QnT Hand Embroidered Butterfly Blocks #1

January 3, 2013 thru January 31, 2013

Let’s start a collection of embroidered butterflies during this year of the butterfly! You might want to put these blocks all on one quilt or use each on a different project. I love butterflies and hand embroidered butterflies are some of my favorites!

--one partner each month

--one 6 ½” (or larger) embroidered butterfly block

One partner should receive from you a block that is at least 6 ½ inches square and has at least one butterfly on it. Blocks should be on plain white background or on white on white print background. You may add other things with your butterfly as long as you have at least one butterfly on each block and only use the color options for that month. Feel free to make multiple butterflies on one block.

Be sure to fill up as much of the 6 ½” block as possible leaving at least a ¼” seam allowance around the outside.

January = at least one red butterfly (only one shade of red)

February = at least one blue (medium to dark blue, NO aqua or teal or turquoise) butterfly (one shade of blue)

March = at least one green butterfly (any shade of green, or multiple shades of green is fine too. I love the look of variegated greens together!)

April = at least one pink butterfly (you may use one shade of pink or several shades)

May = at least one purple butterfly (you may use multiple shades of purple or all one)

June = at least one yellow butterfly (as bright and cheerful as you can get the yellow!)

July = one red butterfly, and one blue butterfly on a white background (two butterflies on one block)

August = a multi-colored butterfly or butterflies (this block can be as many colors as you want and you can put as many butterflies on the block as you can get)

September = teal, aqua or turquoise or all three on one block (you may make the butterfly all one color or a combo of all three colors)

October = orange and or peach and or cream butterfly (you may use one or all three colors on this block)

November = black butterfly

December = red, green, blue and gold butterfly (be sure to use all four colors in some way on the block – either one red, one green, one blue and one gold butterfly, or a combination of all four on one butterfly)

Enjoy!

any suggestions or questions are welcome!

note: only the colors designated are to be used....so the January red block is only red, no other colors - but you can use any shade of red you want

....May block you can use as many shades of purple as you want but only purple on that block. etc!

Can I request a 6 1/2" block, think I'm going to add the borders, use this block for the Attic Window, will go along with one of our other swaps, thanks
