Description:

This is an international swap for people love book-arts.

The idea of this swap is to make an unconventional book. There are two ways you could do this: By making a book from scratch in an unconventional form, or by altering a book into something that isn't quite a book anymore.

Some ideas I had, to give you some examples:

  • Make a star book pendant (instructions can be found through Google).

  • Make a book of envelopes.

  • Alter a children's board book by cutting it into a different shape and painting it.

  • Make (or alter) a doll so its torso is a book.

  • Alter a book into a shrine or box.

  • Make a book with wooden or fabric pages.

  • Make a Jacob's Ladder into a book.

You could send a book that is itself a work of art, or that contains a poem, a short story, or some artwork, or you could send something that is open for your partner to make into whatever they want (a journal). But don't send anything that could be called "just a book". Send something you are proud of.

Rules:

  1. This is an international swap, so be prepared to mail to anywhere in the world.

  2. This swap is meant for people to enjoy the process of creating something, but I want everyone to receive something back. To that end, no swappers with a rating less than 4.7. I will be sending out a couple of emails throughout the swap and I will ban anyone whose email address bounces and who doesn't respond to a Swap-Bot message.

  3. If possible, please take a picture before sending and post it to the swap gallery. Please message or email both myself and your partner before rating a "1", in case anything has been lost in the mail.

  4. There will no angels for this swap. I will do everything I can to ban any potential "problem swappers", but we all swap at our own risk.

Please comment below if you have any questions because other people are probably wondering the same thing you are!

I already have an idea for my book, but I don't want to just send an empty book to my partner, so I am assuming that it should be decorated in some way, correct? I'd like to make my book interactive, so that my partners can use the book in his or her own fashion, but I want it to look nice. Am I on the right track? If so, I'm in! I already have my materials, and an idea of what it will be about! susi

Hi Susi! It sounds like you are on the right track to me. I figure that some people may create a very complicated structure and leave the piece very plain and simple, and others may have a more simple structure but may decorate beautifully, and some will do a little of each.

Ohh, This looks like a fun creative challenge! I'm looking forward to playing around with this one.

My package is going out on Monday to AlwaysJoy, when the post office is open again. I've got pictures on my Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/7337384@N03/) - the ones labeled "Still a book" - and I'm going to post a couple to the gallery too, if I can make it work. Don't peak, AlwaysJoy, if you want to be surprised!

My book is coming along. Hope to have it completed tonight and I'll post one image in the gallery. It is taking me much longer than I thought it would.

Cat in Israel, your book is on the way, hope that it is something you will enjoy. Let me know when it arrives, Thanks, Keri

I finished mine and there is one image in the gallery. I have the rest on my Flickr pages. I am a terrible photographer, so the images are not great. The book is an envelope book, made just from plain white envelopes that I embellished. It was lots of fun to make, and if anyone wants to give a try, the basic directions are here.

Loved looking through the images in the gallery!

Hi DreamHope, your book is winging it's way to you from New Zealand, "I hope you find it a dream" Oh I just could not resist that! What I was going to say was "I hope you are happy with it" :-)))
