Tess, I'm new to 'formal' zentangles. I view them as art...are we supposed to sign them on the front or just lable them on the back - or both? Also, I really like the 3.5" size. Gives my pen room to roam!

I put my initials on the front & then my name & date on the back.

Thanks Deb!

What I meant by "formal" is to do them as the Creators of zentagle teach them at www.zentangle.com. Most of what we do here are Zentangle inspired. signing and dating with the name of the swap on the back is all that is required. Sign them on the front of you like but not required.

okay, now I'm confused! This is the first I've heard of this swap requiring "formal" zentangle technique and not "zentangle-inspired". I don't have the kit, so I don't feel confident that I've got a full comprehension of the Zentangle official rules. :I

The closest I find on the zentangle website is their "theory" page at http://www.zentangle.com/about-theory.php

What makes it "formal" and not just "inspired by"? Does there have to be a border of white around the string pattern? Is it the 3.5" square size? Is it the type of pen you use? Is it the type of pattern fill you create?

How do I know if I'm doing it right? Do I need to buy a kit?
