Description:

Hi fellow beginners!

I have never made a deco before, but I super want to! I figured there might be someone/s in a similar boat. So. Welcome to the swap. Or maybe you've never tried it, or maybe you've made a few and you want something laid back and relaxed for your next project.

For this swap, make a deco. Any theme, or unthemed, however you want to play it. Not too fussy on measurements, so long as you put the effort in. If you'd like to receive it, then you're good to send it! Send 1 deco to 1 partner and feel pretty darn proud of yourself.

4.5 rating required, or newbie with a good looking filled out profile. I'm going to give us some time on this one, so don't stress too much about deadlines. Once the sign up time is complete, there will be a week to send out the book. Swap is international. :) PM me with any questions or concerns!

EDIT! Hi everyone, back with more info. As far as definitions of "deco," I was operating under the definition: a small booklet with the cover decorated by "the owner." The owner writers their name/address/email/etc in the back. Can be themed or unthemed. It's sent person to person and each person decorates a page according to the theme (or however they would like, if there is no theme!) and when the book is complete, it's sent back to the owner.

As far as pages, from all my reading, I can't seem to find a standard. Between 6-10, I would think, and that's how I plan to make mine.

I will definitely be hosting more deco swaps if this one goes well :)

Sorry for not having everything in the original swap, I hope the updated information helps everyone.

I have no idea what deco is and google gave me a number of pics on this search. It would be very helpful if you explained what it is and may be gave some links. Thanks.

The Swap Bot Glossary says: Decos – A deco is similar to a friendship book and there are a wide variety of types. It is a bound book of pages which are sent around the world. The person that the book is “for” is usually listed on the cover and when the book becomes full it is sent back to them. Each person that receives and signs the deco will decorate one page according to the theme of the booklet (if there is one) and put their postal/email address and sign their name. Typically, each entrant in the “deco” must use one full page to express themselves. Glitter, sequins, feathers and other scrapbooking supplies are frequently used in “decos.” Despite the artistic expressions used in these types of friendship books, the basic rules of passing the friendship book to person to person is the same.

They sound great I've also never made one does this mean that you will also be holding other swap in the future to keep the deco's in rotation.

Ladybird2490 10/27/2013 #

Sorry another question how many pages should it have and also from your glossary description do you put your own name on the front as it would be returning to you at the end when it's full is this right?

sunspot 10/27/2013 #

Thanks @smadronia that's pretty much the description I was going for.

Yes @Ladybird2490 I hope to host more of these ones. And yes, names/email/mailing address/some wayh for the last person to get it back to you goes in the back/inside front cover iirc.

I hope my edit cleared some stuff up @OrangeMama sorry for the oversight.

I have a question regarding the deco ... How big are the pages? Or is that up to the person making it? I am very interested in making one and participating in this swap. I just don't want to do it wrong!

sunspot 11/11/2013 #

Definitely up to you, @Astridsdream

sadieszbby 11/12/2013 #

I am really interested and would love to join! But I just want to make sure I understand because there are fb's, traveling notebooks and Im learning about decos! Lol all which I want to make! So I would make my own book to send and have my info in the back of the book to get sent back? Do I I decorate the front and 1 page when opened or? Sorry! (x

sadieszbby 11/12/2013 #

Oh one more! When yu say they deco their page do they leave all there info on it too or just deco it out?

sunspot 11/12/2013 #

@sadieszbby For your deco, you decorate the front cover and put your contact info in the back. When you're working in someone else's deco, you decorate one page (make sure to sign it!) and leave all their information in tact. You'll pass it along to someone else who will also do a single page and eventually, when all the pages are decorated, it gets sent back to the original creator -- the one who did the front cover and put their contact info in the back. Does that make sense?

sadieszbby 11/13/2013 #

Yes thank you!!! (: im joining lol (x super excited!

I made my deco book, and put an address label on the back cover, on the bottom, and left room for comments on the rest of the back cover. Comments are not required, but people are welcome to leave a word or two. I will put my name, location and email on the painting itself. i want to try to paint some fruit. People can choose their own topics when the Deco gets to them. Cheers,

I've had a few questions, so I want to officially confirm that I'll be hosting some more of these easy breezy deco swaps in the future so we can all keep these books moving!

sunspot 11/13/2013 #

That sounds awesome, @StarMouse

RecycledSoul 11/14/2013 #

@sunspot ..Just to be clear...when I receive this first deco book from my partner, I decorate it then send it back to the owner right? Never done this before and VERY excited!

sunspot 11/14/2013 #

@RecycledSoul For this swap, you'll make a deco and mail it to your partner. I'll be hosting another swap to match this one shortly after this one where you'll decorate the deco you received this round and send it on (to whoever you're matched up with for that one - probably not the person who originally sent the deco to you). :) Does that clear it up?

RecycledSoul 11/14/2013 #

Oh ye-ah...I would have totally screwed things up! I am clear now that I decorate the one that I receive, then wait for a new partner to send it on to them. Gotcha! Thanks!

sunspot 11/14/2013 #

Good stuff :D

craftybeaner 11/16/2013 #

This look awesome, this will be my first deco and my first swap on here in over 2 years! So excited to get back into swapping and I am glad I found this before the deadline. :)

sunspot 11/17/2013 #

Yay, welcome @craftybeaner glad you found us.

shalvorsen 12/12/2013 #

@Sunspot ---- I have NOT received my Deco yet and the lady who was going to send it said she sent it. That was before t-giving. What should I do?? I really want to get started on decorating the book and passing along.

craftybeaner 01/12/2014 #

my partners account was deleted.. I haven't received anything. :(

sunspot 01/12/2014 #

I'm on it, @craftybeaner I'll investigate and PM you.
