Description:

Not sure how many people would be interested in this but I thought it would be nice to give it a go... Hopefully I get at least ONE partner to swap with! =D

Have you ever wanted to send something larger or heavier but held back because of the shipping charges? If so, then this swap is for you!

Partners will be assigned by early-mid August and you will need to send it in good time for your partner to receive it by 15 December (2 weeks after send-by deadline), in time for Christmas so we all get nice huge packages to open! I'm setting a long send-by deadline however the idea is to give you the option to use surface mail (which would generally take 2 - 3 months) and save on postage, so we can spend MORE on our package! =D If you are going to use surface mail, please make sure you send out your item MUCH EARLIER than the swap deadline because your partner should still receive it by 15 December!

So here are the rules:

1) Send one package that's at least 45cm x 30cm x 15cm (or 18" x 12" x 6") large --- This package should be nicely filled (and not just stuffed with paper or fillers)

2) Package should contain at least 5 items individually wrapped

3) Items must be profile based --- put thought and care into it please!

4) Package should be worth approximately US$20 - US$30 before shipping (of course you can go higher if you wish)

5) Package should be sent out with enough time such that it arrives by 15 December 2010 (please bear in mind the festive season and the fact that mail takes longer during this time)

And here are the participant requirements:

1) No newbies.

2) Have at least 30 hearts for type three packages.

3) Have at least 70% of all type 3 swaps with hearts.

4) No 1s ever. No recent 3s (within the last year).

5) Have a well filled out profile --- It will be difficult to shop for you if you don't list very much in your profile. Some ideas for making it easier to shop for you: - Have an Etsy / Amazon favorites link in your profile - List both general and specific likes and dislikes e.g. General likes: Pink, flowers, soft toys and Specifics: Color pencils, cartoon bookmarks, Hello Kitty stationery

Partners need not purchase from the Etsy or Amazon list but it would go a long way in giving an idea of the kind of things you like.

Any exceptions to the above - please PM me and I will review your profile first.

Please join only if you are happy with all of the rules above and are able to fulfill them.

Cheers and happy swapping!

Edit 7 Aug: I am extending the signup date by a week to give a couple of people more time to get those ratings required. =)

Edit 12 Aug: I changed the requirement to read 70% of all rated type 3 swaps because a lot of postcard and e-mail swaps usually don't receive hearts, and they don't really count in this swap anyways. =)

The idea is great. Unfortunately. we don't have the surface mail option anymore from the USA, so shipping is always expensive :(

Chelle 07/21/2010 #

goes to check... Which comes up to about US$17 for a 2 pound package by First Class Intl Mail with USPS... Aww well I guess if anyone else has any cheaper options out of the US (which I guess not. :P) maybe you can share too. =)

This is why I don't join international package swaps, because postage prices are high here in the USA. Even a small flat rate box is over $13.00. It ends up costing more than the actual swap itself and some simply cannot spend that kind of money and also risk being flaked and receiving nothing in return.

I checked the shipping from the USA, ouch! Wish it wasn't so high!!!

leilx 07/29/2010 #

it is actually often cheaper to send first class, not priority. I rarely use flat rate boxes; they are only worth it IF what you are sending is very heavy. I don't think it is really all that much more expensive from the US than it is anywhere else--I've lived overseas several times and I always thought shipping there was more expensive than here. Just the other day I sent two small packages to Italy and it was under $10 for both of them. Granted they weren't very heavy, but still, one had 8 items inside.

My bigger concern about this is people's profiles, and finding things they would like. Maybe you should recommend that people have an etsy favorites list link with a variety of items on it for this as a help. People wouldn't have to purchase from it, but they could, or they could get ideas. They could also put amazon links or powells links. Sometimes profiles are pretty uninformative, and living where I do, I don't have access to kawaii stuff easily (and wouldn't have a clue what to purchase anyway, since I dislike it)

Great idea leilx, I will update the swap description! =)

jaakel 08/ 1/2010 #

Aesa 08/ 4/2010 #

Snif ! I few not to register me because I have not 30 hearts. A prochain time maybe..^_^..

thegreatdawn 08/ 6/2010 #

Shipping from Canada is much more expensive than the States for some reason too :(

ladonnatwinmom 08/ 7/2010 #

I would like to join, but only have 23. Maybe will have 30 by the time the deadline is up? I've sent tons and am waiting for ratings....Please let me know if I make it! LaDonna

It's a great idea, but the box size matters here in Norway, and it would cost way too much to send. I'll probably host something similar to this swap soon, but not this huge.

I so wish I was rich and could join big big big swaps like this! =(

zurdoswifey 08/12/2010 #

Can I use a box that is 15x12x10 ... thats the closest size I can get and its basically the same size just different dimensions... lol

Let me know cuz if not I will have to keep looking...

Chelle 08/13/2010 #

Yes - you can. =) As long as the volume is the same!

Cant believe it, our postal services managed to deliver package from me sent by "surface" (well, I could choose only Air or 2 times chaper Surface Air Lifted which I used) from Europe to USA in 15 days :-) .
