CLICK JOIN SWAP TO PARTICIPATE. If you click "watch swap" you will NOT be participating.

Each person will have 9 partners. You will be sending each partner 12 HST Units that will finish at 2.5" Each (total of 108 HST units mailed out).**

Don't panic! I'm going to show you a super fast way to sew up 108 HST units really accurately.

HST Unit HST Unit Example

Make sure to use one fabric as a "light" value and one fabric with a "dark" value to get the contrast. Blocks will be scrappy!

Seams should be pressed to the dark value.

We will be using the foundation pieced HST method.

Use this printable template for 2.5" HST Units

Keep in mind that the units will be 3" when you cut them apart. That is because they include the .5" seam allowance and will finish in the quilt at 2.5".

Fabric should be new, of good quality (if you can hold your hand behind the fabric and see through it don't use it) and 100% cotton. Color choices are senders preference.

You should have enough HST units in the end to send a scrappy packet to each person with few duplicates in it. Try to send out a variety to each person!

If you have allergies please state this so your partner knows. If I need to pair you with a new partner I will do so. If possible, use fabrics you already have in your stash. This is a scrap busting swap!

How "light" should the light side be? I've got some light grey scraps I could pair with dark blue or black

QuiltedMagnolia 06/12/2012 #

If they are really light grey I think they should work. You want a good contrast between the dark side and the light side. I'm sure some people will use really light pastels as well as white, cream, gray and small light florals or calico prints.

Mine are coming out 3" exactly using that template. Do we need to adjust print settings or anything on the template?

superhubris 07/ 3/2012 #

Well I take that back. They are not quite 3" but very close! Just want to make sure before I do anymore than my little test batch! Thanks.

@superhubris - the blocks come out 3" because that includes your .5 seam allowance. When sewn into a quilt they will finish at 2.5". They are coming out the right size!

superhubris 07/ 9/2012 #

Oh good. I was reading it as the hst by itself should be coming out at 2.5!

sporkfoo 07/21/2012 #

I just finished mine! They should be in the mail sometime early in the week!

QuiltedMagnolia 07/22/2012 #

@sporkfoo yay! Did you take a photo of all of them? :)

QuiltedMagnolia 07/24/2012 #

Just a reminder - please send a variety to each person! It's easier to work with 108 HST units when you don't have a whole bunch of the same kind.

@QuiltedMagnolia - I took pics, but I didn't know if I should post them until they arrived at the destination! I know I want to be surprised - but do you guys want to see them?

In any case, a little bit delayed - but they went out this am. This week we unexpectedly adopted a rescue kitten, so its been kind of crazy around here!

I posted my pics into the flickr group!

My broken finger has healed enough that I got a third of them done today. Thanks for the blue and yellow ones I received!

EllieChaos 07/31/2012 #

PLEASE rate... it's the only way I can know you got them. Thanks!

I'm trying to get in contact with @frivolousfont to see if she plans on sending out her blocks. No response received yet.
