Love letter swap #1

Is there someone you have been meaning to connect with (an old roommate, your grandmother, your best friend from third grade, for example), but have not had the time to write or call? If so, this swap is just for you.

There can never be too much love passing through the world or our lives. But sometimes the distance grows between ourselves and the people we care about. This swap is designed to provide the impetus to bridge the gap, apologize, or just reconnect.

Here is what you should do:

1) Think of someone in your life with whom you want to connect or reconnect. Maybe you owe someone an apology or perhaps life just got busy and two weeks has stretched to two months. Just pick a person.

2) Write a letter to the person you thought of in Step 1. This is a love letter, which means you might want to keep it sweet, share your love, complement the person, and generally spread your love.

3) Write a letter to your swap-bot partner in which you share information about to whom you wrote, how you know that person, why you love and admire them, and why you decided to write them. You can also include some information about yourself in the letter to your swap partner, of course.

4) This is an optional step but it might be fun. Three weeks after sending your love letter the person in step 1, send a postcard to your swap partner with an update. Maybe you heard back from that long lost roommate and have decided to meet for coffee. Maybe your grandmother sent you a batch of cookies thanking you for your note, or maybe YOU just feel good having shared your love –actively and with purpose—with someone you care about.

Of course, feel free to contact me with any questions or for clarification. I have all sorts of great ideas and themes for future love letter swaps, so if this is a hit, we will keep them going.

Happy love! Happy swapping!
