About Me

Hey, I'm a crafty and domestically inclined 18 year old college student from California. I particularly indulge in fiber arts of all sorts, including spinning, sewing, and knitting. I'm learning to weave, quilt, embroider, and knit projects more advanced than a scarf. I love to read, absolutely love to read, particularly fiction (fantasy in particular), though I read some nonfiction if it interests me. I'm judeo-pagan (I know its weird, but it works for me.) Probably my biggest view in life is, if it works for you, and it isn't hurting anyone, I won't knock it. However, trying to impose your beliefs on others counts as hurting them in my book. I try to be tolerant of everyone though. I love plants, and drapped scarves and fabric(I have 7 houseplants in my dorm. Remember how small your dorm was? lol, it gets crowded.), and french country/cottage style things, as well as sort of... Victorian goth? Thats not exactly it, but sort of. I love blankets and rugs and aprons and cooking stews, and baking bread, (though the cooking and baking is very difficult in the non-functional dorm kitchen.) Not too sure what else to say, so I'll leave it like this for now.

Favorite Music

My favorite music is kind of a hard one. Pretty much the only answer is that I don't like "canned country". That is, I really don't like the country music you can get in stores, but fiddlers, banjos, singing, all sorts of country music that is of the farmers market/street performer/dance hall type, I like. I don't like most rap, because its offensive to me(and I don't take offense easily), but I only mind the offensive stuff, not the style of music in general. I adore folk-rock (Joan Baez, etc), and plainchant, and it just really depends on my mood. Oh, I'm not a big fan of packaged pop, you know, American Idol, Hillary Duff, that sort. I like my music with lots of originality. (Yes, I know Joan Baez did a lot of covers, but she did them in her own way.)

Favorite Books

Oh goodness. I like so many books. I'm a real bibliophile. I'll just put down some of my faves, but there are so many others. I love Mercedes' Lackey's books (most of them at least, particularly the Valdemar ones), and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books. ;) I love Tamora Pierce's Tortall books, though they are easy reading now, but they were my absolute favorite through my childhood, and remain so, because there are such STRONG heroines. I would recommend them to anyone with a 10-14 year old niece, daughter or family friend, though I know many older teens and some adults who read them, most of the older teens started reading when they were younger. They were originally written as one adult book before she rewrote Song of the Lioness Quartet for young adults though. Regardless, its a classic to me. I also recently read and loved "The Birth House", can't remember who its by, and "A Midwife's Tale." I'm reading a book called "The History of Childbirth" right now, and its really interesting, though its really just about the history of childbirth in the oh... middle ages in Europe. At least the parts I've read so far.

Favorite Movies

I haven't watched any movies in quite sometime, but I really like Pan's Labyrinth, Schindler's List, The Sound of Music, and... I don't know what else lol. I'm sure there are more. Wow, cheery lot aren't they?

Favorite Television

Time was, I'd say I didn't watch much TV, but that's not true anymore. I like CSI, CSI:NY, Law and Order:SVU, Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy, and House. Oh and Life on Mars. That's a lot, I realize now. lol. oh well. I watch it all online. I really miss Moonlight from last year, and Buffy from yesteryear.

Favorite Crafts

I sew, knit, and spin. I'm learning to weave, quilt, embroider, and knit better. I also used to design banners and such on photoshop, but I no longer have access photoshop, and GIMP is really different. Maybe I'll get photoshop elements for Christmas or Hanukah...

Likes

Not in any particular order: Cottage/French Country Style, cooking, baking, sewing, innovative takes on classic things, fabric, shiny stuff (other than glitter. Glittery, good. Glitter that gets all over even when glued down... bad.), books, natural fibers (cotton, wool, linen....), retro, historical stuff, lace (except of polyester) Vampires, Pin-ups, calligraphy, old fashioned fancy curvy handwriting, plants, food (not like, cupcakes as much as bread, veggies, fruits, savory dishes, at least in terms of art), domesticity

Dislikes

Synthetics, plastic, intolerance, glitter that gets all over the place, destroying books, zombies, drugs and drug culture, hatred, excessive rick-rack (sometimes it looks good, mostly I'm not a big fan),
