Interactive reading changes reading from a one-way listening activity into an active conversation with the reader and listener. Instead of just finishing the book, the goal is to use the story to build language, thinking skills, and engagement. Swap: send your partner a book recommendation with a twist. The twist is that you will include 2-3 flat items in separate sealed envelopes, marked by the book chapter, to immerse your partner in the book. The item should tie back to the story. Spark creativity and engagement.- Chapter Envelopes - open the envelopes before, during or at the end of the chapter.Items such as but not limited to:
Example: The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See
Be aware that your partner may send you a book you have read already – that’s ok! Rereading brings new and interesting insights. Or you don’t have time to read the suggestion – even better because when you do, you have incentive to start with the mystery envies.
