Description:

Odds are a lot of us have a diorama or a doll house or maybe a room box or something. And odds are it could use some…sprucing. Just a little something. A conversation piece. Something to tie in with the over all room. Or just something to brighten it up or tone it all down.

So your mission, should you chose to accept it. Is to make a piece of art worthy of hanging. Collage. Painting. Drawing. Watercolor. Pencils. Ink. Fabric. Oil. Acrylics. Charcoal. Heck, if you can make it within the allotted time. Make a sculpture! Whatever goes for your partner.

Now obviously. We want to do this in they style of your partner’s room box or what not. To do this, your partner should either have a tricked out dollified profile OR she/he should have posted in the Intro section of the Doll House Forums OR she/he should post in the comments section below. ;)

Now of course there are some guidelines to follow:

  • The artwork has to be about 1/6th to 1/12th scale – ABOUT inchie size (1”x1” at the minimum) if a painting/drawing. If your dollhouse is bigger (like for an MSD or such), let your partner KNOW!

  • It can be bigger – HOWEVER! It should be able to fit in the diorama. If it’s too big, it won’t. If you make a huge painting for a MSD and it’s for a 1/12 dollhouse…well. It won’t really work.

  • Art is subjective and while we ask that it fit in with the overall theme of your partner’s diorama (say their doll’s roombox is nautical themed and you make a painting of some coral), it may not be to your taste (maybe your partner dislikes water colors). However. If your partner sent. They took time and care. And it doesn’t violate the guidelines. It still should be a five. Remember. You can always pass it along to someone else! Or trade for it. But try to assume your partner DID try their very best for you!

  • This is a swap open to many crafters and many skill levels.

  • Please. Nothing gross. Ripped up. Wrinkled. Stinky/smelly. Broken. Sticker slapped. Or just plain manky. Make a LITERAL work of art that you spent LOTS of time on. Make something beautiful. Make something worthy of a frame. Something worthy of ten million hearts (even if you don’t like them). Make something YOU are proud of sending. Not something with a sticker slapped on and call it even. Anything sent that is icky, sticky and came out of the kitty bed should be a three.

  • It should be made to hang if it’s a painting. Or place somewhere if a sculpture. It can be framed (which would be nice). But it should have some way to hang it please. An easel to display it. A wire to hang it. Or even a frame to.

  • This is international. So there could be international costs ahead. It’s something that should be pretty flat or small, though. But once partners are set up. I cannot undo the swap. It’s up to you to fulfill it!

  • Have fun!

Right now, I have three Diorama's going on:

Espy's & Noreen's apartment - Espy loves nature and that's what her room is all about. Nature. Woodland animals (inclusing her pet Hedgehog). Bird's nests in her bookshelf. Potted plants. Lots of yellows. Greens. And robbin's egg blues/turquioses. She loves John James Audubon. It's kind of retro/shabby chic.

Noreen's half is a little more ecleptic. Posters of movies. Toy dinosuars. Her tiny nessie. She's more messy than Espy, too. Graffiti is her love. Superheroes (Batman, Capt. America, Spidey, Wonder Woman, and Supes are her faves!).

Della's Victorian Inspired Room - It's actually my fave. I'm still working on it. I LOVE the brown easy chair I found for her with the lion's for arm rests. And her purple/gold sitting chair. And her pretty bed. Steampunk or Victorian are her main themes. Though she has a lot of Impersionist looking artwork there.

My Monster High Diorama - I have the cafe set and I'm working on a room box for it. Lots of Halloweeny but chic items and artwork. Obviously I'd love some Coffin Been related stuff or monstery puns on foods (Coffin Cake anyone? Cafe Muerta?). But maybe some just chic coffee house stuff too. Obviously I'd like it better if it were Monstery related....

Anything in 1/12 scale will work for my crew. I'm working on an areostream trailer, so 1950s or 1960s retro is probably where I'm taking that one. I've also got a treehouse/clubhouse in progress so childish art should work well for that one. And I just got a Victorian house kit which I will probably go shabby chic for that.
