Rummaging thru the USA - no internationals please.

This swap is for anyone who considers rummage saling a competitive sport! However, you must have a rating of 4.5 or higher. Newbies are welcome with a COMPLETED profile.

You will have one (1) swap partner for this swap.

Swapers will list a "wish list" on their profile of items they are looking for or shop for on a regular basis themselves and then your partner will have to find at least one (1)item on that list at a local re-sale location to them - for their swap partner.

No more than $20 can be spent and the swaper that gets the most items on their partner's "wish list" wins the Fab Finds Diva Award - along with her partner. (I will send actual awards to you both.

Please make your "wish list" items generic enough that at least ONE (1) can be found and also keep in mind that the easier you make it for your partner - you also increase your chances of winning too!!!

I would further like to request that everyone post a message with a listing of 3-5 of your favorite all-time places to second-hand shop . .a particular thrift store, consignment store, community yard sale, church sale, flea market, etc. I also ask that you say a litte bit about the places you mention (location, why you love it, date held, etc.)

Please contact me with any questions. HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!!

Wow - this is my kinda swap :0) I LOVE hitting yard sales, flea markets, thrift and antique shops!

Updating my profile now with my "list"

Fav places to shop - 1st is yard or garage sales, I just troll neighborhoods, 2nd is flea markets - there's a big one here once a month, and 3rd is consignment or non-profit shops.

Sounds like fun:) It's bad timing for me. Hope you host the same swap again later!

CherryBlossom 09/ 5/2008 #

Oh I hope you host another one later! This sounds like fun, I just don't get into town right now enough to do this! Late winter time/spring I do!

hoosiergirl 09/ 5/2008 #

Guess my profile is too full it won't let me add my "wish list" - hope it's okay that I post them here: *old buttons *old aprons *vintage hankies *old glass bead jewelry **old sterling silver charms(this is a biggie)especially state charms but any are appreciated *take a look at the rest of my profile - there are lots of ideas there, as well.

I hope that you will run this swap again in early summer; it's just too late in the year for sales in Wisconsin; we're all busy getting ready for snow. . . smile

Great comments and I'm glad there is excitement and interest in this. Yard sales are not the only way to shop second hand . .thrift stores, flea markets and/or churches many times have indoor rummage sales all year thru.

Thanks again and happy thrifting!!!!

I'll update my profile once I'm done thinking about all the cool things one can find for me at yard sales/consignment stores/etc!!

These are my favorite things to do! I love rummaging!

LuldaCasadaga55 09/21/2008 #

I like garage sales, church flea mkts/bazaars/and I love thrift stores...one of my favorites is within walking distance and I try to get there at least once a month.

Things I look for: small china plates from Bavaria, germany, poland, England. Old cook books; I like the local ones with the plastic spirals. Also, anything funky...old buttons, jewelary...old note cards. Things that I can use in my swaping trades. Small unusual dolls. Miniture things to put in my shadow boxes. Oh and anything with hands on them!! :)

I'm sure I will appreciate anything that you send. Good luck and happy saling!!

I LOVE yard sales! Can't get enough of them and feel very incomplete when I don't go to any on the weekends! LOL! I go to them to look for puzzles, pants for my daughter (size 5-6X), books of all sorts, and interesting finds like swizzle sticks.

I go to a consignment store here in town to look for great pieces of costume jewelry or dress up clothes for my daughter. I've come across some amazing gloves, boas, and glasses that my daughter plays in all hours of the day!

And then I am always on Craigslist, looking for craft supplies. Can't go wrong with supplies that someone can no longer use. :D I've picked up all sorts of goodies on CL for free of cheap! Beats driving an hour to Hobby Lobby!!

lindsay 09/21/2008 #

I've got a lot on my plate right now, But I'd love to do a swap like this in a couple of months! I love me some flea markets!

LadyT 09/23/2008 #

Keep the thrifting comments coming - I love them and can SO relate . .especially to not feeling complete if I don't hit a yard sale or two on a Saturday! I don't have many addictions or vices but thrifting is absolutely my numero uno (lol)!!!!!!!!

tessasessie 09/23/2008 #

I love thrifting!

I love to go to the big, local flea market. They are held every weekend, both Saturday and Sunday until 5pm each day. They always have great vintage sellers.

Another place I love to go to is a thrift store (called Retails) where all of the money they make goes to animals. They even have sale every day they are open. (http://www.animalkind.org/retails.html)

There's a great vintage thrift store in downtown Raleigh that is so much fun to go to. They always have funky items. I'd look for any excuse to take a trip there!

In addition to all these places, there are yard sales, and there should be more this time of year since the temperature has finally cooled from the 90's. There are lots of other thrift stores throughout town too. And, I love to run through good will and check out the bins and housewares.

I live in a small town with only one Goodwill store but the pricing is high. There used to be a Salvation Army thrift shop but it closed. My daughter loves yard sales & there are usually alot on Fridays & Saturdays here. I also browse Craigslist & love to go to the annual yard sale at Teen Challenge. Everything there is donated so the prices are really good. There is a Catholic Church thrift shop I poke around in from time to time. The Quilt Guild has a show every other year & there is a members booth that sells alot of odds & ends. I have picked up several things from there. Karen in California
