Description:

For this swap you will turn a pile of craft goodies into a surprise ball for your partner.

Use embellishments, charms, ribbons, lace, clear or rubber stamps, brads, buttons, bling, eyelets, prima flowers or any other craft items that your partner may enjoy. This means you will need to look at their profile to see what type of crafts they enjoy, but not every item you choose needs to be off their wishlist. For example...I make ATC's so my surprise ball might contain...embellishments, an unmounted rubber stamp, brads, ribbons or lace, small items for ATC's, etc.

You may include items from your stash as long as they are in great shape.

The ball should have at least 10 items in it. A group of cheap items will be considered as 1 item total...so if you are including 6 brads, that will count as 1 item. More expensive items, such as a clear stamp, will count as one item.

In the end, the ball should be between the size of an orange & a grapefruit. Anywhere in that range is good. If you want to make it bigger than that no problem.

Please follow the tutorial that is posted here Surprise Ball Tutorial

Usual group swap rules apply.

Have fun!!

Can we choose to use one skein or do we need to use scrap and knot the ends to change colors as we wrap?

SpaRroW25 06/28/2011 #

I like the idea of a scrap ball... it could have a pretty effect if nice yarns were used! That could be amazing!

SpaRroW25 06/28/2011 #

I also loved that the tutorial had layers of different items/twine/string/lace... etc!

@deeno1105 - you can do it however you choose.

jannieb 06/28/2011 #

@SpaRroW25 - I liked that about it too. I really wouldn't have anything to do with all the yarn that comes out of a yarn ball, but I could certainly use different ribbons, string, twine, lace & stuff!!

This looks fun. Is there a minimum number of items we should put in the ball?

BarkleysMommy 07/ 8/2011 #

Might you be able to provide a minimum diameter for the ball and add it to the swap description? I noticed that the tutorial said the ball was about the size of a small melon, but I think that my idea of a small melon might be different than somebody else's. :-)

I edited the swap & answered all the questions. PLMK if I left anything out or if you think of something that needs to be added. Thanks for joining & happy swapping!!

OK, I've joined! I'd like my ball to be made from one yarn as opposed to different strings tied together, if possible, as I do use quite a bit of yarn in my crocheting and I will certainly use it! And I can do either for my partner, one type of fiber, or lots of diff. ones, just let me know!
