Description:

We all create, send, and receive mail art day in and day out, and for most of us, there is a common element among most of the art. Almost all of it has some form of paper. The envelope you just grabbed out of your mailbox is probably made of paper. It probably has a paper address label on it, and it might contain some paper goodies or a note on paper. Maybe the postcard you just got is a paper collage, and the postcard backing is cereal box cardboard. In any case, there is a lot of paper.

In this swap, your challenge is to go without the paper. You will create 1 piece of mail art for 1 partner that will contain NO PAPER. You will have to get creative here, but I have seen some pretty cool paperless mail art. Your art can be either a handmade postcard or a mail art envelope, and all mediums are welcome. This is sender’s choice, and your art can be any shape or size, as long as you think that it will survive the postal system. Just a reminder: if the art that you create happens to be extra bulky, thick, lumpy, or unbendable, you will be charged extra. If you are unsure, I would recommend taking your piece to the post office. The only element of your art that can be paper is the postage stamp that you use to send it!

I have given a fairly long time in between the sign up and mail by dates because this will require a little extra creativity. Hopefully we all have fun with this, and if it gets a good response, I hope to do these monthly or so. Happy creating!

No paper whatsoever! You can make an envelope out of something other than paper(plastic, fabric, duct tape...) but you cannot use a paper envelope as the base. It's hard, but very fun! Thanks so much for asking; sorry if I made it confusing :).
