Love your friend's comment on your iPod. If someone looked at my iPod they would just shake their head sadly. All I have on my iPod are audiobooks. Right now the playlist includes Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, Thoreau's Walden, and Kafka's Metamorphosis. Keeps me entertained on the bus, although I tend to talk back to the narrator of Wealth of Nations. At least I get to sit alone when I do that :-)
