Description:

My button stash needs refreshing, so let's swap some.

You will decorate (or re-use one that has been sent to you) a small matchbox (the one I have in front of me has 40 in it) and then fill it with nice buttons. Make sure there is a nice variety of colours, sizes and styles. Add a couple of vintage ones or ones shaped like things to make your partner smile.

This is international. Newbies with full profiles and swap ratings pending welcome and for the others ratings above 4.5.

Make sure your decorated matchbox is full of nice, interesting buttons, send on time and you will recieve a 5, add some little extras and you might get a heart.

No requests, lets make this surprising and exciting.

Happy Swapping!

I don't have enough buttons to join this swap, but if anyone wants to do a private swap with me where you send buttons and I send something else you like, such as music, fabric, yarn, or ribbon trim, message me. :)

What an awesome idea for a swap! I heart buttons! I collect them since I was a child (I started with my old granny's buttons). I'm a newbie but I have a full profile and I have ratings pending. This is my first matchbox swap too! What is the size of the matchbox? (in my country we have several sizes, I need that info please, so I can find one with the proper size). Thanks!

The matchbox I have is 3.6cm x 5.3cm x 1.1cm and has 40 matches in it. here is a link to flicker photo groups which show some great matchbox swaps. They also give you an idea of the size of the matchbox we will be swapping.

Hello, I'm new. I'd like to sign in, may I? It would be my first matchbox, but I'm very crafty ^^ so I'd be glad to try! And, obviously, I LOVE BUTTONS! Thank you.. ^^

too funny I just left a message about a different matchbox swap (but I'm a newbie & didn't qualify for that one...) then scrolled down & found this one! looking forward to participating!

Can I just make sure I've got this right - the matchboxes we're using should be about 5.5cm by 3.5cm and about 1.5cm in depth? (I've seen the templates but they seem to be quite shallow.)

It'll be my first matchbox swap so I want to get it right!

InceyWincey 02/11/2008 #

Doh! And only now do I see the measurements in the comments above. Sorry :O)

Thanks for the opp. to do this swap - buttons are like sweeties - you can't get enough!

button button who's got the button?

I recently found Swap Bot and I have signed up for a couple of swaps that welcome Newbies. I would love to be included in this button swap. I have never decorated a matchbox before but I checked out the site mentioned above and I can't wait to try it.

This is my first match box swap as well, the samples are awesome! BTW, if my matchbox is of a slighly smaller size (5.1cm x 1.0cm x 3.6cm), would it be alright that I just filled up as much as possible and add in a few more pieces of buttons? Meanwhile, I check out for bigger matchboxes ;)

Jox 02/15/2008 #

I am sure that would be fine cheekzy.

Small matchboxes seem to be shallower these days!

Wow, there are 50 people in this swap, how exciting!!

tintaelinha 02/21/2008 #

I can only find big matchboxes. The one I sent is 11cm x 6cm x 2cm!

cheekzy 03/ 1/2008 #

I managed to find a bigger size matchbox which I think will meet the recommended size, but I will still add in some extras as some of the buttons are of bigger size & the matchbox cannot contain so much :P

edie3 02/ 5/2010 #

Oh, can I join? Never have done a matchbox swap, but would love to join!

edie3 02/ 5/2010 #

oh, never mind, just saw the date!
