Grab a bubble mailer and assemble a kit for 1 partner, consisting of:

  • 5 random unwritten store-bought postcards
  • 2 nice pens - nothing fancy here, just good quality pens
  • 1 dispenser of correction tape
  • 1 extra - could be a bag of sticker flakes, a sticker sheet of small stickers, a friendly ink stamp, adhesive address labels, usable postage stamps from your partners home country or an extra postcard, pen or dispenser of correction tape ... anything as long as the extra can be used to Postcross.

DON'T FORGET to also include a little note with the swap name Postcrossing Support Kit and your Swap-bot username.

This swap is of course open to everyone - you don't have to be a Postcrossing member, but I encourage anyone who hasn't already to give the site a try in the new year. I really enjoy it.

Open internationally to all swappers with no resent unexplained issues, Newbies are welcome, but please have a comprehensive profile and DON'T LET YOUR PARTNER DOWN. I will angel myself and / or find angels if it becomes necessary - I want everyone to feel safe joining. Be assured that I'll be checking profiles and banning at my discretion.

What a great idea! I got stamps for my birthday this year, and I loved it. But this support kit would be handy too. Thanks for the idea.

wunderland 12/16/2009 #

I like Postcrossing a lot, I hope this swap attracts new people to the site and lends a little "support" to already-members :)

TAnn 12/28/2009 #

Jazza 01/ 2/2010 #

I love this idea, please host it again.

iLoveMail 01/ 2/2010 #

GREAT idea!!!! I have 2 Postcrossing accounts :))

washingtonmaverick 01/ 4/2010 #

Is anyone opposed to recieving a drug rep pen? Like Viagra, Lincare, zertec etc...they make awesome pens...let me know.

trishgray17 01/ 4/2010 #

I am thinking about joining this swap, I just joined postcrossing as well. Just have a silly question, is the correction tape just for mistakes, or do you alter the cards in any way?

wunderland 01/ 4/2010 #

It's just for mistakes @trishgray17 - I'm kind of silly about sending out neat and tidy cards w/o any scribbles ... most people probably don't really care about that, but I thought the addition of correction tape would be thoughtful in this kit.

DosLittleMonkeys 01/ 6/2010 #

You might want to check on @charmykitty before assigning partners to see if she has logged in. She is late on a few swaps.

wunderland 01/ 6/2010 #

I check everybody's profile @DosLittleMonkeys

awrelie 01/ 6/2010 #

How about the postcards? They have to be related with city/country or it is better to send another kind of them (not country related)?

wunderland 01/ 6/2010 #

It can be any cards at all @awrelie, if you can only find tourist-type cards, than that's fine. Otherwise, anything goes - but I wouldn't suggest ad cards that have no space on the back to write on.

jenchaos77 01/ 7/2010 #

i love postcrossing- i have been a member for over a year :D i love it!!! today is my 1st swap bot day though... any tips :D

wunderland 01/ 7/2010 #

my best tips @jenchaos77 would be:

Don't bite off more than you can chew - even though 12 swaps may look interesting to join, if you're inexperienced with the site and / or don't have the time / resources to invest, maybe you should just start out doing 1 or 2 swaps at a time.

Read the swap descriptions from the hosts carefully - misunderstandings can turn into bad rating and sometimes just turn plain ugly!

Never sign up unless you honestly intend to fulfill your obligation to the swap. Flaking, i.e. - not sending, is the ultimate no-no.

Visit the forums, join Newbie groups, PM other members with questions, and read the glossary / FAQ / new user info.

If you happen to ever run into a problem with a swap, i.e. - you're going to be late, or a funky rating, always try your best to correspond with your partner(s) to work things out.

:)

trishgray17 01/ 8/2010 #

I am very excited about this swap, but I am doing some private swaps. So I WILL sign back up as soon as I can. Just wanted to let you know!

wunderland 01/ 8/2010 #

No problem Trish - I hope your private swaps go well :)

superstarchefmark 01/10/2010 #

This is so interesting. I'm learning a whole new vocabulary!

wunderland 01/10/2010 #

I remember feeling the same way not so long ago @superstarchefmark :)

RoseTinted 01/14/2010 #

Instead of correctional tape, would correctional ink be okay instead? It's just that I could only find the ink variety...I hope this is alright?

wunderland 01/14/2010 #

PM your partner when assigned and see if it's alright with them @RoseTinted - otherwise, don't send this stuff, it's a potential mess in the envelope. If your partner agrees to it, I would suggest putting it in a Ziploc-style baggie.

RoseTinted 01/14/2010 #

Well it is new and in cardboard/plastic packaging so I cant see it comming out...I found some of the tape online but it was double the price! But no worries, thanks anyway.

RoseTinted 01/14/2010 #

Oh it's ok, I;ve found something really good - it's like a correctional pen that dispenses tape :) thanks!

wunderland 01/14/2010 #

Wow, I hope no one else has a hard time finding correction tape - it's readily available here, maybe I shouldn't assume it is everywhere.

tiggerski 01/15/2010 #

I would love to join this swap but I have no idea what correctional tape is. I am familiar with "white out" liquids and pens but not to sure about a tape. Where would you buy this?

missstamper 01/15/2010 #

I've seen the tape at Walmart and some grocery stores, and all office supply stores, usually just a buck or two also.

wunderland 01/15/2010 #

I see correction tape in the school / office supply section of most stores - it should be right next to the liquid stuff. You can also get correction tape pens (different from a liquid pen dispenser) like @RoseTinted mentioned.

CdnChicka 01/15/2010 #

Love this idea :D

tiggerski 01/17/2010 #

Ok, I got the correctional tape, found it at the grocery store, hummm never knew this stuff existed, LOL--I'm in!!

wunderland 01/17/2010 #

All right @tiggerski! I'm personally using a pink cancer ribbon dispenser right now, (like the one pictured in the swap description) but when I went back to the store to get more for swapping, they were sold out :(

tjclassic8482 01/20/2010 #

Hello to all, newbie from Malaysia here, hope can participate. Feel free to add me. Terima kasih (thank you).

kookie 01/21/2010 #

I'd like to try!

blueskydei 01/21/2010 #

Awesome! This is an awesome swap idea! Especially since I'm sick of sending Pixar cards. Hehehe. :)

unusualdancingfaerie 01/21/2010 #

i wonder if my swap partner would be opposed to not having correction tape, i live out in a forest and the closest town 20km away does not do much in the way of this. it is 2 hours to the nearest stationary shop so i tend to go to town once a month for stuff like this would it be ok to substitute it at swap partners agreement?

ladydy5 01/22/2010 #

Need to know why the correction tape? I know, for corrections but never had to use them. How come you put them in the list?

wunderland 01/22/2010 #

This is a list of things that I personally keep on hand for Postcrossing. I understand that most people do not use correction tape @ladydy5, but if you tend to make a lot of spelling errors like me, I personally think it's thoughtful to take the extra step to keep your handwriting tidy on an outgoing postcard.

Eline 01/23/2010 #

when are we starting this swap, the date was yesterday??

missstamper 01/23/2010 #

Eline, the coordinator can assign partners at any time now (they actually have up to 7 days after the sign up date). With the high number of participants, it may take a bit to check for flakers, etc.

wunderland 01/23/2010 #

Yup, I'm still checking through profiles - hang on everybody ...

craftgasm 01/24/2010 #

For those who were curious, if you have me as a partner, I don't mind getting a package with something else subbed for the correction tape, since I rarely use it. Of course, that might be because I'm OCD and usually write out my message on scrap paper first! :)

papercaper 01/25/2010 #

I think the correction tape is a such a good idea. I'm going to start using it myself. I never liked those correction pens with a the steel nib -- they were never very neat/tidy. But tape! Ooh! I should just point out, however, that the big brand ones are not cheap in Australia. Admittedly I was at a newsagent in a wealthy area when I looked for it (as opposed to an office supplies shop) but it was up around the $5.00 mark. Not that we are forced to sign up, but there is sometimes a great disparity over the availability and price of certain items across the globe.

wunderland 01/26/2010 #

I was careful to give everyone plenty of time before the sign-up date because some people didn't know what correction tape was, let alone know the availability and price. Swappers shouldn't set themselves up to be frustrated. As host, I'm glad that many people messaged me with questions about the tape, and sincerely hope that no one has signed up who didn't take the time to figure out if they were able / willing to purchase it.

RoseTinted 01/29/2010 #

I think I was the 1st to ask about the tape, but I managed to pick up a pentel one for exactly the same price as the ink (really reasonable aswell) - so it can be done...and I don't live in the USA either btw, so it must be possible to get else where.

wytch6 02/ 6/2010 #

@Nicker has started to flake and is signed up for this swap.

wunderland 02/ 6/2010 #

I'm aware of the @Nicker situation - her/his partner will be taken care of. @Nicker met the swap requirements at the time of partner assignments. Unfortunately, these things happens. I stand by my statement of wanting everyone to feel safe joining my swaps - I will set things strait to the best of my ability.

The next time I host this swap, the requirements will be stricter. I like giving Newbies the benefit of the doubt, but protecting good swappers (and my wallet from postage burn) is important too.

wunderland 02/11/2010 #

I've sent an angel package to @karli today ... I don't expect @Nicker will be returning to Swap-bot any time soon. If anyone else has any problems, please let me know :)
