Description:

I'm hoping to get enough to join this quilt block sqap for the duration (6 months) so we can all have enough to make a whole quilt!

The idea is to have 4 partners for whom we will make 5 9-patch blocks in specific colors, 4 to send 1 to each partner and 1 to keep--not specific in the fabrics (except all cotton quilt fabrics), but more scrappy to use up some stash!

The first swap will be for 5 blocks of reds--in the quilt pattern, these will be the upper left one and bottom right 4.

2nd swap will be for Oranges, 2 for the row after the first red, and 3 for the lower right after the 2nd red--look at the image to get the idea.

We'll do 5 yellows, 5 greens, 5 blues and 5 purples, so you can start anytime since it's sender's choice which scraps you have to use. The blocks will be 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" when ready to send.

Here is a general pattern to follow if you're not familiar with the 9-Patch. 5" charms will work if you have them to use, just trim them to 4 1/2" and use a 1/4" seam allowance.

The swaps will have signup dates as the 9th of each month and the 29th for the send-by (even February--it's a Leap Year!)

So sign up, and start scrapping!

I've added some time for others to join.

Would you rather send one block to each of 4 partners, making 5 and keeping one??

It would be most interesting to send one block to each of four partners -- if you have four people join. The final quilt would be more scrappy and interesting.

If everyone agrees with you and me @junemoon I'll change it. Postage wouldn't be much more, I send one block in a 6x9" envie for 49 cent stamp, so a tad less than 2 bucks.

I changed it to four partners, if we don't get enough people, I'm going to cancel and start all over with something else, unless you two have any ideas?

twobluecrows 01/15/2016 #

Yay!!! We have 4!!!

twobluecrows 01/17/2016 #

I was oping for one more--4 isn't enough, we'd only have three partners, but I guess we can still make the five and just send three.

junemoon 01/18/2016 #

Okay, so it's three partners ... I'll start sewing.

For that easy method, start with two blocks 1" larger than you want to end up with to take care of seam allowances. For instance for this swap, start with 13 1/2" squares of fabric.
