Description:

SInce gas prices are out of this world, food prices are rising and work is slowing down, many of us are cutting out vacation plans.

Why not take a "vacation" in your home town? Most everywhere I've been has some claim to fame that would be interesting to an out of town visitor.

For this swap you will plan a 3-5 day "vacation" in your area. You must not plan to travel further than one tank of gas can take you (there and back!).

Set your itinerary, then take the vacation yourself, documenting your journey with photos (digital is fine).

Keep a journal or log of your stops, commenting on the places you've been. You can make your trip as jam-packed or low key as you like. Think about where you'd take someone who came to your town to visit.

For example I might plan to hang out by the pool most of the day, then go to a baseball game that night. Stay within your personal budget. Try to find fun things to do that aren't too expensive.

If possible, please include "freebie" brochures and flyers or maps of the places you go.

Finally, pick up some small touristy souvenir for your partner.

If you're into scrapbooking, feel free to create one for your partner, but you don't need to. You must send a photo cd (or prints if you prefer) with at least 10 photos of your "vacation," along with some kind of commentary about the trip, travel brochures and maps, and a small tourist item.

You have a month to complete this, so you don't need to take 3-5 actual days in a row. It could be done on weekends or when you have the time if you can't really take the consecutive days to do it. I plan to take a mini-vacation at least once a week to complete mine!

You won't need to know your partner to do this one, so you can start right away.

Let's have fun re-discovering our own backyards and share that with each other!

You must have at least a 4.5 to participate. This is my first swap to host, so please ask if you have questions or need clarification!

I'm going to a camp towards the end of the "preperation" time. Can I include bits from this or not? (I am going in a minibus with our youth group)

I think that sounds fine. Just be sure you get your stuff out on time!

I'll assign partners tomorrow whether I hear from admin or not. I put in a query to them about a husband/wife team who don't want to be assigned each other. Wouldn't be a very exciting exchange in this case!

You don't need to know partners, though, to start your "trip," so feel free to get started!

Thanks for the extra effort carol. Cheekywabbit56 and I appreciate it. Thanks also to all the participants for their patience and understanding in this matter.
