Description:

Hello Ladies! We haven't had a Pocket Letter swap for a couple months, so I decided to host one... with a twist!

In this swap, you will begin a Traveling Pocket-Letter for one lucky swapper! Please note- this is round 1 of 3; Ideally, you will want to/ need to sign up for all 3 rounds to get the coolest pocket letters ever... lol.

Just like in a normal Pocket Letter swap, you will need a 9 Pocket Trading Card Protector- you can usually find these at a scrapbooking store or at an office supply store.

After obtaining your Pocket card protector- you will design 3 Kawaii themed pockets! The front of your pockets need to be decorated; you can use things such as sticker flakes, deco tape, washi tape, memos, images from the internet, etc. Please note- this is not a quick 5 minute sticker slapping pocket design; please make something you will be proud of.

The back of the pockets can be lightly decorated if you like, or just patterned/ colored paper. Please put your swap-bot id on the bottom of the backs of the pockets you create so that the person who ends up with the completed pocket letter in Round Three knows who created what pockets!

After you have created your pockets, you will need to fill those pockets with 3 "goodies". Here are some common "goodies" for your reading pleasure:

  • Sticker Flakes (branded)
  • Mini Memos or Coupons (branded)
  • Washi or Deco tape samples
  • Tea
  • Mini Kawaii Envies ( branded or made from branded memos)
  • Sticky Notes or Page Flags
  • Die cuts
  • Kawaii bandaids
  • Whimsical/ Kawaii paper clips
  • Sticky Jewels
  • Embellishments
  • Cabochons

After you have your 3 pockets made and filled, fold the Pocket Letter up, place it in an envie with a note with the swap name and your Swap-bot id, and send this sucker to your partner!

Partners- once you receive, please rate the sender, and put this baby in a place you'll be able to find it for round 2!

Since we don't know who will end up with these Pocket Letters once they are complete, the pockets and the goodies inside are sender's choice.

If needed, I will angel this swap... but only after you rate your partner a 1;
Any flakers will be automatically listed in FOPS as a special gift to you.... :P

I am not expecting to have to angel this, however... lol.

Wondering when Round 2 and 3 will take place? Below is an estimated time frame for your planning purposes!

Round 1- Sign up by August 22; Send by Sept 5 Round 2- Sign up by September 12; Send by September 21 Round 3- Sign up by October 3; Send by October 12

If you think that a week between when partners are assigned and the swap needs to be sent is too short, please let me know and I can adjust these dates.

Questions or suggestions? Please post below or message me!

I would love to join but I'm still out of the country, I will return on August 29th. Do you think it's possible to push the sent date to the 31st or 1st?

iamred 08/15/2015 #

i would also love to join.. i am moving next week tho.. and should be in my new place by the 20th.. i second with kasini, are you able to push the send date out a little further? <3

starrycat 08/15/2015 #

Sure can! I pushed the send date out to Sept 5 and edited the estimated dates for round 2 and 3 too; Do you gals think it would actually be better to set 2 weeks between partners and send by? I was doing about a week since we're not creating all 9 pockets per round

Going on my watch list for now. I've never done a pocket letter, but this sounds manageable since I'm only responsible for 3 pockets at a time. =)

As for the next rounds, it really depends on when everyone sends out the previous round. I know with the nesting envies swap that @sebastian122 did last year it went too fast sometimes. Maybe you can have the sign-ups like you've listed and wait to assign partners until everyone posts that they have received the previous round?

I've never done a pocket letter before, either, and I'm a bit confused. The decoration is on the outside of the pocket, right, not on an atc that slips into the pocket? Just wondering how to make the decoration stable so it doesn't ripe or fall off, get wrinkled, etc. I'm very visual and I'm having a hard time seeing the details. Thanks

@Kraftylady777 no the decoration for pocket letters goes inside the plastic pockets; it is like an ATC; you would make 3 of those, and then place them inside the pockets; the backside of your pockets would then just need to be something simple like decorative scrapbook paper cut to size with your ID on it. The main difference between a pocket letter "front" pocket design and an ATC is that your pocket designs do not need to be as stylized as ATC's can be, unless you want to make them like ATC's; they are the same size, however- a pl insert and an ATC.

There are lots of videos on YouTube that show how to make PL- here is the link to Janette Lane's video, who I believe came up with the idea: https://youtu.be/vfjtpv4-Ads
In her video she did put stuff on the outside plastic and she also didn't make her PL inserts quite like what is required for this swap, but it is still a good starter video to watch.

@ Tiggerkitn- that is a good suggestion- I can check to make sure everyone has received their PL for R2 before assigning partners for R2 and the same for R3
