Description:

I'm going to try to host a magic yarn ball swap for each month... I just love magic yarn balls... thank you to everyone that participated in the october, november and december swaps!!

for this swap, you will make ONE magic yarn ball.... try to make the theme of the ball match your partner's profile... BUT it doesn't have to!!

please don't use cheap 100% acrylic yarn... OR put cheap things IN the yarn ball... make something nice... something you'd LOOOOVE to receive!!!

you can search google or flickr for magic yarn ball pics/ideas here's a place to upload all your swap-bot magic yarn balls http://www.flickr.com/groups/1583757@N22/ thanks momwithahook!!

there are some WONDERFUL ones out there!!!

you could also include a pattern that would go with the yarn you send.... you could use just one larger skein of yarn... or two small skeins. or, imagine a beautiful hand tied skein!!!!

it's all up to you!!! this is senders choice - but, with the idea that basing it on your partners profile is the BEST way to put a smile on someone's face!!

Hey, this is my first magic carn ball swap so I have a few questions: - What's the weight of one larger skein of yarn or two small skeins of yarn? In Germany we can buy yarn mostly in a skein of 50 gramms(that would be 1.76 ounces) or 100 gramms (that would be 3.53 ounces I think). So how much of our small German skeins shall I use? - How much should the approximate value of the thing that I put inside the yarn ball? 5 dollars or 10 dollars or more?

Trinity - I have done magic ball on Ravelry. I have found per my experience (not the requirements of this swap - which our Host will have to advise us of) that I used about 2-3 balls of yarn. The yarn was about 109 yards (50grm) each. That seemed to provide a thicker dense ball that covered all the goodies I crammed inside :D. Plus @300 yards is a good amount for one full project be it shawl, scarf, etc that I imagine we all might be creating right now. <3 Charity

What about flakers? I participated in the last one your hosted and was flaked on. How can we eliminate that this round? I really want to participate.

TrinitySF 01/12/2011 #

Well I fear that you cannot eliminate flakers in any swaps =( Becauce you never know if someone will flake if he hasn't flaked before...

to answer some of your questions....... I did say in the description it's senders choice, and it would be good to use one large skein, or 2 smaller skeins.I agree with atomiclulu that around 300 yards is a good amount, but it isn't a requirement for this swap.

and, as far as flakers/being flaked on. that is sooo difficult!!! the BEST thing to do is if you have been flaked on, make sure you RATE!!! so next time they sign up for a swap, the host can see that on the profile, and not let them in the swap!!!

I can try to angel some swaps, if needed, and as always, if anyone can volunteer to angel, just send me a message, and if we need anyone to angel, i'll let you know!! :o)

i'm all ready to assign partners, just waiting for the option in my settings!!! :o) soooooooo excited, I LOVE these magic yarn ball swaps!!! i hope you all do as well!! <3

So excited to get started on mine!

Cinderella - I volunteer to angel. Especially for magic ball, its just as easy to wind up some treats for a friend who maybe got flaked on as creating a MB for my partner. PM me if you need details to keep for Angel Squad.

You are sweet @atomiclulu - @cinderella730 did you ever get yours from last time? I was never angelled for last time either I just added atomiclulu to your Flickr group - will skip February's swap but might join in the March one - I sure hope this goes pleasantly for all involved because these are such fabulous swaps.

Are we posting USPS tracking to you Cinderella ? Mailing today didnt know if you wanted those. Let me know :)

SewCraftyMommy (who posted above) was the partner I sent to. I sent my magic yarn ball out 1/20/11 - I'm certain it could've made it to NY by now, but I haven't heard from her. Worried that the parcel was lost by the USPS (that happens, ugh!) I emailed her 3 days ago and still no reply. Does anyone have any suggestions?

atomiclulu 02/ 9/2011 #

Ayates - I have not heard from anyone. I am going to try one last round of messages here on SB. My partner received hers but the USPS lost postage and charged her. While trying to work that out I am sending an extra gift to her. I have not heard from the person who was supposed to send to me, or our hostess and I have tried - Flickr, her blog, and here. : ( Seems very disorganized. There should be USPS tracking mailed to every hostess on send out dates and other details in a swap.
