Description:

This is a swap for seeds. The kind of seeds that you plant, not birdseed, lol. You may have purchased seeds to plant in your garden or around your house and found that after planting you still have some leftover. This is a great way to exchange your leftover seeds for other seeds to bring more variety to your garden. You may send flower and/or fruit or vegetable seeds.

Swap Details: You will send 1 partner 4 different types of seeds in 4 baggies along with planting instructions/guides in a bubble envelope to the United States or Canada. This is a Sender's Choice swap, because it is meant to be for your leftover seeds, so you don't have to run out and buy anything if you have already begun planting this year. You must send at least 5-10 seeds of each type in a baggie that is clearly labelled with what type of seed is inside. You must send at least 4 total baggies of 4 different seeds, but may send more if you like (1 type of seed per baggie). You must include the planting instructions - you can photocopy or scan the seed packet and include the copy in your swap envelope or if you do not have access to a copier or scanner, you can type the instructions on your computer and print them out to include. It would also be helpful to include a picture, but if you don't have a color/printer or copier, you could include an internet address to a picture of what the plants look. Do Not hand write the instructions, no offense but some people's handwriting is very hard to read. You must send the seeds and instructions in a bubble envelope - this is to protect the seeds and keep the envelope from getting holes poked in it from the postal machines. You are welcome to re-use an old bubble envie that you already have, just make sure that any old mailing info is covered or obscured with a black marker or the equivalent and of course, make sure it is taped securely.

Reasons You May Not Want to Sign-Up: If you do not already have (or plan to buy) a minimum of 4 different vegetable and/or flower seeds, do not sign up for this swap. If you do not have at least 4 baggies, do not sign up for this swap. If you are not willing to copy/scan/type/print the planting instructions, do not sign up for this swap. If you are not willing to use a bubble envelope for mailing, do not sign up for this swap. If you are not willing to mail to someone in the United States or Canada, do not sign up for this swap. If you cannot send with a postmark of 5/31/12 or sooner, do not sign up for this swap.

Reasons You May Want to Sign-up: You just planted your garden and realized that there is no room for the 225 snow pea seeds. You are planning your flower beds and want more variety than those 4 types you picked up. You are so excited about the Tenderette green bean seeds you ordered, that you just want to share the bean love. You want to have a variety of vegetables grown from seed to add to your dinner table, knowing that they are homegrown and pesticide/preservative free. You want to share how to grow plants from seeds with your children and have different types of plants to show them how different things grow. You just love growing things! You crave variety!

I am putting a minimum rating of 4.9, but if you have any unresolved 1's or 3's you may be booted from this swap as I do not want flakers. I will review profiles on a case-by-case basis before assigning partners. I will allow new swappers with a completed profile, but I will also look for anything suspicious in the profiles and may ban anyone (experienced or new) if anything seems fishy. This swap is open to people in the United States and Canada. Seeds are very light, so shipping (even in the bubble envie) should be relatively inexpensive. The basic requirement is 4 different kinds of seeds, but you are welcome to include more, but please don't expect more in return, because swap partners are assigned randomly. Please note, this swap is for seeds only - bulbs, cuttings, plants are not allowed to be mailed across the US/Canada border.

Swappers: You must rate a 5 if you get 4 different types of seeds in 4 baggies of 5-10 seeds along with the planting instructions in a bubble envelope that is postmarked by 5/31/12 or sooner. You cannot rate a partner down if you do not like the seeds they sent, as long as the seeds are for flowers and/or fruits or vegetables. You may post a comment with the types of seeds you are offering and/or looking for, but it is Sender's Choice, so you cannot rate someone down if they don't have/send the type(s) of seeds you requested. If something is missing or wrong with the swap when you receive it, you should try to contact your partner directly and also let me know. Please ask any questions if I have forgotten anything or if something is unclear to you.

Ooh, I just got in some new seeds and know I'll have some extras of these too - small ornamental gourds! They looked adorable in the catalog, I couldn't resist.

We can send the seed packets, right? Store bought, nothing opened or printed... Right?

Prismcat 05/17/2012 #

Hi emilynhr, sure if you want to, you can just send the whole seed packet - it can be opened or unopened, but if it's opened just put it inside a baggie, so the seeds don't come out during shipping. Please note, you only have to send 5-10 seeds, so if the packet has for example 30 seeds, you don't have to send them all, but if you want to send them all, that's fine too. Remember, you can always photocopy the instructions at home, office, school, or your local library - so that way you can keep the instructions and send a copy to your partner.
