Description:

Okay this is the first of several 12" block patterns that I thought I would trial with you all. The idea of this particular swap is that we each make a 12" log cabin block for a partner in the colour shades/tones they would like. If we try and use fabrics in colours of their own choice, later we could make other blocks, in similar colour ways (though not necessarily in the same fabrics), so we may all be able to ultimately piece them together and make a bed cover or wall hanging? So in this swap it is 1 x 12" block for 1 partner, international entry and only 4.9 ratings and above.
Email me directly if you feel you should be able to enter despite your rating. If you are new to swap bot and not rated as yet, email me directly and we can discuss it but I will not tolerate flaky swappers and there are a few 'newbie' swaps so you can pick up ratings quite quickly.

So I will make a block for my partner, but also make exactly the same block, with the same fabrics for myself as well. That way I will have made up two blocks but will keep one for myself. Then, when I receive a block from another swapper, I will have two blocks in the same pattern but differing fabrics.

My idea is to put a few different, straight forward block swaps up and if feed back asks for more complicated blocks then perhaps we'll do those too? Maybe a smaller sized block too later on.

Hiya folks, hope you feel inclined to join in.

My colour preferences would be to achieve an overall bed cover with powdery blue, lilac, light rather than bright pink, light green and creams with say mid blue, purple, mid greens and caramel/beige as any darker fabics?

That gives most folks a stab at what they may already have in their stash of fabrics!

Am I understanding you right, you wrote "So in this swap it is 1 x 12" block for 1 partner," Does this mean the strips once the block is made are to be 1 inch. wide? or are you saying that it is to be 1 - 12 inch block for your 1 partner?

My color's are pale pinks, pale yellows, creams, roses, lacy, pastels. My over all look is victorian. Thank You

I have to back out, sorry I just looked at the dates. I will be going in for surgery some time in the end of June, July. I hope to be back up to speed in Aug. Sorry

No worries Heather good luck! No Deborah............we do each make one block for one partner. What I meant to say was.......... I will make a block for my partner but also make exactly the same block, with the same fabrics for myself as well. That way I will have made up two blocks but will keep one for myself. Then, when I receive a block from another swapper, I will have two blocks in the same papetrn but differing fabrics. Sorry to confuse you, serves me right trying to use pc with a cat balanced on my lap, trying to catch my fingers as I typed! have edited the screed above, hope thats made it clearer!

My color preferences are creams, browns, and red. I do not like the cutesey country calico look; my tastes are more contemporary.

Regarding the size of the strips, I'm thinking that I will cut 2" strips, which will become 1.5" strips when sewn together. This will yield a 12.5" block that I send to my partner; it will become a 12" block once she joins it to other blocks. Is this right--do I actually send a 12.5" block?

liniecat 06/12/2007 #

yes thats just fine, was thinking last night I should have mentioned the quarter inch additions for stitching together. Half inch if the fabric is fray-ey, otherwise standard quarter inch is just fine. Glad you were able to join in too! :)

My color preferences would be greens or blues, deeper tones, not pastels, with white/creams. Though anything other than pinks and pastels would be fine too. :)
