Description:

REQUIREMENTS == let's get the sticky red tape outta the way 1st.

A. I will allow newbies, as we were all newbies to begin with and how else can you NOT be a newbie but to do a swap??? BUT do not join unless you are 115% committed to showing oldies what a dedicated newbie candobie.

B. North America only to minimize shipping costs but to allow our Canadienne friends to participate in this Celebration of Mamahood

C. No swappers with LOW or BAD scores. I will not set the bar high and my reason is this -- scores are subjective AND use this challenge to wow the socks off of your swap buddy. Do something so awesome your score is raised and redeemed by spreading the love.

D. PLEASE be serious about sending. It sucks to get "forgotten." I know. I have been the one waiting by my mailbox and in days gone by when my youngest was very young, I, too, forgot to get something out. Luckily for me they knew me and we could work it out. On here, it is a different environment and the honour system is taken very seriously. Flake and the Swap-Bot world knows about it.

+++++>+++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++ +++++

~~~~~~~~The RULES of our of Celebration ~~~~~~~~
~1~ You will send your swap buddy a Handmade {sewn, crocheted, knitted, felted, crafted} grocery/farmer's market tote bag made from natural materials, as much as possible. IT IS for Earth Day. Bags must be at least 9 x 12 and at least wide enough to put foodstuffs into.
~2~ You will fill your tote bag with little goodies. Really take the idea of Earth Day & Mother's Day to heart when filling the bag ie. ~~~ all natural homemade soaps, bath salts & crocheted cotton washcloths to reduce chemicals going down the drain while pampering your swap buddy, ~~~ a shawl or fingerless gloves to utilize body heat instead of turning on the heater, ~~~ an apron, bamboo spoons, dishtowel & vegetarian recipe cards so she can whip up some earth friendly meals. BE CREATIVE. I suggest you choose a theme, such as in my examples of bath & body, clothing, or kitchen.
~3~ Do your best to re-use or recycle. For example, maybe you craft your tote out of a wool sweater or from sewing together vintage kitchen towels. Thrift shop your materials to reduce consumption. Just nothing in bad condition. For the goodies, try to utilize supplies you already have on hand. Again, remember this is an Earth Day swap so as much as you can re-use, recycle you should, within reason. If you do go a-shopping for supplies and/or fillers keep your spending around $30. These are to be sturdy reusable totes and nice goodies.
These are Mother's Day gifts! Create a work of art that you would swoon over should you receive it. I want you to have fits about actually putting it in a box to send far away. ;)
~4~ Once you sign up -- POST comments! Tell us you prefer showers to baths so your swap buddy doesn't send you bath items you will never use. Drop the "hint" you really need some dishtowels and an apron so your buddy knows you will be thrilled by the food print fabric she is itching to sew up.
~5~ HAVE FUN!!!!
Hello! I LOVE baths, but take showers too. I drink mostly tea, not coffee. I love to cook when I have the time and my kitchen & bathrooms are mostly blues & greens & white. Fun! Fun!
evacorges 03/ 3/2007 #
Please consider putting the north america only in the title... Hi from Holland :)
user3051 03/ 3/2007 #
sorry evacorges...i just think the shipping could get prohibitive if this one went overseas
i think i will do a really interesting international swap in a few months, i have some ideas & i'll be sure to e-mail you when i do
Hhm a short profile for me...I'm a Kitch/Cottage Witch..meaning I spend ALOT of time in my kitchen and living room!!!
dlowewin 03/ 9/2007 #
Hi all, I am open to anything. I love cooking and gardening. I am a vegeterian if you choose the cooking route. I also enjoy crafting, sewing crochet and knitting so a bag of that stuff would be nice as well. I try to be easy.
wonder2 03/10/2007 #
Hi,all~ Ok,I'm a newbie but don't worry~I'll send goodies if you snag me as a partner! I love showers(ocean,light florals&vanilla scents are great for soaps~just nothing that knocks you out),candles(same goes),anything dark chocolate,Kona coffee,vintage aprons,cookie cutters,fabrics&buttons,dragonflies,art supplies,wind chimes&tiny post earrings for the second piercing in each ear! Can't stand 'fruity' tea,black licorice or brussel sprouts!(although chances seem good that nobody would include those!) Can't wait to see who my partner is so I can get started~ Terri
Kiakiali, you make the best swaps. ;) I was looking for a nice Earth Day swap that wasn't all strictified and encouraged creativity, and voila! Here 'tis.
Anyway, to my partner, I have tons of information in my profile, so feel free to check it out. I love anything organic, and anything handcrafted from recycled and/or cruelty-free materials, so put together something scrumptious and conscientious and earth-friendly and I'll love it. :D My favorite colors are blue and green, thrift store recycles are great, I do wear earrings (especially danglies), and tea, coffee, candy, yarn, fabric, summer clothes, and summer items (organic waterproof sunscreen is LOVE!) will definitely get used. It says in my profile that I probably won't use bar soap right away, but in the case of this swap, I probably would use it right away if you sent it, because things that make me happy (like, say, earth-friendly stuff ;)) get moved to the top of the "I want to use it!" list. I could really use a bar soap dish, too, with drainage so I can leave it in the shower ... ;) Ooh, and squirty hand soap and/or hand towels that hang off knobs would be great, too.
Oh! And if you happen across a nice sweater at the thrift store that I could potentially scrounge for yarn (check out Ashley's instructions for what constitutes a recyclable sweater seam vs. a Bad Seam of Doom: http://www.neauveau.com/recycledyarn.html), that would be AWESOME. I never seem to find really nice recyclable sweaters here. No angora, though, please! ;D
user3051 03/14/2007 #
Jeweled Claws -- gee thanks! you made me blush ;)
I hate to be "strictified" and encourage creative thinking outside the quilt square as much as I can. Glad to have you on this swap, too!
user3051 03/15/2007 #
please check your regular e-mails as i have sent out a reminder and will be removing anyone who hasn't replie dby tomorrow nite. THANKS!
maltagirl 03/16/2007 #
hi all
wow what a great and interesting group of swapers. i knew you were out there but it took awhile to find you!
i am a soap maker so though i have great soap, i get tired of my own stuff! so send bath stuff! I don't care for fruity or food smells. I love lavender, patcholi, lemon grass.
I also love books, cook books, scifi, historical fiction, vampires, fantasy
we are veggie so something else to keep in mind!
I love to cook.
I love to garden.
I am in the midst of a sewing frenzy right now. so anything in that vein is cool.
I love bit and bobs, odds and ends. Faeries and the buddha, all things hindu and chinese.
Is this enough info or way to much!!!!
so excited about this swap!
user6620 03/16/2007 #
Oh, this swap is SO me!
I'm a relative newbie - I sent out a swap over a week ago, but have not heard anything yet from the recipient.
I'm an organic farmer - I grow mostly veggies and herbs. I'm a real hippie type, and I am a real thrift geek.
I love handmade soap, lotions, etc. - some favourite scents include patchouli, sandalwood, ylang ylang, lavender.
I'd love anything that might fit in with my retro (40s) kitchen, which is turquoise and red.
I cook a lot of Asian food, and enjoy handmade spice mixtures - garam masala, etc.
I practice Buddhism - I'm really into yoga and meditation.
I sew a lot - make art quilts, handbags, and other stuff. I'm a huge fan of fabric/yarn scraps.
Jewelry is always good! One can't have too many bracelets. :)
I'm so excited that I found this swap! Thanks for putting it together.
Hi! I just signed up, and have to surrender my computer to my hubby for the night. I will be back in the morning to post some stuff about myself, beyond what is in my profile. I haven't been rated yet, but I have already participated in 3 swaps and sent to my 6 partners. 2 of the swaps ended a week ago, so hopefully the ratings will be up soon. I have great feedback at a bunch of sites if you need links though. :)
I'm a crunchy mama to 4. We cloth diaper, breastfeed, etc. I love to sew and knit, as well as dye all kinds of fibers. I've started beading too and am always on the lookout for cool whimsical beads. I love ethnic foods and we are not vegetarian. I love red and black and pink, and punk and Asian designs. I love baths and try to take a nice soak almost every day, so bath potions are always loved here. I do not like bar soap, but body wash is great. I am really picky about lotions though and tend to stick with stuff I can try first from my local co-op. That's all I can think of right now! :)
user3051 03/17/2007 #
Okay crafters -- READ your buddy's profiles, follow the links to their myspaces/blogs/flickrs etc etc etc -- DO THE research, read what they wrote here AND let's ALL get 5 plus <3 s!!!!!!
user6148 03/22/2007 #
Whew! Finally posting here. Sorry to my partner if I was too late...I'm trying! wink
I love to cook. I love to read. I love to garden. I love thrifting. I love organic anything. I love nature, I'm crazy about plants in general. I do yoga. I am a crunchy, breastfeeding co-sleeping mum to a one year old little boy. I love acoustic instruments. I am Odawa. Chocolate is good. :)I try to buy local food and make my own as much as I can. I sing, dance, draw, weave (baskets), paint, sew, photograph, act, embroider, knit, crochet and will try anything new. I love anything handmade or recycled!
I'm not vegetarian, I don't drink coffee or alcohol and I really dislike patchouli(however you spell it!), rose and lavender scents.
wonder2 03/22/2007 #
