Description:

Welcome to our new members! As my first swap for the group, I want to encourage you to try writing a haiku. Your haiku can have the 5-7-5 syllable pattern, or use the "one breath" method instead, where you use fewer than 17 syllables so that the poem can be recited using a single breath.

For inspiration, visit your local library and try to find one of the following books:

Writing and enjoying haiku by Jane Reichold

The Haiku Handbook by William Higginson

Haiku in English by Harold Henderson

or Haiku by Patricia Donegan (for kids, and quite fun!)

So write one haiku this month, and send it in a card, on a postcard, in a letter, or in any snail mail form you wish to your partners. One haiku to two people.

So who wants to haiku?
