Craft Lovers Extraordinaire 2: Mar-Apr'08

...

This swap is dedicated to all of those who love to craft, and to those who are "extraordinaire" swappers.

Let me explain better. We all love to swap good stuff already made, but raise your hand if you were, at least once, somewhat disapointed for not receiving more cute stuff to be creative with. Yeah, I knew you would raise your hand... I did. And I know you are proud to be an extraordinaire swapper and you love to receive accordingly. So, this swap is for you my friend.

///// QUICK but IMPORTANT NOTE /////

I may open some exceptions to the "full 5 rating, more than 20 hearts" rule, but need to have a VERY VERY good explanation and some backup information. In doubt, please contact me first. If you do not contact me, then I'm sorry but I'll have to exclude you. And please read everything twice.

Hi, I have a stupid question...

Is a yarn the "thread" used in knitting?

coolwicca 02/ 5/2008 #

Yes, we call thread the very thin substance used for sewing, and sometimes other fiber crafts, such as crochet. Just curious, but where is the term "thread" used to describe what we call "yarn" and do you call the thicker fibers used for knitting something else?

Latte 02/ 5/2008 #

I see =)

Just now I translated "yarn" into chinese and actually got a different meaning, so I think it's better to ask first =) (I'm more used to chinese language). The minute before I read your reply, I translated from chinese to english and got the word "yarn", so I think it just has few different meanings =)

In mandarin, we classified them all as "thread" but named them as different "thread". For example, we called yarn as "rong xian", wool as "mao xian" (xian = thread)

Thanks for your explanation ^^
