Description:

This swap is named after the TV progamme Ready Steady Cook. In case you don\\'t get it where you live, let me explain. On the show two participants are given a spend limit and get to bring in a bag of ingredients. Two chefs then compete to make the most delicious range of dishes from those set ingredients (and a few storecupboard staples) in 20 mins flat.

So, here\\'s my idea. When you sign up post six ingredients in the comments section below. Also note any food allergies to avoid.

When you are assigned your partner check their ingredients and send them the following:

  1. At least three recipies using at least three of their ingredients. (I mean at least one from the list in each recipie). That should give you flexibilty to combine the ingredients or to ignore some.

  2. A suprise cooking related gift. It can be something very light so international postage is not prohibitive. For example, a food themed ATC, a bookmark for your cook books, a packet of spice, measuring spoons, a homemade pot holder... anything at all food or kitchen related.

My idea is that you can post an ingredient you have always wondered what to do with, or somthing you always cook the same way and would like to be more adventurous with. It can be a spice or an ethnic ingredient but try to pick somthing that would be internationally available.

If as a partner you have some great and suitable recepies you have tested - great - send them. If not use some of the links below and search out somthing you like the sound of. That way you get to try a new dish and then swap it - double new experiences!

The usual warning applies- more than one no send or a rating of less than 4 without a very good explanation by message to me will see you banned. Newbies are welcome. This is international

I am going to pick: mango, cinnamon, cod (or any other white fish),lemons, chickpeas and honey.

No nuts or pork please

Craftycakes 02/24/2007 #

tuna, plums, sweet potatoes, ginger root, tofu and chickpeas(garbonzo beans)

No pork or butter please

MrsQ 02/24/2007 #

Does each recipe have to use 3 ingredients? Or is it at least 3 ingredients in total, between all 3 recipes?

ukquilter 02/25/2007 #

I mean there needs to be at least one ingredient from the list in each receipe you send. If by chance you can have two in one dish well great but that\'s not necessary.

Sounds fun!

My ingredients are: beans (any kind) millet potatoes frozen spinach onions tofu

I am a serious from-scratch cook, so throw your most complicated recipes at me!

This sounds like a lot of fun and puts a little spice into your cooking. Thanks for thinking up a neat swap.

No red meat, cream sauces, uncooked onions, turnips, brussel sprouts, spinach(unless it is in a leafy green salad), and white foods(white bread, white rice are examples)

I would really like the recipes I receive to be from-scratch type recipes, but ones that are fairly easy.

Thank you for listening to my requests.

Here are my ingredients: dried apricots, pork chops, corn, cinnamon sugar, and lemons

This swap is almost like the final exam for one of my classes back in culinary school...but a lot less stressful. I will pick ground beef, asparagus, noodles (any type), tomatoes, corn tortillas and cheese (any type)

I picked these ingredients because I always have them on hand I have gotten "stuck in a rut" and keep making the same things over and over. It will be fun to see what someone else would do with these staples!

Hi, I just participated in your know-how swap helen, hope you don't mind me joining this one, as I still have no feedback (still newbie) :'(

I love cooking and I have a fussy partner so I am always thinking up ways to make the same boring stuff interesting, or ways to get him to try new foods without his knowing ^_^ (I got him to eat kangaroo mince and didn't tell him until aftr he said it was delicious hehe).

So I love the show and always make up my own list of what i'd take on the show: Rump steak, brie cheese, mushrooms, eggs, coconut milk and greek yogurt.

No Capsicum/Sweet Pepper family members (dreadful alergy) and I am not fond of peas

ukquilter 03/18/2007 #

No, Bleakoptimism, I am delighted to have you on board. Newbies always welcome here. Mind you I am very glad, juts in case you weer may partner that I didn't have to find a receipe for kangeroo mince! My Mum is allergic to pepper sand I have never met anyone else with that problem - my sympathy as they apepar in everything don't they!

Can I make the most of my postion as hostess to alert any readers to a charity swap I have set up Swap a Goat. I would never normally cross list like this but as this is a swap for charity perhaps you would consider checking it out?
