Description:

This will be our first group swap and I am excited to be hosting! Since the holiday season is so hectic, I thought we would do something low stress, super simple and pretty cheap.

Each member will have 1 partner and will send 5 vintage images and 3 random facts about who they are. I think it is a great way to get to know each other and make new friends. Try to avoid things that are already on your profile. Random facts can be fun facts like favorite donut or best childhood memory.

Everyone has their own idea of what vinatge is. I googled the word and found an assortment of definitions. To me, vintage is not the 90's or even the 80's. I like to think of vintage as no later than than the 70's. I really love black and white images or quirky things from the 40's and 50's. If you are in doubt if something is "vintage enough" pm your partner. They may be looking for just what you have.

Vintage images can come from old photos, postcards, maps, ads, magazines, you may even go to a website like Jupiter Images and reprint vintage images onto NICE heavy paper or photo paper. Reproduction images are great for craft projects.

Any questions pm me. I am on the Bot several times per day.

As a previous antique dealer, vintage to me means before WW2, but then I lived during the 50's so that doesn't seem to vintage to me. :D

I love ephemera of any kind and have a lot, and can make copies of a lot of different postcards, or ad images or other small bits.

To me vintage is pre 1950. If I was alive during that decade it doesn't seem vintage!! (Although I guess I could be vintage! LOL)

I agree. One site said anything over 10 years becomes vintage but I don't find that vintage at all. I have received vintage swaps that were from the 80's and that does not seem vintage either. Pre 1950 seems right.

I tend to think of anything from 1950s onwards as retro, rather than vintage. However even retro ends in the late 70s (punk)!

good explaination rustycage11. That sounds perfect!

When I work with vintage, I tend to go even farther back - to the 1800s or early 1900s. I love the old "sepia" toned photos.

1800 and 1900's I love too! I think of that as antique though. Thankfully I'm not "antique" yet! LOL!

If we're talking images for ATCs and other art though, I think 19th century/Victorian/Edwardian is generally classed as vintage. As misumisu22 says, everyone has their own idea of what vintage is. As long as no one sends me any pictures of Joan Collins in shoulder pads or Adam Ant - LOL
