and they have all sorts of spooky events there!! The building is enormous, made from hand cut stone - one of WV's many odd tourist attractions!! Sounds like you find a bunch in CA as well. Fun getting something mailed from Disneyland...I lived in CA for 2 years in the '60s and never got to Disneyland!
Response: That asylum sounds amazing!! So happy you like the swap and that Disneyland got it there quickly. I had to wrestle with it to get it into the little mailbox on Main St USA haha. Thanks for the nice comment! :)
Comment: Guess what was in my mail today?! Ok, so I LOVE the purse! I feel so honored by the thought you put into it! The teeny, tiny dancing skeleton buttons are my kind of thing and they will end up grooving somewhere in my home! The washi and vellum bag are favorites too! Thanks Des, I love everything!! xo Patty
Response: I tracked it this morning and was very surprised that they found it!! Kinda amazing actually. So happy you love the purse and things -- if you check the purse lining, you may notice some of the skeletons are leapfrogging haha. Thanks for being patient! :D
Comment: Too friendly cows? What did they DO to you?
Response: Hmm.. I meant to write "two friendly cows" haha. Homonyms, amiright!? They were called Peanut and Willie, rescued by a friend of a friend when they were 1 day old. I got to pet them and feed them bread! :D
Comment: Thanks for the silly ventriloquist postcard! I like all the patterns on it... I have always found them (ventriloquists) a little disturbing, truth be told. Any way this was a fun and satisfying swap.
Response: I think the patterns are what drew me to that card too. It was a toss up between that one and a guy riding an ostrich, which was more solid colors. Hopefully it didn't disturb you too much! :)
Comment: I love the card, King Tut! I saw that in Seattle I think. I can't remember!! Thank you for sharing your memories of Bill Peet books! I hadn't thought of them in awhile! The Westing Game is in my "To Read" pile! Thanks, Des! xo
Response: I re-read the Westing Game this year and still enjoyed it but not as much as when I was a kid and it was a BIG mystery, haha. Hope you like it. :)
Comment: OHHHH! Thanks! I love 11 - I understand about the star whale. I get goosebumps when he stands down the Atraxi eyeball! :D I'm a HUGE fan of 11 and River! :D
Response: Ah, 11. *sigh* I have actually fallen behind since 12 came around. I guess he's okay... but he's just not 11. :'( I guess that's what reruns are for. Still sad Capt Jack never met 11! Unfair!
Comment: Thank you for the fun tapes. I enjoyed the leaf themed card you send them in. :)
Response: You're welcome! Glad you liked the tapes and card. I scored 12 of those cards, in two different designs at a cool thrift shop called Grey Bears. They have a huge room with $1 books and tucked in the corner are PCs and notecards. I could live there.
Comment: What a beautiful fall pocket letter! And I loved all the items you put in the pockets. The bingo boards are so cool - where did you get those? Wish I could give you more hearts - thank you!
Response: I'm so happy you liked everything! :D My housemate got the bingo cards at a rummage sale or something like that and grabbed the whole pile for me because she knows I like game paraphernalia. Hope you see you round the 'Bot!
Comment: 3 samples were the same? Yes, Your correct 100 inches doesn't take long lol!
Response: I thought it was two that were the same. It tore while I was putting it on the card, so I put the rest on as another sample, just so that you'd be able to tell the approximate length and not hit the tear in the middle. :)
Comment: Fabulous to hear from you, my friend! So sorry the past few months have been bad, but I am glad you are back now!!! Co-worker drover me INSANE tonight..... :_: so I think Blythe doll therapy is in my future when I get home. Gonna wash their hair and play Star Wars The Old Republic MMO while it dries.... lol. Gonna make one of my dolls into Princess Leia and another into Rei. Cause I'm a nerd and its how I roll... lol
Response: Oh cool! You definitely have to post pictures of that! I only saw SW 7 once, but I think Rey's pretty cool. Planning on watching it again soon. :) Thanks for the sympathy. *hug*
Comment: What a delightful and awesome envelope and goodies! I LOVED everything. The pooh is so cute - can't wait to cross-stitch him and there should be more than enough floss and I think the gold/yellow will work fine. So happy with everything else too. Would give more hearts if I could.Thank you!
Response: You're welcome! It was super fun to put together for you! :D
Comment: Thank you so much for the awesome flip book and goodies. I love it! I loved reading about your Halloween activities and decorations. Sounds like a lot of fun 💜
Response: Oh, yeah, it's fun! Halloween is the only day I'm really allowed to scare strange children. It's my Christmas, hahaha. :D ;) So happy you like the flip-book; it was my first one and I was a little nervous. Thanks so much for the heart!
Comment: your note made me laugh I needed that today. thank you for going by my profile even though it was senders choice i appreciate that just hope I did not ruin your fun Take care :)
Response: Yay, laughter! I think we all need more of it. Totally didn't ruin my fun! I'll get to use my bloody, scary Hallo stuff soon enough. :) Thanks for the nice rating comment and heart! Happy Haunting... bwahaha.
Comment: Thank you for your recommendation. Unfortunately I tried Partials a while back and didn't like it at all. I can't remember why now. I didn't mark it as "not interested" so I must have tried it before I had that shelf, as I took it off my TBR. Maybe I'll give it a try again sometime, see if I feel different about it now.
Response: I just started a shelf like that too--it's called "nope", haha. :) Handy, that. Well, hope I pick a better one for you next time! I got recommended one on my TBR list, so....
Comment: Thanks for the spring selection of ATCs I am ready, bring on the bees and flowers and the ladybugs, etc!! Sorry about the rating delay, I forget the save rating button too often. I've got to work on that....
Response: We've had some rather spring-y weather here lately! Lots of birds tweeting. I'm much lower in latitude than you are though. Hope it comes for you soon! Thanks for the nice rating and heart.
Comment: Awesome PL, Des! I love it! I discovered Paper stitchery and I are not friends, lol, but I love how your design turned out!
Response: YAY! I will make paper stitchery bend to my will, muahahaha! (mine is an evil laugh) So happy you like it. :D :D The Batman fabric is left over from making curtains for our library, which is decorated in a super hero theme... because we are adults. ;)
Comment: Desiree, your envie is adorable! The paper and stamping is perfect together...and your attention to my profile is obvious! Yours is the kind of swap I tell my friends about, "Oh, I got the best swap in the mail today!" You deserve more than a heart! The PCs are fantastic...they're frameable! Thank you so much for being such a super swapper. Hugs....jinanne
Response: Thanks for the great rating comment and heart! :) I'm so happy you liked everything . *hugs*
Comment: Hi, Sorry I took so long to rate! I thought I had already done it.
Thank you for the nice honest review. I do think people continue to use the words of the generation they grew up in as they get older (but that is just from personal experience. 8-D ) The book is on my "to read" list and I will probably check it out at some point but may not rush since I am not a fan of the romance genre. Happy Reading!
Response: No worries, it's only been a week or so! Glad you liked my review even though I didn't love the book. Maybe you'll need a quick read for a NBRC challenge, haha! :)
Comment: Love the card and snippet from the show! So funny - thank you!
Response: Didn't have room on the card for this, but I was listening to a StarTalk Radio Podcast where Neil Degrasse Tyson was interviewing some of the scientists who consult on TBBT show, and they said that that bit of the episode was based on an actual experience... where someone actually thought a little laser could blow up the moon! Amazing. :)
Comment: ooh boy, you are really on top of things! I wasn't expecting to get the stamps so soon. I am going to have a ton of fun with these. Thank you so much for another great swap (:
Response: Haha, yeah, it's easy to send pretty quickly with no crafting element to the envie. :) Hope you get a lot of use out of them! I just got the Inkadinkado stamping Gear set with circle & oval (which these stamps work with), so I'm going to have some spirograph-type fun pretty soon! *hugs* :D
Comment: Thank you! This is absolutely gorgeous! For a new technique, it definitely turned out well. I'm amazed. I would love to use it, but I'm going to be selfish and put it into my Eeyore display cabinet. I love handmade, one-of-a-kind Eeyore items! Thank you so much for the amazing card!
Response: YAY!!! I'm so glad! And it's totally not selfish to keep it. I love that you have an Eeyore display cabinet. Thanks for the great rating -- totally made me smile. :D
Comment: Yes, we have been meeting a bit regularly in these washi bag swaps, haven't we. Well, you are sending to me a lot it seems. Thanks for passing along these latest ones; your mailing envelope was colorful & fun. You forgot a number in my street address, but luckily my mail person knows I'm the one in our neighborhood who gets all the pretty mail. :)
Response: OH wow, I'm so glad the envie got to you! These new meds, and my brain, they just don't get along. I shall double check addresses until I'm well clear of them. Whew! Lost mail is my nightmare, haha. Thanks for the nice comment and heart!
Comment: This was such a cool ATC! I love how looking through someone's profile can inspire you to create so thing beyond what yyour normally do. And yay, space! This is going into my "Keeper ATCs" file that I will never ever trade to anyone. Thank you so much!!
Response: Sweet!! :D Yay space! I knew you'd like it; happy that you love it. Thanks for the nice comment and heart. :)
Comment: oooh what a fantastic little package of goodies! The tag is, of course, really neat, the Jeb is fantastic and between the both of those it's inspired me to start a swap bulletin board in my art room. I love all the little spiders and bits floating around and the Clockwork Orange postcard and really I am pleased with everything because you hit the nail on the head with every part of it. Thank you so much for doing this swap with me ^-^
Response: :D You must tell me what is going on your swap bulletin board! Just, like, new stuff that comes in so it's up where you can see it? Or..? I'm intrigued! Thank you for inspiring the swap with your "up for grabs" Flickr (that I still need to copy, lol), and for being on my wavelength -- it's easy to send fun stuff to people with a lot in common! :) So happy we happened upon each other. Yay, California weirdos! :D :D
Comment: Hello Desiree,
Thank you for a very colorful and informative Pocket Letter. I could tell from looking at each of your windows what you loved. I appreciate the goodies you sent me and the nice letter you sent me. I will look forward to adding your Pocket Letter to my collection.
Response: I'm so happy you like it! Thanks for the nice rating comment and heart. :)
Comment: I love these cards, Des! I love funky tapes with animals and all that, so I loved that you used them in the designs :) Thanks so much!
Response: You're so very welcome! TBH, I made them before the swap assigned to make sure I was happy with them before joining. So, in this case, it's just luck that you got funky animal tapes. Good luck, I'd say! :D
Comment: Whaaaat!! I knew immediately who it was, you did an amazing job on this "The Hound" cross stitch!! I love it sooo much :). Your poor lil fingers, I know how much work you put into this...totally made my day. Thanks a ton!
Response: "Totally made my day" is one of my fave compliments! YAY! It was a bit of work, true, but worth it to make your day! And to have that 'art' now exist in the world, haha. :D Also, I can't stop using the phrase from the x-stitch! I say it all the time now, lol.
Comment: Awesome ATC, Dez! I hardly ever hand draw ATC's either, and yours turned out great! And the rotating disk with different fandoms- ingenious!
Thanks so much!
Response: I like the idea of moving cards/ATCs. It was fun figuring out. :) Did you see the weeping angel I did a...while ago? I post in DWF. It's also way down on my Flickr. Anyway, fun! Glad you like it. :) :D
Comment: Thank you. I love the presentation, the lovely letter and all the great goodies. Very impressed that you read my Profile and sent so many things I especially like. Five of the Playing Cards are new for my collection. Hugs and Happy New Year:-)
Response: Thanks for the nice rating and the heart. I always read profiles! I love making swaps personal; and was lucky to have a lot of things you like. Glad to add some to your Joker collection. :)
Comment: Hi Desiree! Thanks so much for the awesome Halloween 9-page happy mail and all the awesome stickers! I just love everything and very much enjoyed reading about what all you and your partner do for Halloween! It sounds like a blast, although I am not into real scary Halloween stuff, so I might be afraidy cat if I visited! LOL! Thanks for totally make this cold cloudy day a good one with this awesome Happy Mail! Hugs and Happy Swapping! ;)
Response: You're so welcome! I really loved that PL so much I almost didn't want to send it away, hahaha. And, honestly, there's so much more I could tell you about our crazy Halloween! I just ran out of space. :D Glad to add some happy to your mail day. Hugs! :D
Comment: It was soooo cool! I loved your letter and stamped images.thank you!
Response: You're welcome! I like doing the "all-over" kind of decoration sometimes and these wrappers (with so many of them, haha) really seemed to want to be plastered all around. Glad you like it! :)
Comment: Thanks for your swap. I loved The Martian too. Have you seen the movie yet? I enjoyed it til a part they changed that just wasn't good. I wish they hadn't toned Mark down too. They made him too PG for the movie. :(
Response: I liked the movie but, yes, the book was definitely better. Though, casting Matt Damon was inspired.
Comment: Great atc..love all the colors and so many layers,,, very creative,,I have never done a masterboard..in fact I had to look it up and now I have to try one..wish me luck...lol..Thank you and Happy New year
Response: Good luck! They are fun. On that one, I used tissue paper that is white with polka dots. The white totally disappeared but added texture. I recommend trying tissue paper! Glad you like the ATC. :) Happy New Year too!
Comment: I received the fun washi tape bags. What great selections of washi tapes to choose from! It was actually hard to choose there were so many colorful ones! :) P.S. Yes, you did it right by making a new one because you had one I'd already signed.
Response: Since I was sending to you again, I kicked myself for not writing down which tapes I put into the previous bags! Now I have notes about that in case I keep getting you, haha.
Comment: I love the ATC that youve sent! The cell idea is a wonderful one! I keep ALL bookpage ATC together in my binder. I am starting to accumulate quite a few and I am more than happy to add yours into the collection! THANKS!!!!
Response: Glad you love it! It was fun, deciding which cell to use and trying to get all the wiggly bits correct. :)
Comment: I received your washi bags today and you did great! I've already took out my 4 from each bag and added back 8 to each bag. FUN! I chuckled when I saw your note about no pink and then saw you had included a pink tape, and then you explanation about why you added it - because some people might like it. Well, I do and I took it. :) These swaps that @TallieH is hosting are my first experiments with "bag type" swaps too.
Response: Yay! I'm glad you took the pink out, haha. I got a couple rolls in a pack and have been trying to get rid of them. :) I've always been nervous about the "bag" swaps because I think they might not ever come home! But maybe someday I will get a nice surprise. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: Thank you for all the WONDERFUL stickers you sent. I did the same thing for my partner - I put them in the pocket letter holder. I'm having fun going through them and will definitely be using lots of them in my pen pal letters, on envies, etc.
Response: And here I thought I was being original and clever, haha. It did help keep them spaced out better I think. I had tons of fun going through all my stickers to pick some for you, so I'm glad you're having fun too. :)
Comment: Happy Mail Day! Thanks for all the wonderful swap items (artsy postcards & memo pads). Love the robots on your envie, too. Look forward to swapping with you again, Desiree!
Response: Happiness increase, go! Hah. Glad you got some happiness from the envie. I was so surprised that we hadn't swapped before, especially given how long we've both been here. :) Host more of these!
Comment: ♥ I love the colors you chose for me......PERFECT. The little fox bookmark has already found a job. I love that Washi. So far I have not found that design. The chocolate is gone but the memories linger on. Thank you so much.
Response: I have a matching little foxy bookmark, but mine has geeky glasses (round lenses). :) I love orange so it was totally great to get to make an orange PL. Thanks for the heart and appreciation. :D
Comment: This little bluebird is adorable! And I love the story of the pattern. I wish I had some of my Mom's cross-stitch mags from back then. The extras are super fun too! Thanks for hosting and for this happy little mail :)
Response: Yeah those old magazines are a hoot! Glad you like the little birdy! :D
Comment: You do very nice work and are very talented:) I apologize that you feel my profile is sparse, but I just don't have many dislikes and my likes are always changing, so I figure why limit myself. :) Thank you for a nice swap, you are awesome:)
Response: Thanks for the compliments. That's fair about likes changing. I guess I just try to send goodies I know will be loved, so I like a big long list of 'likes', haha. Happy you like the PL! See you round the 'Bot. :)
Comment: Sorry life got in the way of reading. Still, sounds like you got a good chunk of reading in, any is great. Perhaps you'd like "Bout of Books" better, since it's a week long read-a-thon, and you can just read whenever you want for that. The next one will be in Dec.
Response: Sounds cool. I will definitely look it up. :D
Comment: I finally got it! Thank you for taking the time to mail again, and oh, by the way -- I LOVE what you did with the washi and the card! It's beeyootiful! And thank you for the extras, too. AND, thank you for sharing about your loved ones' illnesses. I'm sorry to hear about your manic friend. I hope she is getting some treatment. My own mental illness is just on this side of manageable, and there are some days when I truly cannot function. That is partly why I signed up for Swap-Bot! Happy mail makes me feel better! Including yours! Thank you so much, and have a wonderful day <3
Response: So happy it got there this time! And that you liked it. :) Orange ftw!! Haha. My friend is supposed to get a shot soon, so hopefully that will help. Glad yours is mostly manageable. All we can do is our best; and trust me, I know that varies from day to day. *hugs*
Comment: Sorry for the late rate! I absolutely LOVE the PL you sent me! I love everything about it! All the goodies are awesome, but I especially love the RHPS tattoo and the Firefly envies! The tall skinny postcard is great, too! We went to Yosemite when I was younger, but I don't think we saw this particular waterfall. Thanks so much for the great surprise!
Response: Yay! The RHPS tattoo was from back when I used to perform with a shadow-cast (long ago). I think I got it at the 25th Anniversary convention in Las Vegas, circa 2000, haha. The Firefly envies were fun to make, too; I love cutting up things. :) Thanks for the nice rating!
Comment: Love the card, Des! I like the modpodge look :) I don't actually observe Halloween.... lol... so I will be going to work.. lol
Response: Good, good; glad you like it! I showed both cards to my partner and he sort of cringed; he's not into eclectic, haha. Well, I hope you at least get to eat some tiny candy bars while working. ;) :D
Comment: Thank you! You forgot to say which swap this was for, but thankfully I figured it out (I was in a lot of Halloween card swaps). The envelope was probably the coolest mail art I've ever received!
Response: D'oh! Sorry about that! Glad you sorted it out and liked the swap. :D
Comment: It was very clear that you read my profile and for that I am appreciative. I loved the items you sent especially the specific playing cards... Jokers, Queen of hearts and ace of spades. Thanks for the fun envie too. It always makes me smile to pull a devised envie out of my mailbox. Thank you for a great swap.
Response: Guilty as charged! I always check my partner's profile. :) So happy you liked everything.
Comment: First, my apologies for the late rating. Moving was/is hell. Second & way more importantly - what a beautiful start to a journal. It was fun to read and I wanted to take the extra time to not just quickly read to rate. I love the enormity of things we have in common. From Jeopardy, to knowing what it's like to live every day in pain, to our animated favorites and so much more. Thanks for giving me a glimpse into your life. I know your entries will bring a smile to the face of others. Awesome job!! ♥
Response: Aw, you're such a sweetie. No worries at all about the late rating; glad the moving is over! Yay, Jeopardy! Who do you think will take over for Alex when he leaves at the end of the season?? It can't just end!
Comment: Thanks - nice variety! The middle name is Elaine - great guess though and you did well with my user name. :)
Response: So close, haha. :) I always wonder about people's usernames. Mine was something else, but I left for awhile & got reset, didn't realize I could change it & signed 'user2637' on a bunch of ATCs, so I'm sticking with it. Glad you like the tapes. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: Thanks so much, lovely swap, such nice goodies, I love it!!
Response: Thanks for rating. I hope you liked the PL and goodies. :) // Oh, thanks for the update to your rating! I'm so happy you liked the profile-based PL I made you. :D :D And thanks for the heart! Happy swapping!
Comment: OMG life is cray-cray and I almost forgot to rate you for this, Des! Awesome PL! I love it :) Its always awesome to receive goodies from you and this is no exception! Thousands of hearts if I could!
Response: Oh, yay. I was beginning to worry a bit, but knew you are working weird hours. So happy you like it. :) Thanks for the thousands of hearts, haha!
Comment: First, the envelope was so beautiful! I very carefully cut the end and plan to include it in my one journal. Love how you decorated it, and the washi and stamps. The rolo you created was absolutely amazing and beautiful too! I love the colors you used, the bits of paper, and of course, that very special key! I enjoyed reading your answers too. Thank you SO very much for such a wonderful and lovely swap and for sharing your talent with me! <3
Response: Aw, you're so nice!! :) Glad you got it and love it! Thanks again for hosting a private swap. You rock! Off to read your PM now. :D
Comment: Thanks for the envie full of all my favorite stuff. It felt like it was my BD (thank you for the BD wishes.) I kept finding more and more stuff that made me smile. My smash books will be happy to be "fed". Thanks for providing a "happy mail" day for me.
Response: You're so very welcome! Sharing smiles is great! :D
Comment: I love the variety of goodies. I especially like the Cracker Jack box - I've only had over sweet caramel popcorn before, but this one was great. My second favorite is the sourish strawberry candies, with Annie's cookies being a special treats.
Response: So glad you like the Cracker Jacks. I was on the fence about sending them, but my guy insisted as they are very American, haha. :D
Comment: Oh, maaaan. You sent SO MUCH, hahaha! I love everything! Such a cool variety of playing cards, too! I really like the circular bird ones, especially, and I love that several of the items fit the woodland theme AND are Halloween-y! Thank you! =D
Response: Totally thought I responded to this! So happy we had such a great swap and spoiled each other. :D :D
Comment: Fantastic parcel of goodies - the peppermint patties in particular look delicious. 7/7/15 - Edited to add - I typed this rating ages ago. Just come back to it, and it looks like I didn't click save - I am so sorry!!!!! All the goodies are gone now, and they were delicious.
Response: No worries! That happens sometimes on SB, especially when rating from a phone-- it's happened to me too. So glad the package got there and that you like all the yummies. :)
Comment: Hi Desiree, Thanks for the wonderful Clue pocket letter! I love it and I love playing Clue. Love how you spiced up the edge and added the dice!! So clever!! Thanks for all the goodies, especially the brads, lighthouse pictures and buttons. OH OH and the cat paperclips, Donna scrabble letters! Thanks again for a wonderful swap! :)
Response: You're very welcome! So happy that you love it! And how great that you play Clue; quite lucky there. :)
Comment: thank you soooo much for the lovely selection of goodies, that you sent us. If I could, I would give you a handfull of hearts:)
We had so much fun opening the parcel (and trying a few things as well:)). I am amazed that you found oreos with reeses - what an amazing mix! Oh and all the fun watermelongoodies, yum yum yum!
Response: The Oreos were so very last minute! I was on my way out of the last store I went to (of like 6 stores) for all the candy swaps I was doing, and I had given up on small packages of weird oreos, but then I turned the corner and there they were! I was so excited. :) Glad you liked everything we picked!! Thanks for the handful of hearts. :D
Comment: After carefully opening the first sealed envie-so cute- I made my way in to another sealed envie filled with more sealed baggies with treasures for my scrapping! Thanks so much for the great stuff!!
Response: You're welcome! I thought the smaller envie would burst, so, yeah, I doubled up. :) Had lots of fun picking things out for you!
Comment: AMAZING! I love this PL so much it makes me cry!! The Cooks Illustrated pages were pos-i-tute-ly perfect (now I need to find one of those books for a Hannibal box I'm working on!!) and I loved reading them all and being throughly creeped out, haha. The ATCs you painted of Will and Hannibal?? Soooooo good! I love them to pieces!! The color scheme, the glittery blood spatter, the foodie washi tape--all perfection. There was so much hidden in the pockets for me to look through, it was fun to pull everything out and see what you had included. You put in a lot of work and I appreciate it all! I also liked finding a few of my other fandoms in there--it was a nice surprise! I am so glad I got you as a partner because this is definitely on of my favorite swaps ever from this site!! Thank you so much! xxx
Response: YAY!!! I loved that PL too; I almost didn't want to let it go! I hope the teeth made it through the mail alright and were just creepy enough. It's great to find someone who doesn't think I'm a freak for having plastic teeth, hahaha. So very very thrilled that you love it!! :D :D
Comment: This is by far the most fabulous PL I've received yet. Wow. And the personalized/profile-themed goodies just made my whole weekend. You are the best Desiree - thank you!!!!! ♥
Response: Oh, you're too kind! I'm so glad you like it; I was a little worried about using one picture for the whole background, but I did love the way it captured the vast ocean. It was a pleasure crafting for you!! I hope we get to swap again soon. :)
Comment: Love steampunk. Thank you so very much. Very cool ATC.
Response: I know, I peeked at your profile. :) So glad that you like it! :) :) And, on a weird note, the little hearts you put after your name show up black on my laptop, but pink on my iPod. Weird! I don't even know how to make those hearts!
Comment: Sci-Fi is the best! Orange and my sister are the best too! LOL! It's funny how you were "randomly selected" to send to both of us!!! I'm sending to her as well! Which kinda sucks because we have mostly the same stuff... LOL! Ah well, luck of the draw! Thank you for the blue samples. I don't have any of those, which is cool! And thanks for the orange one as well. Did I mention I love ORANGE!!! Hahahahaha! Hope to swap again soon!
Response: I ♥ orange too! :) We need to indoctrinate others to the wonderfullness that is the color orange!! :)
Comment: Desiree, thank you so much for everything! I absolutely loved the pocket letter and all the goodies! I appreciate you taking the time to closely view my profile to include my interests! That was so thoughtful of you to Angel for the earring swap! I absolutely love them :) The stitched pocket was definitely my fave! You used a lot of great techniques that I learned from and can't wait to incorporate in my future pocket letter swaps! Thanks again :)
Response: You're so very welcome. It feels really great to be able to make someone smile! Especially when I'm down (long story), and then it makes me smile reading nice comments like this, so it's win-win-win! :) I like the sewn pocket too, it was the first I've done, but definitely going to do more in the future! Happy swapping. :D
Comment: WOW!!! This was no ordinary pocket letter it was a piece of art, Christmas stocking, and creative genius all in 9 little pockets!!!! The angel gift was a wonderful act too, and PC's girl you covered it all!!! A million hearts and gold stars swap thank you so much :)
Response: I'm so glad you loved it! As you know, it was my first pocket letter, and so so so much fun to make. Thanks for the praise; it's encouraged me to keep doing pocket letters. :D :D
Comment: Thanks for sharing. I have the Dexter books on my to read list for quite awhile now, one day I should actually set about reading them :)
Response: I still haven't read the last one because the books get progressively worse, while the show stayed pretty darn good. I guess I need to get to that last book someday...but that also means that the series is really really over, haha!
Comment: Your 'stuff glued to other stuff' looks great. (: The Scarface card is really neat- I never thought about how fun it would be to recreate iconic movie posters on ATC's... thank you for sharing your process. Expect a proposition from me in the future I might want to try some gore to go with my usual nudity (:
Response: Thanks so much! I did Scarface for a "manly atc swap" and found my partner loved that movie. It was a fun challenge. :) Also, yay gore! ;)
Comment: Thanks so much for the great envie full of cards and extras! I'd love to know where you found such a variety. So many lovelies but I especially like the clear/see-through ones. *heart*heart*heart*
Response: Aw, thanks for the hearts! :) I honestly don't remember where I got most of them. I used to be a croupier (casino games dealer) and so my friends/family would get me decks for gifts. Pretty sure the duct tape and clear bird cards came from thrift shops. A quick google tells me that Walgreens and Amazon have some clear cards, though different than the deck I sent. Glad you liked them!! :)
Comment: Thanks Desiree for all the details. I just picked up The Maze Runner today. I was in Staples, didn't even know they sold books, & they had it on special for $5. Hope you are feeling better soon. I am filling my life w/ lots of distractions so I don't sit around all the time grieving & crying. Just trying to divert and lessen the time spent in sadness.
Response: Distractions are good. I think that's why I'm reading so much lately, haha. :)
Comment: Thanks for your swap! I'm sorry you still aren't feeling up to par, not getting much reading done. :( I hope you get back to normal soon. Miss you are SB!! :)
Response: Thanks. I think I just have too much to do around the house and with family gettogethers and such. My partner's family is big! I'm constantly behind on things! Like, I have half a giant spider in my basement when a whole giant spider should be on my roof for Halloween. Sigh. I miss SB too! Not the drama, but the swaps....
Comment: Desiree, thank you for the lovely letter. After reading you waxing eloquent about Green's work (seems like you are a fan!), I will have to check him out. I almost picked up The Fault In Our Stars for this swap, but at the last minute felt disinclined to read just another love story. I am regretting it now, more so because I didn't enjoy the book I ended up picking (A Long Way Down). Thank you for all the PCs you sent my way, I love them!
Response: Glad you liked the letter and postcards. Green does right love stories, but there seems to be something else going on in them too. Usually something sad. But, yeah, I really love his books.
Comment: Thanks for the great list and recommendations. I have read, and loved, "The Giver" and have "The Fault in our Stars" is on my hold list at the library. It seems you were able to decipher my reading style even without my Goodreads list!. My apologies for the late rating. Life has been in upheaval and I'm trying to keep up.
Comment: Thanks for the Books for the Book Club list and the recommendations. They look good -- I'll check some of them out. Apologies for the delay in rating -- my email system filed your message in Spam! Sigh....
Response: Thanks for rating. Many of us who do email swaps will put "Swap-Bot" in the title; that way it's easy for others to apply a filter and keep the messages from the Spam folder. :D
Comment: thank you for the email! sorry this is a bit lagged, but I wanted to spend some time on each email and personally respond! 1) I also track my reading on GoodReads. if I didn't, I'd be lost! 2) I would love if you recommended some of your fav sci-fi (other than ender's game :P)! it's a fav genre of mine.
Response: Cool! Thanks for the heart. I added you on GR so I can recommend some books to you. :)
Comment: That was an interesting set of answers, especially to me. You had some definite dislikes. I don't dislike fantasy at all, I read a lot of Koontz & King and I find those to be dark fantasy. Origins (Leakey) mostly discusses how our surroundings eventually create adaptation in us all to better suit our survival where we live. That's a lot of reading & I applaud you for doing so!!!
Response: The King I've read, I considered to be horror, but I haven't read many of his books. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: Thanks for sharing your survey; I enjoyed your answers! A few of your answers that I can relate to: I re-read "The Westing Game" not long ago and also enjoyed it; I also named "It" as the longest book I've read (ha); and I, too, have zero interest in "50 Shades of Gray" or anything by Stephanie Meyer (I'm slightly more open to "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings", but I still haven't read either and am not exactly rushing to go do so).
Response: I figure, I'm not that into fantasy & I saw all the movies (I think), so why read HP and LotR? ;);) Thanks for the nice comments and the heart! :)
Comment: I loved reading it. I actually read 'The Origin of Species' from Darwin, being a christian it is really brave I think o:-). You shouldn't be intimidated by it, I think it's easy to read. Allthough most of it is inconsistent with actual facts, there are some great theories on micro-evolution. Nice to see that there are some people who still like science. ^_^ I also am a sci-fi fan. :-p Thank you for sharing this lovely e-mail-swap. :-)
Response: I haven't heard that Origin of the Species is inaccurate; interesting. I'll have to research that. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: Thanks for your reviews. The Ally Condie books are probably not going to make it to my TBR & you probably just reinforced that. I do want to read Gulp or at least one of Mary Roach's books sometime! I hear she is just brilliant!
Response: Roach really is brilliant. I read Stiff too, and have Spook on my bookshelf!
Comment: Thank you for your recommendations. I can't believe the WH13 wasn't already on my TBR pile. I LOVE that show and would read anything I could, if I can find it sometime. Best show ever, I hate that it's ending!
Response: I know! I'm so sad it's ending too. All the best shows get canceled. :(
Comment: I love both of the books you recommended so you have sussed me out! I just haven't read any recently. I keep meaning to reread Holmes so I can see how they have updated the stories for 'Sherlock'.
Response: I love the BBC Sherlock too! Probably contributed to my desire to reading the books. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: great list! Are you going to see Ender's Game the movie? I love the book to much, so I don't think I'll be able to give the movie a fair shot! Also, really love looking at the literary themed tattoos, great site!
Response: I saw the movie already actually. I liked parts and disliked parts; it was still entertaining though. I love those tattoos! I have an asterisk, and really really want an ampersand. Only vaguely literary, but they are in my head. :)
Comment: ooh goodies! thank you, thank you! All the papers, stickers, and other assorted awesomeness are all things I don't have anything like, so this was an awesome envelope to receive. I have many things for my ATCs now :)
Response: Oh yay! I was hoping some of it would be novel. :) Thanks again for offering the private swap!
Comment: Thanks for your review! I picked the first book in the Dexter series for my book club read, so it was nice to hear about the later books and how they compared to the TV show (which I haven't seen...yet).
Response: Hope I didn't put in any spoilers, eep! Thanks for the heart. :)
Comment: Thank you for sharing your answers. I'm so nervous about the Ender's Game film. I re-read the book earlier this year, so I'm worried that it will be too fresh in my mind to enjoy the film at all!
Response: Well, I expect Ender's Game, the film, to be *horrible*, so if it's even marginally okay, I will be pleasantly surprised. :)
Comment: Thanks for your reading list. With Divergent, I agree Tris is annoying. In Insurgent, it's actually discussed, where many people point out she's not a nice person. If you read it, tell me if you liked it, I always check out about 60% through that book. I've also read Matched, which was ok, but not great. The last book in that trilogy is much better than the first, because the first book is like The Hunger Games without the games.
Response: I will probably read them, just because I want to know how the story ends. I think I've only ever stopped reading 1 or 2 books midway, and while these are series, I feel like they were written as though the reader shouldn't take a break.
Comment: Hope you're settling into your new place all right. You still got a lot read this month. I'm so sorry you didn't like A Wrinkle In Time more; I remember loving it back in elementary school. I agree about wanting to find out more about the outside world in Divergent; I wish we could visit all the different factions instead of just following Tris around, but I did like that book too. I couldn't see your spoiler for Matched after highlighting but I liked the book okay. The sequel was NOT my favorite, though, and I gave up on the series at that point. Hope you have a great time reading in September!
Response: Weird that the spoiler didn't show up, I just typed it in white font. I can send it over with the text in black if you like. :)
Comment: Love the ATCs, especially the embellishments on the green one :) Thanks for telling me about the stamp, otherwise I would have completely missed it, and just thought it was neat drippy gold paint.
Response: Yeah, stamping is scary to me sometimes because it's all-or-nothing! Glad you like them. That was the last of my wallet-eating-puppies embellishments, haha, and I think the dogs are ~2.5 years now. Packrat much? ;)
Comment: I haven't read Divergent, but the idea of the story sounds interesting, though it is a shame that you say the writing isn't so awesome. That can be very tricky, but for me being hooked onto a character, you said you liked Four, would be a reason to keep going with the series at least for a little bit to see if things improve. Thanks again!
Response: Yeah, it is tricky. I want to yell at the book, haha. Haven't started the next one yet; instead I read another disappointing YA dystopia. Maybe I just don't like YA books...? Heh. Thanks for the heart! :)
Comment: HEYY I REMEMBER YOU ;D Thank you for the Nine Inch Nails-ness! :D Blessings to you and I hope you have a great summer! :)
Response: I remember you too! :) Summer here this year is kind of a joke. We didn't get hardly any rain all spring but it's been rainy lately, and colder than usual. I live near the beach! It should be a little warmer, haha!
Comment: I remember reading A Wrinkle In Time (and the other 3 books) for my Psychology class in highschool but I can't remember the connection. I just remember it being a sci-fi/fantasy read.
Response: Yeah, I'm not getting the sci-fi yet... I mean, there's talk of a tesseract, which is science. I guess the fiction part is that it's used to travel? But with 'people' morphing into winged beasts... I'm thinking it's fantasy. :/
Comment: Thanks for the book recommendations! Turns out there were two I forgot to mark I'd read (I'm bad at remembering what I read years ago), so I can definitely say your recommendations are spot on :) They were The Handmaid's Tale and The City of Ember, to answer your ratings comment )
Comment: Thank you so much for joining in this swap! I love your ATC!!! How did you achieve the great depth and texture to the jellyfish? I need to try that sometime :) Have a great day!!!
Response: I did the background first (with water color paint +water) & let it dry, then did the jelly with no water added to the paint. I did the outline last so maybe that's why is has depth? Don't really know! I'm not a trained painter so I was just guessing. But I'm so glad you like it!! :D
Comment: I loved all your recommendations, thank you so much! I really miss Fringe as well, and can't wait to try out the Vegan cookbook. I wouldn't have thought to look for zombie poetry, bet it'll be awesome!
Response: Thanks for another nice rating! I hope you tell me what you think of some of them if you read them. :)
Comment: I'm adding most of those books to my "to read" list (the rest were already there). I'm especially looking forward to reading the ones by Mary Roach. Thank you!
Response: Oh, no, don't add all of them! Haha, I'm doing your GoodReads Recommendations now. ;) ;) I'll avoid any that I put in the email. GoodReads tells me "Your tastes are 60% similar for the books you both rated", so that's cool!
Comment: Dear Desiree, I have just received your beautiful swap! I love the Santa Cruz newspaper with the interesting articles, I'm going to read it today :) And thank you so much for including the extra items (beautiful notes and stickers)!:D Thank you for this swap! I hope we will swap again someday. And of course, I hope you will receive my envie soon too. Warm regards, Tanya.
Response: Thanks for such nice comments on the rating, and the heart! So happy that you liked everything. :)
Comment: Your ATC is absolutely gorgeous!!! This is what I was hoping people would be able to do... think outside the box to create such a fabulous ATC :) Thank you so much for taking part in my swaps and thinking they are cool :) And the labels are great! Just in time too!!
Response: Thanks for he nice words! :D. I like trying to think outside of just paper. Usually I end up at metal, haha, but it works out since I have a bunch around. So happy you like it! I was actually stumped a little at the start but it coalesced pretty quickly once I came across the book, which is in tatters, I've used so much of it!
Comment: I love the ATC, Desiree! I will take a picture of it and e-mail it to you when I get home from work tonight!
Response: Hooray! I hoped it wasn't too plain. The orange & green papers are the same, did you notice I lined up the starburst? Hardest part, haha. If we'd've had 2 partners, I was going to do a bowtie one too.
Comment: Thank you for the gorgeous Bridal Veil falls postcard! I apologize for taking so long to rate. I grew up in Central California, and Yosemite was a favorite vacation camping spot for my family, so it sure brings back memories!
Response: Though I'm on the Central Coast now, I grew up in Fresno & Clovis. It's funny how many people move from that area up to Oregon. We used to camp there too, but not too often. Glad you like the card!
Comment: Sorry for late rating, did not realized it was you. Thank you for the Halloween theme collage. While I appreciate the effort, combo of orange and black, would be nice to see mixture of different papers and texture because the only scrapbook paper makes it look well composed and too organized..... heart for the effort.
Response: Thank you for your input. I like things organized. And I used ribbons and a textured paper as well, though these did not make it into every ATC. There's some of the textured paper on the top of both of your ATCs, as well as the side of the one with the spiderweb ribbon, and a tiny bit of orange ribbon in the bottom right of your other ATC.
Comment: Hi neighbor, Thanks for the ATC I really like it.
Response: Haha, when I got the alert for the new rating, I thought, "I bet that's Rosalie, since she SO close!" And I was correct. :) Hilarious that swaps I sent many days ago haven't reached MN, IL, or WY but Cali swaps usually get there in a day. Glad you like the ATC!
Comment: Not many likes LOL I had Frida, Tigers, vintage, Cracker Jack, Gumball Charms, Jewelry, Asian, Cats, etc.....but I do love what you made! Thank you so much :)
Response: Perhaps I should have said not many likes that I know anything about. :) I didn't even know Cracker Jack existed in 1900! And a lot of people mean different things when they say 'vintage' so I just try to avoid that altogether. Glad something vague like 'birds' was on there tho. :) Glad you liked it too!
Comment: Hello Desiree, Thank you for the neat Lock ATC, it was pretty interesting to read how it came together and where you got the of it from. Very creative thinking on your part. Thank you for sharing your talent in this swap with me. blessings, ellie
Response: Thanks for such a nice rating! Made me smile. :)
Comment: What a great story behind the super card. I loved reading why you used each element. The brass shavings are awesome! I love that your carved stamp is detailed with the dash lines to give it more shape. For a newbie at that you are doing great. Thank you for sharing. And congrats to IM!
Response: Aw, thanks for all the nice words. The lines on the stamp were a last minute addition. I wasn't sure if they'd ruin or improve it! I would pass on the congrats, but I'm sure he'd blush. It's adorable. :)
Comment: Great card! I think my favorite bit is the garbage bill envelope.:-) (What do people do with all that cool stuff who aren't artsy?) Love the description, I think every swap should include a description of why/how it was made. Thanks so much!
Response: I hoard those envies and use every bit! Sadly, I'm moving soon and will be changing garbage companies. :'( Alas. Glad you like the card. :D
Comment: I didn't think your letter was short at all! It was a great synopsis and well done for getting through a book which must have been really tough for you. My brother died on March 31st this year, so I understand your sense of shock and guilt.
Response: I guess March 31st isn't a great day for either of us. :( I'm sorry for your loss. *hug*
Comment: Thanks, Desiree, for the fun package I got from you today! I loved it all, and I think my favorite thing was that old magazine article about the airplanes, and all their parts! My dad was a fighter pilot in the AF, and we always loved planes! It will make some nifty collaged ATC's! Thanks for it all!
Response: Oh, that page was from whole book of plane diagrams! I've been cutting them up for collages for awhile. If you want to PM me the kind(s) of planes your dad flew, I will try to find them and mail them over to you. :) Glad you liked the package!
Comment: Thanks for your reading list. I read young Zaphod once, a long time ago. My ex picked up an all in one hardcover of all of Douglas Adams Hichhicker's books, and that novella was in it. Can't say I remember any of it though.
Response: Zaphod was flying a ship underwater. That's really the most interesting part of it. :)
Comment: WoW you are fast.... I so enjoyed getting your puzzled ATC today....thank you thank you ..... you have CREATED a big SMILE!
Response: Hehe, I usually make the ATCs before partners are assigned if I can, especially if I'm unsure that I'll be happy with the result. I'd never used puzzle pieces before and didn't know if my glue-and-cut method would work. It had actually been sitting, waiting, for awhile. :D Anyway, I'm so glad you like it!! Yay!
Response: If you have a laptop or netbook, you can get an extension in Firefox called .epub reader and then read those types of files in the browser. More cumbersome than a Nook or iPod, but it could work. :) I'm looking forward to Green's other books. Thanks for the nice rating, my 300th heart!!! :D:D
Comment: I'm glad your new device is working out for you so well. I don't think it's something that would work for me, but whatever gets us reading's gotta be good, right? I'm SO glad you liked LfA! John Green is such a great writer; I highly recommend all his books and stories! :-) Very cool that you found a new-to-you Adams story as well! I love making discoveries like that. Happy reading!
Response: If I had known the big plot point in LfA, I would not have read it, due to experiencing something similar with my best friend. (trying to avoid spoilers) But it was really good anyway, just hard to read. I'm going to skip another of Green's books due to the synopsis saying something about the se subject. Alas.
Comment: Thank you for your crazy long postcard! I had to laugh, I sent a ridic stamp, and you send a loong postcard. lol. I loved it! Let me know if you are interested in doing swaps in the future. :)
Response: Haha, awesome, right? A friend of mine bought me a whole book of those! I have to trim the ends to fit them into envelope. :D I try to keep swaps to the US for postage reasons, but I will definitely keep you in mind for things upcoming. Take care!
Comment: love them, love them, love them. i don't even like cuties but this one is just wonderful. i love the way you made the hands touching the buildings in 3d. just wonderful. the scary one is really great to. love the nail polish and the silver bats. thank you so much, there great
Response: Aww, thanks. When I told my housemate the title of the monster one, he literally lol'd so I figured I was doing something right. :) Thanks for the heart! I was beginning to get worried they had gotten lost; so glad they made it there safely. :D :D // Update: I was confused about the nail polish comment, so I went back to look at the card. The red blood drips are actually stickers that I purchased, though I see what you mean about them looking like nail polish. :)
Comment: Thank you so much for the great pdf file. I learned so much from it! I'm also vegan, mainly because of health reasons though (I'm not allowed to eat animal products) and I found so much information in your email. Unfortunately the prices here are really different and I don't have a lot of money to buy some of the things (I spend typically 7$ per week on food), but there was still so much to learn from the email. It really shows people that vegan people cook and that it's not anything bad to be vegan :). Would definitely show it to people who annoy me about not being able to cook because I'm vegan.
Response: Thanks for the lovely comment. I'm glad you liked the file! It was fun to make. There's a new vegan group on SB called Vegan Voices, you should join! We mostly just chat on the forum; it's really nice. :)
Comment: I'm not sure I could ever give up paper books--I like the weight and visually seeing progress I've made in its pages. I hope you continue to enjoy stardust! Is it the illustrated version with Charles Vess? Enemies and Allies sounds fantastic! I'd never heard of Wheat Belly, but my mother is allergic to wheat (she can't even touch wheat flour) so I'm used to the sight of tomato sauce on rice and PB&J on rice cakes instead of bread :-) Thanks for sending your list! It was fun to read!
Response: I love paper books too, but my hands can't take holding them for long. I'm so happy to be able to read for hours again! Already finished 3 books in May on the iPod! Stardust wasn't illustrated, but now I will find one that is to flip through. Thanks! :)
Comment: thanks for re-sending. i am going to make those cookies! my daughter has been a vegetarian for 12 years now. she just turned 20 so over half her life so i am excited about the meatless monday website. thanks for swapping.
Response: I'm literally eating one of those cookies RIGHT NOW, hahaha! I was cleaning out my freezer and found half a batch of dough, so I baked some up. The dough freezes pretty well too, just fyi, and I never want to have a full batch around cooked because I'll eat them all. :D Glad you like the Meatless Mondays site.
Comment: Awesome hat! I have been begging my sister to make me one ever since she learned how to knit and crochet, but I can honestly say this is the first hand-made hat I've ever received. I am proud to model this replica of 'the man called Jayne['s]' hat.
Response: Oh, hooray!! I was worried that maybe you already had one, as I know many Firefly fans do. I'm so happy to have knit you for first handmade hat. :D :D
Comment: That is the coolest postcard ever to get on earth day. I love it so much I kind of don't want to plant it but I need to see what will sprout!!
Response: Hahah, totally didn't even remember it was Earth Day when I was sending that! Hilarious. Glad you like it. I'm not sure what will sprout either, but I think it's the generic "wildflowers". :)
Comment: Thanks for the swap! Vermillion Lies kinda reminded me of Evelyn Evelyn! Also the Meatless Monday thing was super interesting! I'm already a vegetarian, but now I have facts and things to try and help others "see the light" :)
Response: You're welcome! Funny you should mention Evelyn Evelyn, I fist saw Vermillion Lies when they were touring with Amanda Palmer! So that all makes sense. :) Also, yay veg-heads! There's a new group called Vegan Voices which welcome vegetarians, just fyi if you want to check it out.
Comment: Hello Desiree, thank you so much for your answers. You got me hooked on some, and will definitely check them out: the book, the TV show, and the movie... wow! OH!, and the cookies... thank you.
Response: The book is a MUST for sci-fi fans, and definitely before the movie comes out in November. :) Hope you like them!
Comment: Thank you for your list! You certainly recommended some things Im sure I would have never heard about. Also I agree with you on Meatless Mondays, thats definetly the way Id want to live my life someday.
Response: Yeah, I'm a bit eclectic. :) Hope you try out Meatless Mondays! Even one meal helps!
Comment: It was fun reading your answers for this swap. I actually gave the same answer as you did for would you rather be able to eat anything or have 3 restful hours of sleep. After having health problems for a while you really realize how important sleep is!
Response: Sleeeep! I can sleep 15 or 16 hours sometimes, but usually it's about 9. Doesn't always seem restful though, alas. Thanks for rating!
Comment: Finally got it! :) our views on food are very similar.
Response: Glad it came through. Yeah, food in this country is insane. *shakes head* And most people don't seem to care. Did you know 1 in 3 kids born in the year 2000 will end up with Type II Diabetes (in the US of course), and that generation is the first that has a lower life-expectancy than their parents? Crazy days....
Comment: I've been meaning to read The Handmaid's Tale for ages. I'm so glad to hear you liked it! I'll have to bump it up in my priorities list. I'm so glad you included your "in progress" books too! Thanks and sorry again for the late rating. Silly spam folder! :-)
Response: :) A word of warning though, The Handmaid's Tale is a dystopia, so if you're prone to getting sad over books, use with caution. ;)
Comment: Wish I could give more than 1 heart! You really made my day!! I LOVE the Halloween die cuts!! Thank you sooo much for sending me such wonderful items! Oh and I absolutely LOVE the hello card!!! You made my day!! <3<3<3
Response: Yay!!! That was the *whole* point, right?! :D Glad that I did my job.
Comment: Had to go digging for your email, it was hidden in spam :( studpid email. I love the Handmaid's Tale, it's one of those books I pick up and read again every few years. It's interesting that you looked into keeping chickens, I've thought of doing the same thing, but I worry the wildlife would get to them :(
Response: I always put "Swap-Bot" in the title, as do others, hoping that it will be noticed easier. Glad you found it! I was worried about wildlife a bit too, but if they are fenced and you make sure to close the coop at night (they will go in on their own), then it should be okay. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: I've yet to read any Margaret Atwood but I have 'Oryx and Crake' on my immediate to-read list. :)
Response: Ah, I don't have that one, but I did put The Robber Bride on my list after finishing the other Atwood book. I'm usually more of a sci-fi fan, but trying new things lately. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: I love your list so much, with the comments, and the way you printed each day on a different color. I'm going to keep it handy on my desk, because a lot of things you mentioned remind me of things I can feel happy and grateful about, too. Thanks also for the extra goodies, especially the Calvin & Hobbes stamp!
Response: Aww, thanks so much for the nice words (I needed them today). :) Calvin is awesome; I'm still trying to figure out a way to play Calvin Ball and have it actually _work_, haha!
Comment: hahaha I love your answer for the meaning of life! I nearly used that one myself. lol For me, 42 is not only the answer to the meaning of life, but the answer to "what is the number on your box of hair dye?" Makes it so nice and easy to remember so that I don't buy the wrong one!
Response: Haha, awesome! :) Did you catch the other Douglas Adams reference? I'll give you a hint; it's within 4 questions (up or down) of the meaning of life question. Thanks for the heart!
Comment: I couldn't help but laugh as I read that you note typos in a book. I've actually posted typos on author's forums or FB/Twitter lol. I'm going to check out Ethical Chic & a few others you've mentioned. Fast Food Nation is a great book. Believe me you're not missing out on anything by skipping 50 Shades of Grey. Its terrible and incredibly repetitive. I didn't even finish the first book. The Twilight series was really good though. I'm not a big fan of the movies.
Response: I posted a HUGE error that an author made on her forum (basically the crux of 4 books was bad science). She responded, not too happily either. I really loved those books until that blatantly wrong bit, so disappointing when Google returned the correct answer on all the first page of results. *sigh* Happy reading!
Comment: I cannot tell you how much I LOVE THIS! Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much! xoxo
Response: Yay!!! I was hoping you would! My favorite part is the red eye. :D :D I was so excited to get it to you, that I forgot to scan/photograph it. If you have a minute or two to snap a picture for me, I'd be grateful. I try to keep pix of all my ATCs. I will PM you my email address, in case you can! Thanks.
Comment: Thanks so much for the great answers to the questions! I have chickens in our backyard(we have for YEARS) and it's absolutely wonderful! They are easy to own and care for. Definitely a good investment! :D
Response: IIt's amazing how many people I've "met" who have chickens! So cool. I think they might be a bit too much for me--we have deer, and thus deer-ticks here, which I really don't think I could deal with. :( Alas. Anywayz, thanks for the heart! :)
Comment: Thanks for the awesome Boris Karloff The Mummy card! I love that movie. Thanks for taking part in this swap. If you want to host a handmade one, I'd be up for it. I'm pretty new at handmade cards, so I don't know that I'd feel comfortable hosting, but I'd certainly try my hand at making one.
Comment: Thank you so much for the most outstanding ATC! I absolutely love it, and am very proud to have it in my collection. Thank you also for the smashing black paper.
Response: Yay! I really liked that one too! It was hard to send away! I've been hoarding that weird holey paper (it's actually wall tape, like is used when putting up sheet rock, that someone from SB sent me) but I guess it was finally time to use it. You're welcome! :):)
Comment: Thank you for the comment -- it's nice to get to know some other TD members. I LOVE Dirk Gently. I'm also a big fan of The Long Dark Tea Time... I will definately have to check out the audiobooks though. And Pomplamoose makes me smile -- I'm kinda jealous you've seen them live. I like driving to their music. My favorite song is Expiration Date. But I think to fully experience them, you have to watch the Video Songs on youtube. The talent amazes me.
Response: I will totally check out the Pomplamoose videos on youtube, thanks! :):)
Comment: Thanks for the links! I heard about Laura Nyro from my boomer parents, but they tended to play other singer songwriters around the house so I haven't heard that song before. I agree about the first Dr Who. It's a wonder they were allowed to make any more... ha, I could only watch half of it.
So... the soymilk maker sounds GREAT. Have you ever tried making tofu at home? I really want to learn how to do it.
Yes, I loved Amelie. I saw it also when it came out. I think about it every time I see references to Luncheon of the Boating Party. I liked Delicatessen too. Have you seen that one? It is by the same director, if I remember correctly.
Response: I thought Delicatessen was pretty good, but it was no Amelie! I haven't made my own tofu yet, but do plan to try to in the future. What I find fun with making soymilk is all the pulp (called okara) that's leftover from the soybeans. It's a great egg replacer, and good for making veggie burgers, but my favorite thing to do it dehydrate it and mix with almonds and nutritional yeast for a parmesan substitute. It's awesome!
Comment: It's true...I am a very happy person. I have to be. I believe it's what is keeping me alive! Oh, I have serious dark moments, and I LOVE "the dark." I tend to lean towards dark art, and I love my dark Goddesses!
OMG that video ROCKED! I LOVE him! The ending is EPIC!
You have Pan...LOVE!!! I'd love to see it.
Yeah, I really enjoyed doing that ATC. Bathory was quite the killer.
Oh, true crime books, I think In Cold Blood by Capote is amazing. I love it. There are so many out there, it depends on the style of the writer I think. I like writers that really do their "homework." I want to know the smallest detail. It's the brain that compeltely intrigues me. I want to know why this person's brain allows them to do something, when most of us know it's not right.
It was wonderful to meet you too. I look forward to seeing you around Swap-bot as well! BTW...LOVE your "user" name too!
Response: I will see if my library has any Capote; thanks for the suggestion! I used to have a "real" username, but I was off SB for a year (or two?) and they ran some weird thing on the database so the inactive users all got changed to "user####". I didn't notice when I came back and started making ATCs and signing them with user2637. By the time I realized it, there were a lot of ATCs out there, so I decided to keep it. Plus, I like the anonymity of it! :):)
Comment: Wow! Such thoughtfulness. I think my favorite gifts were the tea holder (so adorable and useful) and the Veg carrot car decal (my car is COVERED in veg stickers, so that was perfect). Every single thing was perfect, actually. I loved everything. You are so crafty and generous. Happy Yule! :D
Response: Thanks for such a nice comment! So happy you like everything! I wanted one of your early experiences here on SB to be a good one, so I stalked your Etsy list for clues. Plus spoiling vegans is fun! :D
Comment: Oooh! I love it - and the extra printing is even creepier. My husband and I used to tease that our greyhound's front teeth were the little alien set, because they were so tiny for a big dog. Thanks so much - I hope you get to see at the very LEAST the first and second movies in the series, the rest were kind of... eh.
Response: Oh, I've seen I think, the first 2, but it was years and years ago! I remember some of them, but will definitely watch them again. Thanks for the nice comments; I'm so happy you like it. :):)
Comment: Thanks! What a surprise to be partnered with you ;) I wouldn't have been happy with those words either-- But I think you did a great job with them. I can just imagine being in that situation... very funny. My words were piano king and Italy
Response: Thanks! Like I said, it was all that came to me. King and Italy could've been hard too.
Comment: Dolls? Well that's what I get for making this swap...I'm sure I can do something with this...and yeah, I'm thinking creepy too!
Response: Haha! I read your profile and someone sent you a link for creepy dolls, so I figured you might like them. Also, you should YouTube Jonathan Coulton's song called Creepy Doll. It's, well, creepy! :)
Comment: I will definitely try the pizza recipe! The cookies sound good too. I didn't know until I saw it that there were baking substitutes for eggs.
Response: Oh, there are lots of ways to substitute eggs! Yogurt, tofu, flax seeds, banana. During the big Wars, US housewives just omitted eggs from most things. I usually use the Ener-G powder because it works and is shelf stable. Plus you get the equivalent to 500 eggs for like $6. :)
Comment: I am going to have to remember to ask for already rolled out vegan pizza dough at whole foods. I have several dairy intolerant/allergic friends and this would make group meals even easier.
I tried a Lara bar for my day and i was surprised at how good it was. I don't always like such things.
Response: Yepyep, it's not the BEST pizza dough, but it's certainly the easiest, and it's yummy enough. :) Glad you found some new things through the swap!
Comment: Thank you for sending - I enjoyed reading your story, it's a fantastic one. I'm pretty fascinated by the Master Cleanse too! I totally know what you mean about cooking - mine, and my knowledge of healthy eating has much improved. I don't suppose any of your vegan heroes has anything to say on the subject of fish substitutes? I just mention it because my resolve is starting to crack around the edges :p Thanks once again, apologies for the late rate, and I hope this finds you well
Response: I know there are commercial fake-fish products. I found some pretty good ones at Asian markets. Also, I've made fish sticks with pressed tofu cut into long rectangles with a sheet of nori cut to fit on one side, and battered with tempura batter, and fried. They are pretty good. :)
Comment: I've been meaning to read Christopher Moore for a while, so thanks for the book! And I loooooooooooooooooooooove the bookmark!! =D Though the guy with eyes in his hands kinda scares me...haha =P Thank you!!
Response: Yay! I'm glad. Chris Moore is hilarious!!! I love his vamp books, and Practical Demonkeeping too. Hope you like it. :):)
Comment: Thank you! I loved your story, and I completely agree about veganism helping me to learn to cook, and to make the kinds of things people tend to buy from grocery stores... have you ever tried making your own soy milk/tofu? Time consuming but soooooo delicious and rewarding! Also, super jealous of your vegan celebrity encounters, my goodness... Thank you so much for your email <3
Response: I don't mean to make you MORE jealous, but I found a brand new soy milk maker for $25 at a thrift shop!! It's my most favoritest appliance! After making the milk, I take the okara (left over soybean pulp) and dry it out and combine with some stuff to make a parmesan substitute. It's yummy and full of protein. :):)
Comment: Deiree, I am almost certain I rated you when I received that journal, and yet here it saying nope I didn't lol. I did receive it and I'm sorry about the delay in rating you!! Many blessings! :)
Response: No worries! That happens to me sometimes too. Thanks for double checking. :)
Comment: This is a GREAT card. I love it, thank you!
Response: You're welcome! :D I realized after sending it that I didn't put his full name on there, but I think that's ok. I also realized I didn't take a picture of it. :( I try to photograph all my swaps. If you've got a digital camera and can email me a couple snaps, that would be double-rainbow-all-the-way!! Let me know how the cross stitching comes along!
Comment: This was so fun...I was racking my brain, I couldn't figure out insect...I kept going with bee or bug or wings :-) I finally typed everything out and got it right..ALICE! Thank you for the great matchbox and ATCs ♥ They Rock ♥
Response: I thought I had a ladybug stamp for that one, but when I was making it, I couldn't find the darn thing! Nor my ant stickers. That probably would've made it easier for you. But I'm so happy you got it right!! :):) And thanks for the heart; that's super nice of you for my first matchbox. :)
Comment: Oh...My...Gosh!!!!!! Girl, you are an ARTIST!!! This is the sweetest little booklet cover EVER!! Absolutely beautiful! I love the cover colors and art, it is just a joy to behold. You really deserve a kazillion hearts for this pretty book and I will treasure it always. Thank you so very much, can you tell I'm pleased? LOL! xxooxx Patti =D
Response: Cool! Those were my first APCs ever and all the ones I've seen were sparkly and stuff, so I wasn't sure if they were too plain or not. So happy that you love them. :):) I hope you stay in the swaps and I can get a page from you!
Comment: What a great ATC! I love Scrabble, I just don't have anyone in the house to play it with. Thank goodness for computers. ;) Love the 3D effect on it, too, it was beautifully crafted. Thank you so much!!
Response: :) Yay! I play on Facebook sometimes; I don't have anyone around here to play with either. Glad you like it. :)
Comment: I seriously LOL'd when I saw the ATC. I love it! I feel so spoiled too by all the extras! I wish I could rate you higher. Thank you for making my day!
Response: *whew* Glad I didn't spoil your childhood, lol! It was really fun to put together and figure out how to construct with the flaps. You're welcome for making your day! I love it when I get to do that. :D
Comment: Desiree - that was the greatest package! My daughter had a huge smile on her face - she loved the movie and the fact that we had never heard of it even though it was horror AND set in AK! She is waiting for her BFF to come over later this week to watch it with her because they're horror movie watching fiends! Thanks again -she loved it, and you are so sweet!! ♥
Response: Yay! I was a bit concerned about the R rating, but I figured she's 17 and a lot of horror is R. So happy that it made her smile. Let me know what she thinks of the movie, k? It's not *great* horror, but more like campy. :):)
Comment: Wow, I wish I could give you more than one heart!! What an amazing swap! I love both the ATCs, and all the postage stamps too. And almost especially the sticker on the back of the envelope ... ! Brilliant! ;-) Thank you so much. :-) *Update by request*: The sticker says 'UNIMPORTANT'. :-D Of course, I totally disagree that it was unimportant, but I love the sticker. ;-)
Response: That was maybe my favorite ATC I ever made (the Buffy one), so I'm glad you liked it too, and everything else. :) Now I'm going to *blush* and say that I don't remember what sticker I put on the back of the envelope!! *eeps!* Can you remind me? lol *Update* Oh, hahaha! Those stickers are fun. There's also an "unbreakable" that I've been too afraid to use, in case a postal worker tries. :\
Comment: Partners again, but in reverse this time, YAY!! I don't mind the ATC you sent AT ALL. I go for nontraditional so for me it's better this way. Of course I can't add it to my ATC book BUT I have it proudly displayed with my other gifts from Swap-boy shelf. :) I love it ! I think you're very very creative and I cannot say thank you enough. Happy to have been your partner a 2nd time. Perhaps we will be lucky to swap again in the future! xoxo
Response: I'm sure we'll bump into each other again, as we seem to join similar swaps. :D You have a Swap-Bot shel:! What a great idea! I might have to find room for one myself, I'm amassing so much cool stuff. Thanks for the compliments and you're very welcome. *huggy*
Comment: Thanks for the extra magazines! So many new ideas to consider! :)
Response: You're welcome. I was actually destashing my mags and books when I saw this swap, so it was good timing. And I'm glad it finally found it's way to you. 3 weeks! I wonder how many places it went on the way.
Comment: Love the variety of recipes. Can't wait to try them out. I will certainly comment on your profile after I give one of them a try. I'm going to try the taco soup and strawberry banana dessert first. YUM!!!
Response: I tried for variety, but I'm kinda boring in what I eat. Soup and casseroles = fewer dishes, lol. vegweb.com is where I get most of my recipes and there's some great stuffs on there! :)
Comment: Thanks for the quotecard, Desiree. Was interested to hear A. A. Milne say something so controversial. Surprised he felt so strongly about the Old Testament (!) and hope it wasn't veiled anti-semitism, alive and well in England at the time.
Response: Well, if you've read the old testament, it is pretty horrible! :) Glad you liked the card.
Comment: oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! this turned out so beautifully! you did a really wonderful job on the stitching, and i love the color! what an amazing swap! now i have to decide the best way to show it off... thank you so much :-)
Response: You're welcome so much! :) I'm glad you like the colors I chose for you; I thought that blue really popped on the black background. Hope to see you in more stitching swaps. :D
Comment: Thank you so much for the ATCS!!! They are great! And, the 4400 books are awesome! I am going to really enjoy reading those! I appreciate all the extra effort.
Response: Your welcome! There are two more 4400 books, but they fall within the timeline, not at the end as these two books do. You might want to find the other two first, b/c they are chronologically first, but it really doesn't matter to the story. :) I miss The 4400. *sigh*All the good shows get canceled....
Comment: Out of Gas is your favorite ep? They did a good job with combining suspense and back story exposition. I think my favorite episode is War Stories. But I love all of them. It always makes me sad in the voiceover at the start of each episode when Mal says "Here's how it is: the Earth got used up."
Response: I thought I replied to this already, but maybe SB didn't save it? Weird. Anywho, yes, Out of Gas is my favorite. I love the back stories and also Mal being a bad-ass and a sweetie too. :)
Comment: Wow! What a letter. And, despite the fact that I believe god, or something folks call god, we are very much alike in our beliefs. I loved your ending with the quotes proving I'm an atheist. You're right! However, as my priest friend says, "tell me about the god you don't believe in. I probably don't believe in him, either." LOL! Thanks.
Response: You know, after I sent the letter I thought of so much more to put in it! But it was already long enough, lol. :) I like the quote from your priest, and I bet he's right too. Thanks for the comments. :D
Comment: So freaking cool! I love it! I know you aren't happy w/ it, but jeez, I think it's great. Thank you!
Response: Oh, I'm so glad. I was really worried and having an off couple days nearing the end of this swap...well, an off week really, so I thought most of the things I did weren't up to par. But you loving it is the important part! :D We're all really our own worst critics in the end, right?
Comment: First of all, the ATC is Wonderful! ( and not at all awkward!) Secondly, your story is so amazing, I'm glad you shared it! It sounds like one of those once in a lifetime events. And thirdly, thank you for the cut little Halloweenie brads!!
Response: I'm so glad you liked everything! I love that ATC and it was great typing out the story too, brought back the memory for me, and made me smile. :D
Comment: Thank you for the notecard - I enjoyed reading it! The one that sticks out in my mind is #8; I've been watching some good movies and shows lately, getting myself wrapped up in them! I'll ponder the rest of your faves with my cup of tea in the morning. =]
Response: Bad editing/continuity ruins the "fantasy" of shows for me. There was this part in Titanic that snapped me right out of that world. I won't tell you which part because then it's all you'd ever see. :)
Comment: If I could leave more hearts I could :) Thank you so much for all the time you put into this and reading up on my wishlist; I love everything so far and will have lots of fun opening up the other packages!
Response: Yay!! :D It was tons of fun finding/making you things.
Comment: Thank you so much for the time you put into this. I love how we randomly connect on the Torchwood front! Jack + John = YES. :D You really made this swap personal. I was happy to receive it. Hope all is going well with you.
Response: I'm glad you liked it. :) I hadn't journaled in awhile, and it was good to just jot down my random thoughts. I've since bought a pile of new journals. I'm finding more and more Torchwood fans on here, which is awesome. :D
Comment: I do a lot of swapping and it was hard to find you without the name of the swap, but I liked you stamp. Thanks.
Response: Oh, sorry about that! I've never seen another faux postage stamp swap here, but totally spaced on the fact that other people swap elsewhere. Also, I was leaving for vacation the next morning, so my mind was busy. Glad you found me though. :)
Comment: The email didn't go to my inbox, so maybe it went to my spam. (I'm searching!) I read your blog until then and I was very impressed! I'm a vegetarian but I've always wanted to be a vegan. I thought it would be hard for me to bake but seeing how you could subsitute almost everything, I just might have to try this recipe!!!! Thanks so much for joining!!!!
Response: I try to cut and paste the email addresses to make sure i don't do a typo, so maybe it got caught in the spam. Glad you found the link though. :) I do tons of vegan baking. You should search Amazon or your local library for Isa Chandra Moskowitz. She's got the coolest vegan cooking and baking books. :):)
Comment: thank you for sharing such a personal part of your life with me, I wish you all the best...the work is hard that is for sure ;)...i LOVE the Amigurumi it is the first one I have ever held and I think you really captured emotion in the face and segmented body colors...I will cherish it :) have a great day
Response: You're welcome. I'm glad you like the amigurumi! :D
Comment: Loved your journal!!!!but keeping your secret sealed. if you would like to see my barbies they are on my blog at sherartdoll.blogspot.com and thanks for info on photo shop- I am planning on taking a class at a community collage.
Response: Thanks! I will check out your blog. Take care. :)
Comment: that is possibly the coolest thing on earth. I will cherish my softie scissors forever. :D
Response: Oh yay!!! You're so sweet! It seems that going off-the-beaten-path is nicely appreciated here on SB, which is great because I seem to be drawn to the weirder side of crafting. Glad to find kindreds here. :)
Comment: Very cute little plum! So well-made! Thank you!
Response: You're welcome. Who knows, maybe you'll have a whole bowl of fruits soon. :) Oh, and thanks for saying it's well made! I have no real point of reference and I halfway made up the pattern. Also, it's my 2nd softie ever. hehe.
Comment: I love the concept, but I debated on the heart. The only reason I didn't give a heart is because the "Buffy The vampire Slayer" logo fell off the card (probably from the glue.) I'm excited that youre making ATCs, but please be careful on how you glue. make sure everything is stuck on well before sending. <3
Response: well, crap-o. :( It seemed secure enough and I let it cure over night even. Thanks for letting me know; I'll employ a different technique next time. And here I was worried about the stake. heh. Glad you like it anyway! :)
Comment: I had been asking my vegan friend to give me her pumpkin muffin recipe and now I have my own.Thank you very much.
Response: Oh, goody! :) Though those are more of a cupcake, so they are sweeter, but if you cut down the sugar and omitted the icing.... Also, the original recipe calls for 1/2 cup chocolate chips, but I think they're overkill. ;)
Comment: This was SO quick and amazing! You bought 3!! So super sweet of you :)
Response: Like I said, since they were emailed and I didn't have to pay shipping, I got extra. :) I ordered the anatomy brushes for myself, but the store didn't have the steampunk listed anymore. :( I emailed the store owner though, so hopefully I can get those too. They are sooo cool and I would never have found them if it wasn't for this swap, so thanks!
Comment: Girl, I feel so lame! This package was amazing and I didn't even write anything in mine! Both earrings are adorable (I'm wearing the owls now) and the mix is so good... I mean sad. =( thanks a ton.
I almost put "breathe me" on your cd but it was cut at the last minute for cd space.
Btw, I love phantom planet too! And I have also met them. Great people! =)
Response: Don't feel lame! I saw that you're kinda new here so I wanted to add extras as a "welcome to swap-bot". :) I'm glad you like the mix! Haha re:Breathe Me. :) I haven't heard any of Phantom Planet's new stuff (after Jason left); is it any good?
Comment: Oh my gosh! I love everything! I've seen Sleepaway Camp but not the other movie on the dvd and I'm very excited to watch it. Thanks for the recommendations too and for the present! I don't already have that so I can't wait to read it!
Response: Good, good, at least you haven't seen one of them. Glad you like the present and that you didn't have it. I love that universe!
Comment: You've got to be kidding?! This was the most awesome stuffed envie ever!!! I can't believe all the fantastic goodies you crammed in there AND how wonderfully thoughtful they are. I love each and every thing you selected. This was really amazing!! Swap-bot, HELP! I need to give this girl 2 hearts!!!
Response: Yay! I'm glad you liked it all. Making people smile is why I do swaps. :D
