I thought I would post some of my likes here so my partner can see it easily. When I go to the thrift store, I always look for:

  1. buttons, trims amd fabric (including sheets and pillow cases in great prints)
  2. vintage office supplies
  3. Stencils
  4. Cool items that can be altered
  5. cool jars to put my embellishments in :)

user1787 07/18/2006 #

Glad that people are getting excited about this. I like the idea of posting what you like at thrift store as well, so here goes: 1. Old cameras 2. Vintage pins/brooches 3. Advertisements for musical instruments 4. Interesting tins for storage 5. Tea cups

sambob 07/19/2006 #

WOW! I just found this site and could not be more elated with this idea. I have three girls who are 5, 2, and 1 and we call our local thrift stores "The fun place"! My husband calls it junk, though. :) Anyway, my interest is fabric! Pillowcases, dresses, scarves, hankies, neckties. Anything with an unusual print.

Out on a limb.... if you see a vintage (50's, 60's, 70's) elephant planter (those things people sent flowers in when you had a baby) with huge eyes... snag it! :)

Another limb.... those pressed tin canisters everyone had in their kitchen in the 70's and 80's. Most have a blue or white background and flowers in bright reds, yellows, and orange. I found one for $2 last week and would love to have another.

I don't expect anyone to come up with those last two items, but that's the great thing about thrift store shopping... you never know what someone just unloaded onto their dock! :)

Can't wait to get out there and swap!

I think thrifting for others is almost as much fun as thrifting for myself, so this is perfect! Jumping on the bandwagon of listing my likes, these are things I'm always on the lookout for: -Vintage fabric, buttons and trims. Pillowcases from the 60s are so perfect for crafting! -Fisher Price Little People, both newer and old school style -Children's picture books from the 50-60's. I especially love Richard Scarry -Kitchenware from the 50's 60's, my kitchen is pink, and I'm -trying to collect Blue Heaven pieces. Vintage patterns, especially for little boy's clothes Vintage hair or ladies' or home magazines. Pretty much anything midcentury or for a toddler boy :)

I think this sounds like such fun what a great excuse to go to charity/thrift shops! :0)

Some of the stuff I look for:

I love any secondhand jewelery made up of small beads or charms that I can use in my stitching/embroideries.

Anything with butterflies or sheep.

Any kind of container with a lid: tins/boxes etc

Anything with a USA/Canadion theme to it (that would be unusual to me here in the UK and remind me of times spent in both countries :0)

Linen: Pillowcases in retro/floral prints, tableclothes with or without embroidery

Buttons,Ribbons,Trims,Embellishments.

Old fashioned craft/stitching books!

I'll be happy with whatever really just like the sound of the swap!

Here's what I always shop for at thrift stores:

Books, cool and/or vintage tins, paper goods (notepads, stationery, cards), funky tupperware-like stuff.

I also spend a lot of time looking for stuff that doesn't fit into any category, like I have a "comfort meter" from Sunbeam which is a thermometer and humidity measurer put together, a roulette wheel and a Paddington Bear cell-phone case.

I've been looking for a backgammon board and can never find one!

Hey there. I hope my partner received her swap, I've misplaced my delivery conformation slip. I haven't received anything from my partner yet, from the looks of the send list, I think I may not be the only one. Several folks are marked as not sent" :( If whoever has me could drop me a line and let me know the status, I'd sure appreciate it!
