Time for round 6!

It's so much fun to sew with vintage linens. I love the idea of making something cool from "nothing", and I love that retro/shabby look. There are so many possibilities!! Here are a few links to get you inspired:

In this swap, you'll have 2 partners. You'll send each partner 2 FQ (fat quarter) sized pieces from vintage sheets. The two pieces should be different, but they don't need to coordinate. This means you'll send out a total of 4 pieces (2 pieces to each of your 2 partners). A fat quarter is approximately 18"x22" in size. You can include hems, but they should not count in the measurement for the FQ size.

The specifics:

  • You can use 100% cotton or cotton/poly blends, but no flannel, jersey, satin, silk, etc.

  • Please only send fabric that is in good condition. Some fading and wear is to be expected, but carefully inspect the pieces you send out to make sure there are no holes, stains or very worn spots that would make them unusable.

  • The color/print is wide open (except no solid colors!)! Please stick to the 50's-60's-70's era. Check out the links above for some great examples. EDITED TO ADD: Please don't send children's characters unless you clear it with your partners first.

  • You may suggest a color preference in the comments below, but this is only a suggestion and is not a requirement for the swap.

Participants:

  • This will be international, since the weight will be light.

  • You must have at least a 4.8 rating, with at least a few snail-mail swaps and no unexplained 1s. I will allow newbies, if you PM me ahead of time and have a filled-out profile.

  • I will angel if needed, but I sure hope it won't be!

  • NOTE: If you are late in sending (without communication), you will be banned from any future swaps I host. I know, that's a pretty lame penalty, but it's all I've got! Having to follow up on people makes hosting less fun, and I want to keep hosting. So please, just send on time. Heck, save yourself some stress - send early!

I really enjoy Swap #5 and received the sweetest package of fabric. I giggled when I saw the sweet designs on my new fat sewing treats; therefore, I'm signing up for the next two swaps. Thanks for keepin' the vibe goin'!

Hi, just wondering as I've never done a swap like this before, is it generally expected that the fabric is hemmed or un-hemmed? Just wondering as obviously if I cut the piece from a larger sheet it may not have an exactly perfectly straight edge if it's not hemmed.

sweetavalanche 10/17/2009 #

bron1111 - It can be hemmed or not. It's okay if the piece includes hemmed or wonky edges, as long as the center (the un-hemmed, un-wonky area) is at least the size of a FQ (18x22"). Nobody should complain about getting a little extra fabric, as long as they can cut that FQ out of the center.

thebabykitties - You can always ask around for people to do private swaps! I'd be more than happy to (just PM me), and I'm sure others would too.

Hi, this is my first swap bot swap. I was so excited to find this as I have been collecting vintage sheets for the past few months for a quilt I have in my mind.

I am super excited, too! I love bold patterns with greens, yellows, or oranges especially. I can't wait to send out my packages!

Any bold prints would be great!

I finally have enough prints that I can send extra lol. I too have been enjoying these. I love pinks and bolds too. I definately have to do more shopping. I feel as though I can't get enough either. lol

I'd love some bold prints too... especially blues/greens if anyone has them :)
