Description:

This is not an ATC swap but it is in the same fashion except the size will be 3 inches x 3 inches. There are a lot of rules to follow so if you don't like rules then don't join this swap. This is a challenge so open your mind and see what you can do.

Now for the rules (yes I AM a control freak)

  1. The theme of this swap is simple. It must be red or mostly red.

  2. Obviously, the size will be 3 x 3 inches.

  3. Please use a sturdy background to mount your work on. If you want to use fabric that is fine but you must mount it on something like cardboard or a small canvas, or some wood.

  4. All mediums are welcome.

  5. No stickers (sorry Rach :) LOL No magazine clippings.

  6. This must be your original work. Please don't chop someones ATC up and claim it as your own. Yes, people do that kinda thing.

  7. Digital artists are welcome to join this swap providing their art has been printed on quality paper and signed and numbered on the back.

  8. Actually all artists are requested to sign their work on the back or front if they prefer.

  9. This swap is for serious artists and crafters. You do not have to be a professional but I am looking for good quality work you are proud of.

  10. Everyone interperates art in different ways. What is art for someone is crap for someone else. I will try to keep this swap limited to swappers who I believe can produce quality work but please understand that you may not receive something you like. Better luck next time.

Other stuff:

I am no angel. Sorry!

If you don't send to your partner I will swear at you!

If I want to ban you from this swap I will do so without notice. If you want to know why you will get an honest response.

If this swap works out I am thinking of doing more of the same so that our 3 x 3's can be displayed together.

If you have any questions you may put them here in the comments section and I will answer them.

I hope you have a great time with this swap if you join :)

I like the concept of originality and no stickers and I too think they would work well framed, in a set of 4 or 9 perhaps, which makes me think what about having more than 1 partner.

"Red or mostly red"... hmmm... I THINK I can do this... I might try before I join... just in case...

If I succeed, should I incorporate a hanger on the back so it could stand alone, or not bother with it as it may interfere with future framing?

tiggerkitn25 07/12/2010 #

This sounds interesting, a BIG inchie lol. I'm not a fan of red usually, but if we do more in the future in different colors they would look good displayed together. I'll keep this on my watch list and try to make it ahead of time. =)

Jringling, maybe just glue or tape a ribbon hanger on the back so it would also lay flat if framed?

jringling 07/13/2010 #

tiggerkitn25, good idea, but it wouldn't work for what I make...I have to leave extra material it be able to attach any type of hanger. hmmm... I could use a bit of picture frame wire, so if I join this one that is what I'll do... Thanks, you just helped me think that one through...

:)

I would say not to attach anything to the back but maybe ask your partner. I am hoping to frame a few together later on. Like maybe four or nine together in a frame but I'll probably wait and see.

I am pretty sure I will do more of these. Actually, since I am almost finished my red one already, I might start another swap right away.

I may make more than one partner next time. I just want to see how this one goes first :)

Thanks for your interest.

I think I will have to pass on this one... I think I could get a red finish on copper, but I am not sure... and if I made something and then could not get the patina to cooperate, I wouldn't be able to send anything...

I'll try to keep and eye out for blue or green. I know how to get those colors...

Kelli 07/16/2010 #

I'll organise a blue one soon.

Kelli 07/17/2010 #

jringling-use alcohol ink to get red on your copper

jringling 07/26/2010 #

I try to avoid paints. I use chemical reactions to provide contrast. I have gotten nice brick reds on copper before (with heat) but it is not easily controlled. I also find that it is a fragile patina that may not hold up...

try alcohol inks for the color change

TwiddleLee 07/28/2010 #

Does it matter how thick the piece is?

Kelli 07/28/2010 #

No, as long as it is sturdy.
