Watching this one... would be game for one partner!

cja 09/ 5/2010 #

I'm OK with either 1 or 2 partners.

lou 09/ 5/2010 #

@RJcanuck and @cja - thanks for weighing in and we can leave it at one partner and maybe do this swap fairly often, so that we get to share photos with each other in the group.

Another thought, we could take it down to 3 photo notecards for future, frequent group swaps of photo notecards ...

Hi, I hate looking like a newbie, but there ya go.. What size are these notecards? How does one make them ?

lou 09/ 6/2010 #

@siouxx05 here are some ideas -- size of notecard determined by size of photo you use -- standard sizes (in inches) are 3 x 5 and 4 x 6, though 5 x 7 not out of the question, and you might also decide to trim down a photo, or combine two, etc.

If printing a photo out yourself with a good-quality printer, you can just position it on paper or card-stock so it can be folded and written on inside. If using an actual photo, you'd just adhere it to heavy paper or card-stock so the photo is on outside and a note can be written inside.

I'd prefer 2 partners for variety but I'm fine with one too. Are photo corners okay or do the photos have to be completely glued on?

aubreysmom 09/ 7/2010 #

I think I would prefer 1 partner with 5 photos. Or, I like your idea of 3 photos and then maybe 2 partners for some other time?

Tynkerbelle 09/ 7/2010 #

a great source for photocards and postcards is winkflash they have great prices and great turnaround time, very good quality....just a little fyi

lou 09/ 8/2010 #

@ccap I like your comment about variety, maybe in the future we might do 2 or 3 cards to 2 or 3 partners or more? It'd be good to get more of our group mingling, and we get to see more of each other's pics that way, too -

@Tynkerbelle thanks for sharing that processing tip!

About photo corners ... that's another great look & let's agree that it is sender's choice how to attach photo to notecard, since it is sender's picture

lou I love this swap idea! I think for now I'd prefer 1 partner with 5 photos. In the future though, I definitely think the 2 or 3 cards for 1 to 2 partners would be a great idea.

ccap 09/ 9/2010 #

Sadly, winkflash does not deliver (or bill) to Canada. Anyone know of a website like that (in particular with just black borders etc.) that might deliver to Canada?

xsazzlex 09/10/2010 #

ccap, have you tried www.moo.com? The quality is amazing but they're not the cheapest.

Right, so 5 notecards to one partner? I'm in!

For future though, I agree that more partners = more variety, so perhaps two cards to two partners or similar!

RJcanuck 09/10/2010 #

@ccap - I've used Shutterfly for photos + books, they might have a card option to suit you. Of course the turn around time coming up from the US isn't the greatest. Do you have a Black's in your area? Not sure what they offer in the way of cards either, but they do prints so might have something!

Terrific discussion, how lucky we are to be able to share tips with each other! I don't have a lamination machine, but for photos being sent naked as postcards, the 3M adhesive lamination pouches [sold in different sizes at Target and probably Wal-mart, etc.] work fairly well, and this could also be done to the photos being attached to notecards. I probably won't do it for this project, since the photos will be designed to be notecards and will have protective envies around them, but wanted to share info about lamination in case anyone wants to try it out --

great swap idea...i like the idea of lots of notecards!!! 2 partners...three each...or more...i love making and recieving notecards...done mine and waiting to send to my partner!!!

lou 09/18/2010 #

I was at a stationery store earlier today and there were blank photo notecards for sale, some with matching envelopes. I bought one to experiment with it as a template, as I have photos that are different sizes. This may also be a good solution for swappers that may not want to make the notecards -- you could just affix photos to notecards, etc. -- anything that looks nice and that you (yourself) would want to receive should be great

TeaNi 09/21/2010 #

Can you clarify, when you say "with minimum of two different photos" do you mean each notecard must have 2 different photos, or just that we should not use the same image on all 5 notecards, and must use a total of 2 different ones? TIA!:)

Tynkerbelle 09/21/2010 #

@TeaNi if am am reading it correctly as well i would say a varity of photos of 2 or more on 5 total cards.... Not 5 of the same pic on all 5. 1 pic per card unless u want to use more than one on any given card. Hope that helps & i hope i read it the right way to help. Have fun

lou 09/22/2010 #

@Tynkerbelle you got it, that's the same way I would have put it. Of course, if anybody wants to create a photo montage on their cards, that'd be way cool ...

TeaNi 09/22/2010 #

That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure, thanks!:)
