2) Send your partner a skein of yarn that they can use to make something with...maybe if they knit socks, a skein of sock yarn that they can use to make a pair..

3) Include a surprise for your partner! Your choice!

this swap is restricted to US and Canadian (by popular demand!!) participants only. If it goes well, we may do another with an international inclusion.

value on the swap should be 20-30.00 before postage and shipping.

I'm in Canada, so not eligible for this one, but hope it goes well as I'd love to join in next time!

user4688 11/28/2006 #

Like Dashenka, I live in Canada so hoping that your swap goes well and that you will do another one including us from Canada.

Good luck for that one.

knitster 11/28/2006 #

This sounds like fun. Thanks for starting this up!

user2195 11/28/2006 #

Is it ok If I start a swap like this but for Canada as well?? There seems to be a lot of intrest(I would love to participate as well)

user4300 11/28/2006 #

Ok...how 'bout I open this up to Canada as well? I'm going to change it rightnow!

welcome Canadians!!!

user2573 11/28/2006 #

Thanks for opening up the swap to us nice Canadian's :o)

Shelley - in Alberta Canada

dashenka 11/28/2006 #

YAY! I'm in!

I like the odd skein of something unusual to play with!

user4688 11/28/2006 #

Youppi! I'm in !!!Thank you Laura !! You are great!!!!

Gina in Quebec Canada.

user4894 11/29/2006 #

Hey - I love you Canadians! But is there any chance we can have a US only on this one too? I just sent a small box of chocolates to Canada, and it cost me $16.00 economy where the same box sent to California (opposite coast for me) was only $4.00. Big difference!

Or - judging by the comments, are only Canadians interested in this one ;-) ?

user4300 11/29/2006 #

Calmncool- Originally it was US only. we had so much of a request, I opened it up to Canadians. There are plenty of US based people in the swap, and there is a good chance of you getting one of those if you'd like to join us.

user4300 11/29/2006 #

Also, to anyone who has joined and has NOT filled out their profile, PLEASE fill out your profile. New swappers are welcome, but you need to fill out your profile, as I've heard of too many no-sends.

It may get to the point where I will have to exclude anyone with an unfilled profile! TIA!!

user4802 11/30/2006 #

CalmnCool- I agree. I just did my first swap and while it cost me $36.00 to mail my stocking, my partner only had to spend $9 to mail to me. Is there a chance of having a US only one? I really would like to continue to participate. When I originally signed up it was still US only. Thats one of the reasons I signed up for it. I'll still risk it this time. Too bad there is no way to specify which partner you are assigned.

user4300 11/30/2006 #

Again, I will state that the swap is open to Canadians as well. There is no changing it back or organizing something else. I will also state that there are more people in the states. If there is an issue, contact me privately. I consider the issue closed and will not accept any more public commentary on the issue.

user4894 11/30/2006 #

Laura - I don't understand how Jendle's comments warrented such hostility. I certainly hope that you didn't mean to come off that way. Jendle and I both simply wanted to appeal to someone (does not have to be you) to do this swap for US participants as to not have to spend so much money this close to the holidays. There is no offense intended to you or Canadians. I have participated in several swaps, but have yet to have anyone rate me, which is out of my control, or I would organize the swap myself. Rather than trying to dictate the commentary on your swap, you should be happy that your idea is so well received!

user4300 11/30/2006 #

ok.. I agree my comment was strongly worded, but please do not take it as a personal slight toward you or anyone else who does not wish to participate because of mailing costs. I will say that Jendle sent me an email, and that is all I will say. If there anre any more issues, please contact me privately. I will respond and explain, but I felt that in light of the email and then the public comment, a strongly worded statement (that didn't mean to be dictator-ish..sorry 'bout that one..) was the best way to go.

Thanks for understanding

Mimiwonton 12/ 1/2006 #

Sounds like great fun to me! I collect mugs and there are a couple of great one-skein pattern books out there to make use of that odd skein of yarn!! Count me in!

user4802 12/ 2/2006 #

Its ok about the response to my comment. I did not take offense. Due to financial difficulties I did end up having to drop from the swap but not because it was open to Canada. Hopefully another one like this will be available in the Spring. Have fun all.

user2320 12/ 4/2006 #

OK, about the NO THANK YOU list that was requested by our dear coordinator: Please, no orange yarn or herbal tea. Or green tea. Just in case anybody was thinking of sending something to put in the mug. Green yarn is great, as is blue or purple or pink or red. Brights I love, neutrals, not so much. My only allergies are sulfa and Blistik, so anything else is great. Oh yeah, no mohair.

Thanks.

yarnpie 12/ 4/2006 #

NO THANK YOU: Any "fake" yarn - I prefer all natural, I have no food or color alergies :) so go nuts! Thanks!

knitster 12/ 5/2006 #

I like all colors, but especailly pink, black, and white, and I have no allergies, but tend not to like wool because it is so itchy, oh, and I don't like coffee, but love hot tea and cocoa. Thanks for the great swap Laura!

user4688 12/ 5/2006 #

Here me YES AND NO THANK YOU requested by the coordinator: No yellow, pink or purple yarn. Crazy about the color green and dark colors as grey, brown and black. Love everything with pigs on it. I do not love brights colors except for the green. I love coffee, tea and cookies just in case... I love knitting socks (already did over hundreds pairs of those) hats, scarf and mittens.

user5215 12/ 6/2006 #

I am so excited...this is my first swap! In the no thank you category: itchy yarn, orange, yellow, red, or pastel yarns. I love greens, blues, purples, and charcoal-y grays.

dashenka 12/ 6/2006 #

Ok, I'm allergic to wool, alpaca, and mohair, but blends are usually ok, and if not, I tend to make bags etc. from yarns I can't wear and I like to felt wool. Having said that, I do prefer natural fibres, and I really don't have any use for novelty yarns. I like most colours, but not really a fan of green or yellow. As everyone seems to be talking about mug contents, I don't drink tea or coffee. Basically, don't worry too much about me, just something interesting would be lovely!

user5225 12/ 6/2006 #

I am soo geeked. I JUST heard about this website today from the most beautifull store owner i have ever laid my eyes on. So i just had to sign up. I am also very new to knitting and am excited to get to know some of my online peers.

Yes please: Multi-colored yarns that cabling will show up nicely. I just love cables. I love most things goofy and unusual.

No thanks: Itchy yarns.

user5141 12/ 7/2006 #

This sounds like a great swap! Here's my "no thank you" list: itchy yarns, synthetic and novelty yarns, orange, yellow and pastel colored yarn. My favorite colors are blues, purples, greens.

Knittinglizzie 12/10/2006 #

how about a yes please list! sock yarn! i also like natural fibers, or interesting things i probably wouldn't buy myself...

oh man i can't wait to find out who i've got!

Dragonsinger 12/11/2006 #

Looking forward to this...as for "No thank you's" While it does not bother me if the yarn is acrylic or natural, I have difficulty working with finer yarns and usually find worsted weight the best for my fingers :) Also I am totally into dark colors especially purple and black and red.... not a "pastel Person" at all:)

user5270 12/11/2006 #

I found this swap just in time :)

For " No Thank You's": Nothing itchy, No earth tone or neutral colors. No artificial fiber novelty yarns (ie fun fur, eyelash, etc)

For "Yes, Please": I would LOVE some sock yarn with a little stretch. Any natural fiber or blend is great. I love coffee and tea.

user1592 12/12/2006 #

"No thank you's" Nothing itchy, acrylic or cotton.

"Yes's" Anything but the above. Any color, any gauge as long as it's wool.

user4696 12/12/2006 #

Just a word for US people with Canadian swaps: If you keep your package under 4#, it will usually be no more expensive than shipping from one end of the US to the other. Just use airmail letter-post (only good under 4#)instead of airmail parcel-post, and it won't be too bad. (I ship to Canada a lot & for 2-3# packages, it's often cheaper than distant US addresses.) If you plan ahead and think light, you won't break the bank.

Yes, please: animal fibers except mohair, soft, dk or thicker, dark or bright colors, dark browns, blacks, dark grays.

No, thank you: mohair (10% or less in a blend is fine; more makes me claw my skin off), all synthetic (synthetic-animal blends are dandy, though), scratchy, novelty, lace weight, pastel colors or pale neutrals.

Mimiwonton 12/12/2006 #

For the No Thank You list. Don't particularly enjoy acrylics. Prefer natural fibers and I am really into socks right now. I love coffee of any kind and am a diet-coke-aholic! I do some scrapbooking, but my passion is knitting! I like pretty much any color of yarn..solid, varigated..doesn't matter to me, but I am just burned out on the novelty stuff right now. Please no eyelash or fun-fur type stuff.

user2626 12/12/2006 #

Just putting in my two cents to help my partner out. I am a huge sock knitter, it is my latest obsession. I try to steer clear of acrylics, some chemical they use in the process tends to give me hives. I adore all natural fibers. If you want to include treats, please do not send anything candyish. I have to watch my sugar intake, otherwise I get sick. Hope I did not put too many restrictions on you, but just wanted you to have a feel for my likes/dislike.

Cassandra 12/12/2006 #

for my "no thanks" list: I prefer not to get acrylic, eyelash, furry yarns, mohair.

"Yes please" list: I would love something in a soft wool, or some nice sock yarn as I am into sock knitting right now. The hand dyed socks yarns that are out there are just yummy. I prefer hot cocoa, and like milk chocolate and sweets. My favorite colors are those from the red family but for sock yarn it could be anything as long as it's colorful.

user2590 12/12/2006 #

i am glad to be in this swap, as for yarn i like wool or partly wool and any color but black, brown or beige. my favorite is purple or pink , but i am not fussy

knitster 12/15/2006 #

dear coordinator Laura...we have all stated our likes and dislikes, but I haven't seen any from you yet...any favorite colors? Do you perfer sock yarn, wool for felting, or anything else????

user2590 12/16/2006 #

I sent my package off today dec.11 to mary

user4300 12/17/2006 #

Sorry...been out of commission with an ankle injury and a recovering toddler!

I'm a sock geek, and I've got WICKED sensitive skin, so I like things that are super squishy or I can make socks with...or both. Eyelash and fun fur make me break out (it's weird...I like working with them, but my hands and skin can't take it. I get all sorts of blotchy!) I'm open to either natural or acrylic, as long as it's soft and squishy!

the one color that I'm totally averse to is pink. It can be any color besides PINK. I love blues, greens, purples, anything, except pink. Haven't been able to stomach it since I wore it in a school uniform for 2 years.

Oh, and I love hot chocolate and tea. coffee is cool too, as long as it's got some sort of flavor to it!

Hope that helps!

knitster 12/18/2006 #

thanks Laura, that helps alot...It will probably be around the 26th before I can get your package out...got to wait until that paycheck gets in..:)

user2590 01/13/2007 #

I have not received anything as yet for the mug and yarn swap. idid send mine and she recevied it ruby

user2590 01/17/2007 #

I will not be joining any more swaps, i have been burnt twice now. I only received 2 of the 3 card swaps and no coffee mug swap. I think if people cant keep up to there end of the bargain they should nbot join ruby

Neenbug 01/21/2007 #

rubes, was your swap partner's name "nothing"? If so that is what you will get. She has burned both of my daughters. She goes by the name Mermaid, muse and nothing. She sneeks into swaps at the last minute. Boy if I ever get her as a partner she will be sorry. On the flee market swap she was caught by my daughter who was burned before. She contacted the head of the swap and got the partners who she would send to and NOTHING will be given to her! If you look on the notes for that swap it gives her real name and email. I have also posted that it is considered theft in my book and if you did this in a store you would go to jail. We need the administrators of swap bot to ban this person or all get together and put a stop to her. My daughter wants to quit because of her. I say let's stop her!!!!!

user4696 01/25/2007 #

I just got a 1 rating from for not sent from Shayla, my swap partner, AND I SENT HER A PACKAGE! I just checked the delivery confirmation tracking, and it WAS DELIVERED on December 28.

user4696 01/26/2007 #

Oh, good! She said she mixed it up with another swap and revised my rating. I feel much better!
